This study compared performances of PID (Proportional Integral Derivative), SMC (Sliding Mode Control), and MPC (Model Predictive Control) strategies applied to a 2DOF (Degree Of Freedom) drone tracking robot. The developed 2DOF robot utilized a depth camera with an IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), laser pointers, and servo motors to rapidly detect and track objects. Image processing was conducted using the YOLO deep learning model. Through this setup, controllers were attached to the robot to track random drone movements, comparing performances in terms of accuracy and energy consumption. This study revealed that while SMC demonstrated precise tracking without deviating from the path, both PID and MPC controllers showed deviations. Performance-wise, SMC is superior. However, considering economic aspects, PID is more advantageous due to its lower power consumption and relatively minor tracking errors.

This work is concerned with the estimation of output derivatives and their use for the design of robust controller for linear systems with systems uncertainties due to modeling errors and disturbance. It is assumed that a nominal transfer function model and Quantitative bounds for system uncertainties are known. The developed control schemes are shown to achieve regulation of the system output and ensures boundedness of the system states without imposing any structural conditions on system uncertainties and disturbances. Output derivative estimation is first conducted trough restructuring of the plant in a specific parameterization. They are utilized for constructing robust nonlinear high-gain feedback controller of a SMC(Sliding Mode Controller) Type. The performances of the developed controller are evaluated and shown to be effective and useful through simulation study.

One of the methods to simplify the design process for a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) is to reduce the number of variables representing the rule antecedent. This in turn decreases the number of control rules, membership functions, and scaling factors. For this purpose, we designed a single-input FLC that uses a sole fuzzy input variable. However, it is still deficient in the capability of adapting some varying operating conditions although it provides a simple method for the design of FLC's. We here design two simple-structured adaptive fuzzy logic controllers (SAFLC's) using the concept of the single-input FLC. Linguistic fuzzy control rules are directly incorporated into the controller by a fuzzy basis function. Thus some parameters of the membership functions characterizing the linguistic terms of the fuzzy control rules can be adjusted by an adaptive law. In our controllers, center values of fuzzy sets are directly adjusted by an adaptive law. Two SAFLC's are designed. One of them uses a Hurwitz error dynamics and the other a switching function of the sliding mode control (SMC). We also prove that 1) their closed-loop systems are globally stable in the sense that all signals involved are bounded and 2) their tracking errors converge to zero asymptotically. We perform computer simulations using a nonlinear plant.
This article explores the speed regulation problem of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) systems subjected to unknown time-varying disturbances. A continuous sliding mode control (CSMC) technique is introduced for the speed loop to enhance the robustness of PMSM systems and eliminate the chattering phenomenon caused by high-frequency switch function in the conventional control law. However, the high control gain of the CSMC law in the presence of strong disturbances leads to large steady-state speed fluctuations for PMSM systems. In many application fields, PMSM systems are affected by time-varying disturbances instead of constant disturbances. For example, electric bicycles are usually affected by changing environmental disturbances, including wind speeds, road conditions, etc. These disturbances may be in the form of constant, ramp, and parabolic disturbances. Hence, a generalized proportional integral (GPI) observer is employed to estimate these types of disturbances. Then, the disturbance estimation method and the aforementioned CSMC method are combined to establish a composite sliding mode control method called the CSMC+GPI method for the speed loop of PMSM systems. Contrary to the conventional sliding mode control technique, the proposed method completely eliminates the chattering phenomenon caused by the switching function in the conventional control law. Moreover, a small control gain for the CSMC+GPI method is chosen by feed-forwarding estimated values to the speed controller. Hence, the steady-state speed fluctuations are small. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is verified by simulation and experimental result.

The robot control with safety consideration is required since robots and human work together in the same space more frequently in these days. For safety, robots must have compliance to human force and robust tracking performance with high impednace for the nonhuman disturbances. The novel idea is proposed to achieve the compliance and high impedance with one controller structure. For the compliance, the ISMC(Integral Sliding Mode Control) and HDOB(Human Disturbance Observer) The human force is identified by using the human band pass filter and its output is sent to the sliding surface. The sliding mode dynamic is affected by human disturbance and the compliance for human is achieved. The disturbances besides human frequencies are decoupled by the ISMC and the robust tracking is achieved. The additional LDOB(Low Frequency Disturbance Observer) decreases the maxim nonlinear gain and leads low chattering. The introduction of human disturbance into the sliding mode dynamic is the main novel idea of this paper.

This paper proposes a novel linearization method for Takagi.sugeno (TS) fuzzy model. A T-S fuzzy controller consists of linear controllers based on local linear models and the local linear controllers cannot be designed independently because of overall stability conditions which are usually conservative. To use linear control theories easily for T-S fuzzy system, the linearization of T-S fuzzy model is required. However, The linearization of T-S fuzzy model is difficult to be achieved by using existing linearization methods because fuzzy rules and membership functions are included in T-S fuzzy models. So, a new linearization method is proposed for the T-S fuzzy system based on the idea of T-S fuzzy state transformation. For the T-S fuzzy system linearized with uncertainties, a robust optimal controller with the robustness of sliding model control(SMC) is designed.

This paper presents the design of hardware platform, which is a test bed for the navigation system and hovering type AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) under the OCP (Open Control Platform). The developed AUV test bed consists of two hulls, four thrusters, and the navigation system which uses a SBC2440II with IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit). And the SMC (Sliding Mode Control) is chosen for the diving and steering control of the AUV. This paper uses ACE/TAO RTEC (Real-Time Event Channel) as a middleware platform in order to control and communicate in the developed AUV test bed. In this paper, two computers are used and each of them is dedicated for the specific purpose, the first computer is used as the SMC module and the middleware platform for the ACE/TAO RTEC and the second computer is used for the sensor controller. We analyze the performance of the AUV test bed under the OCP.
Heave compensation is a vital part of various marine and offshore operations. It is used in various applications, including the transfer of cargo between two vessels in the open ocean, installation of topsides of an offshore structure, offshore drilling and for surveillance, reconnaissance and monitoring. These applications typically involve a load suspended from a hydraulically powered winch that is connected to a vessel that is undergoing dynamic motion in the ocean environment. The goal in these applications is to design a winch controller to keep the load at a regulated height by rejecting the net heave motion of the winch arising from ship motions at sea. In this study, we analyze and compare the performance of various control algorithms in stabilizing a suspended load while the vessel is subjected to changing sea conditions. The KCS container ship is chosen as the vessel undergoing dynamic motion in the ocean. The negative of the net heave motion at the winch is provided as a reference signal to track. Various control strategies like Proportional-Derivative (PD) Control, Model Predictive Control (MPC), Linear Quadratic Integral Control (LQI), and Sliding Mode Control (SMC) are implemented and tuned for effective heave compensation. The performance of the controllers is compared with respect to heave compensation, disturbance rejection and noise attenuation.
