  • In this paper, we propose sliding mode congestion controller for differentiated-services network. Two important issue in differentiated-services architecture are bandwidth guarantee and fair sharing of unsubscribed bandwidth among TCP flows with and without bandwidth reservation. We use tight upper and lower bounds for various settings of differentiated-services parameters using the loss-bounded model. The Sliding mode congestion controller scheme is designed using nonlinear control theory based on a nonlinear model of the network that is generated using fluid flow consideration. The methodology used is general and independent of technology, as for example TCP/IP or ATM. The sliding mode congestion controller methodology has been applied to an TCP network. We use NS-2 simulation to demonstrate that the proposed control methodology achieves the desired behavior of the network, and possesses important attributes. as e.g, stable and robust behavior, high utilization with bounded delay and loss, together with good steady-state and transient behavior.

  • This thesis is to investigate the sliding behavior of cantilever retaining wall by using the commercially available program of FLAC to simulate its behavior numerically. Cantilever retaining walls with flat base, sloped base and base with shear key, uniform surcharges being applied on the surface of backfill, were investigated to figure out appropriate location of shear key beneath the base of wall and, thus, its applicability to field condition was assessed by comparing the analyzed results to each other. On the other hand, previously performed centrifuge model test results (Eum, 1996) were analyzed numerically with FLAC to compare test results with respect to characteristics of load-settlement of surcharges and load-lateral movement of wall. Based on the failure mechanism observed during centrifuge tests, limit equilibrium method of finding the ultimate load inducing the sliding failure of wall was used to compare with values of the ultimate load obtained from conventional method of limit equilibrium method. Therefore, appropriate location of shear key was determined to mobilize the maximum resistance against sliding failure of wall.

  • This study aims at investigating the effect of heat treatment conditions on the dry sliding wear behavior of thermally sprayed Ni-based self-flux alloy coatings. Ni-based self-flux alloy powders were sprayed onto a carbon steel substrate and then heat-treated at 700, 800, 900 and $1000^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes in a vacuum furnace. Dry sliding wear tests were performed using sliding speed of 0.4 m/s and applied load of 6 N. AISI 52100 ball(diameter 8 mm) was used as counterparts. Microstructure and wear behavior of both as-sprayed and heat-treated Ni-based self-flux alloy coatings were studied using a scanning electron microscope(SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX), electron probe micro-analysis(EPMA) and X-ray diffraction(XRD). It was revealed that microstructure and wear behavior of thermally sprayed Ni-based self-flux alloy coatings were much influenced by heat treatment conditions.

  • In this paper, adaprive control and sliding mode control are combined to implement the proposed adaptive sliding mode control(ASMC) algorithm which is new approach to the control of industrial robot manipulator with external disturbances and parameter uncertainties. Adaptive control algorithm is designed by using the principle of the model reference adaptive control method based upon the hyperstability theory. The contribution of this method is that the parameters of the sliding surface are replaced by time varying parameters whose are calculated by an adaptation algorithm, which forces the errors to follow the behavior of a reference error model. Simulation results show that the proposed method not only improves the performance of the system but also reduces the chattering problem of sliding mode control. Consequently, it is expected that the new adaptive sliding mode control algorithm will be suited for various practical applications.

  • Middle size of membrane retractable roof is under 25m span which consists of various moving systems. Sliding carriage is the system that leads the membrane to parking place, transferring the load from the membrane to structural cable. When membrane moves roof, thus, structural behavior of sliding carriage, which may contain various shapes with friction coefficients, should be investigated by vertical load as well as horizontal load. Nummerical simulation of sliding carriage prototypes, in this research, were performed by incrementation of vertical load and horizontal load as well. Consequently, this paper evaluated proper shapes of inner holder of Sliding carriage and evaluated the effective contact area of inner hold.

  • Dry sliding wear behavior of electro-pressure sintered Fe-Ni and Co-Fe-Ni compacts was investigated. Pin-on-disk wear tests were performed on the sintered Fe-Ni, Co-Fe-Ni disk specimens against alumina $(Al_2O_3)$ and silica $(SiO_2)$ ball counterparts at various loads ranging from 3N to 12N. A constant sliding speed of 0.1m/sec was employed. Wear rate was calculated by dividing the weight loss measured after the test by specific gravity and sliding distance. Worn surfaces and cross sections of them were examined by a scanning electron microscopy, and wear mechanism of the compacts was investigated. Wear characteristics of the compacts were discussed as a function of composition of the compacts. Relationship between the wear rate and mechancial properties of the compact was explored, and effects of the oxide layer that was formed on wearing surface of the compacts on the wear were also studied.

  • Wear behaviors of gas atomized and extruded Al-Si alloys were investigated using the dry sliding wear apparatus. The wear tests were conducted on Al-Si alloy discs against cast iron pins and vice versa at constant load of 10N with different sliding speed of 0.1, 0.3, 0.5m/s. In the case of Al-Si alloy discs slid against the cast iron pins, the wear rate slightly increased with increasing the sliding speed due to the abrasive wear occurred between Al-Si alloy discs and cast iron pins. Conversely, in the case of cast iron discs against Al-Si alloy pins, the wear rate decreased with increasing the sliding speed up to 0.3m/s. However, the wear rate increased with increasing the sliding speed from 0.3m/s to 0.5m/s. It could be due to adhesive wear behavior and abrasive wear behavior_between cast iron discs and Al-Si alloy pins.

  • The wear behavior of two types of $Si_3N_4$ exposed to high and low humidity was examined at various sliding speeds, using bearing steel as disk material under pin-on-disk type sliding conditions. Higher wear rates were obtained at a high humidity than at a low humidity. As the sliding speed was increased, the wear rates were decreased and the effect of humidity on the wear rates of $Si_3N_4$ was reduced. The result that the $Si_3N_4$ pin showed higher wear rate under the high humidity condition was explained by the decrease in microhardness of $Si_3N_4$ due to the chemisorbed moisture on the pin and plowing action by the hard particles of $Fe_2O_3$ from the disk. An increase in the sliding speed is supposed to reduce the effect of humidity on the wear rate of $Si_3N_4$ by raising the average temperature of the disk surface and the local temperature at pin-disk contact point.
