  • As the usage of computer systems is increasing in our lives, the reliability and safely of these systems need to be thoroughly checked through the verification techniques. As a basic formalism for several modeling methods, the finite state machine (FSM) is widely used in specification and verification of system models. And there is a technique for ing internal events of FSM in order to effectively analyze the system. However, this technique does not handle the state explosion problem since it can be applied after completely generating all the state space of the system. In this research, we provide a new approach for efficiently representing concurrent properties of FSM, the slice model and provide an efficient transition reduction method based on the slice model. Our approach is effective in time and space perspective since it is peformed by partially generating the needed system states while the existing abstraction technique can be applied to all the system states.

  • We develop the new data s]ice representation, called the data value flow graph(VFG), for modeling the information flow oil data slices. Then we define a slice complexity measure by using the existing flow complexity measure in order to measure the complexity of the information flow on VFG. We show relation of the slice complexity on a slice with the slice complexity on a procedure. We also demonstrate the measurement scale factors through a set of atomic modifications and a concatenation operator on VFG.

  • For the purpose of explaining the dewatering phenomena of potato slice soaked in concentrated solution three models were proposed. Earlier model cannot explain the dewatering phenomena of potato slice in concentrated solution because of limiting its condition which is necessary to build a model. Therefore other three models were suggested and a model based on Fick\`s second law of mass transport at infinite plate conditions and numerical analysis was test model for explaining dewatering phenomena of potato soaked in concentrated solution. Apparent diffusion coefficient of water could be readily estimated from model III, and it could explain adequately the difference of the dewatering phenomena of various soaking conditions.

  • Hippocampal slice models can be a powerful tool to study the mechanism of partial epilepsy. Despite the loss of connection with the rest of the brain, in vitro hippocampal slice preparations allow detailed physiological and pharmacological studies, which would be impossible, in vivo. There are several methods to induce electrographic seizures on hippocampal slice models. Those are electrical pulse train stimulation, 0 $Mg^{2+}$ artificial cerebrational fluid and high concentration of extracelluar $K^+$ on bath. Among them, the electrically triggered seizure may mimic the physiological communication between neuronal populations without any deterioration of normal physiologic and chemical status of the hippocampal slice models. Presumably, such communication from hyperexcitable areas to other neuronal populations is involved in the development of epilepsy. Electrographic seizures in hippocampal slice models occur in the network of neurons that are involved in epileptic seizures in the hippocampus in vivo. Because these models have many advantages and are very valuable to research of epileptogenesis on partial epilepsy, I would like to introduce the electrophysiological methods to induce electrographic seizure or epilepsy on hippocampal slice models briefly in this paper.

  • Purpose : This study was to evaluate the influence of slice thickness of computed tomography (CT) and rapid protyping (RP) type on the accuracy of 3-dimensional medical model. Materials and Methods: Transaxial CT data of human dry skull were taken from multi-detector spiral CT. Slice thickness were 1, 2, 3 and 4 mm respectively. Three-dimensional image model reconstruction using 3-D visualization medical software (V-works /sup TM/ 3.0) and RP model fabrications were followed. 2-RP models were 3D printing (Z402, Z Corp., Burlington, USA) and Stereolithographic Apparatus model. Linear measurements of anatomical landmarks on dry skull, 3-D image model, and 2-RP models were done and compared according to slice thickness and RP model type. Results: There were relative error percentage in absolute value of 0.97, 1.98,3.83 between linear measurements of dry skull and image models of 1, 2, 3 mm slice thickness respectively. There was relative error percentage in absolute value of 0.79 between linear measurements of dry skull and SLA model. There was relative error difference in absolute value of 2.52 between linear measurements of dry skull and 3D printing model. Conclusion: These results indicated that 3-dimensional image model of thin slice thickness and stereolithographic RP model showed relative high accuracy.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop a method of slope stability analysis, using slice method The direction of interstice forces was assumed in two ways: 1) inclined interslice force parallel to the base of slice, 2) normal interslice force normal to the boundary surface of slice being used in the existing slice method. The deviation from the value of interstice force caused by assumption was removed in the Processing of analysis, and the factor of safety was obtained more accurately by deciding the location of interstice force acting on each slice. More rational validity of the method with inclined interslice force was proved by performing slope stability analyses with both methods. The factor of safety obtained by the proposed method was compared with that by the existing methods, and the influence of seismic coefficient was also analyzed.

  • We developed a SIFC(Slice-based Information Flow Graph) For modeling the information flow on program on the basis of the information flow of a data tokens on program slices. Then we defined a SCM(Slice-based Complexity Measure) for measuring the program complexity by measuring the complexity of information flow on SIFG, We showed that, according to Zuse's approach, it assumed ordinal scale based on atomic modifications on SIFG and that it was additive to binary operation MBSEQ and that it was not additive to binary operation MBALT but satisfied Weyuker's 9th axiom. Also based on comparison with the existing measures, we showed that SCM could measure not only the control and data flow in program but also the physical size of program.
