In this study, an equivalent boundary conditions (BCs) determination method is developed numerically for a panel reinforced concrete (RC) slab to realistically analyze the deformation and fatigue behaviors of a bridge RC slab. For this purpose, a finite element analysis of a bridge RC slab is carried out beforehand to calculate the stiffness of the bridge RC slab, and then the equivalent BCs for the panel RC slab are determined to achieve the same stiffness at the BCs to the obtained stiffness of the bridge RC slab at the corresponding locations of the bridge RC slab. Moreover, for the simulation of fatigue behaviors, fatigue analysis of the panel RC slab is carried out employing a finite element method based on a numerical model that considers the bridging stress degradation. Both the determined equivalent BCs and the BCs that have been typically applied in past studies are employed. The analysis results confirm that, in contrast to the panel RC slab with typically used BCs, the panel RC slab with equivalent BCs simulate the same bending moment distribution and deformation behaviors of the bridge RC slab. Furthermore, the equivalent BCs reproduce the extensive grid crack pattern in the panel RC slab, which is alike the pattern normally witnessed in a bridge RC slab. Conclusively, the panel RC slab with equivalent BCs behaves identical to the bridge RC slab, and, as a result, it shows more realistic fatigue behaviors observed in the bridge RC slab.
This paper highlights a study undertaken on the free vibration of a precast steel-concrete composite slab panel for track support. The steel-concrete composite slab track is an evolvement from the slab track, a form of ballastless track which is becoming increasingly attractive to asset owners as they seek to reduce lifecycle costs and deal with increasing rail traffic speeds. The slender nature of the slab panel due to its reduced depth of construction makes it susceptible to vibration problems. The aim of the study is driven by the need to address the limited research available to date on the dynamic behaviour of steel-concrete composite slab panels for track support. Free vibration analysis of the track slab has been carried out using ABAQUS. Both eigenfrequencies and eigenmodes have been extracted using the Lanczos method. The fundamental natural frequencies of the slab panel have been identified together with corresponding mode shapes. To investigate the sensitivity of the natural frequencies and mode shapes, parametric studies have been established, considering concrete strength and mass and steel's modulus of elasticity. This study is the world first to observe crossover phenomena that result in the inversion of the natural orders without interaction. It also reveals that replacement of the steel with aluminium or carbon fibre sheeting can only marginally reduce the natural frequencies of the slab panel.

A model for the nonlinear flexural analysis of extruded Engineered Cementitious Composite (ECC) panel reinforced concrete (RC) composite slab has been newly presented. From direct tensile test, ECC panel has been modeled to have the high-ductile tensile behavior after cracking. The developed model was compared with bending test results of two specimens, a conventional RC slab and a ECC panel RC composite slab. The predicted results were well patched with the experimental results, and the ECC panel RC composite slab system had advantages in crack control and improving flexural load-carrying capacity and deformation-capacity.

In the longway tunnel and underground traffic road, the structure of transverse ventilation system is constructed by the airpit slab. In this study, the full scale specimens of the PSC airpit slab that attached fire resistance panel are performed the static and dynamic loading tests for evaluation of bending capacity. The first of all, it confirmed the evaluations about the fundamental efficiency of the fire resistance panel and PSC slab by the 3-point bending test and pull-off test. The tests are performed for evaluation of the bending resistance under ultimate static load and the bonded capacity under dynamic fatigue load. A fatigue test is performed for an investigation of the effect on wind pressure that is developed by transit of traffic. The damage or debonding on surface between fire resistance panel and PSC slab was not developed in dynamic fatigue load test, also the behavior of the specimens is very stable and the debonding of the fire resistance panel attached at the bottom surface of PSC slab was not developed in static load test, too. Therefore, the crack or debonding of the fire resistance panel will be not developed by external loads during the construction or completion of the precast fire resistance system.

Recently, the use of transfer slab system has increased greatly. However, several construction problems are being encountered owing to its excessive thickness. Therefore, in this study, a transfer slab system that uses a reverse drop panel, which can utilize the facility space of the pit floor by reducing the transfer slab thickness, was considered. To investigate the shear behavior of transfer slab system that uses the reverse drop panel, the two-way shear strength of transfer slab-column connection with the reverse drop panel was analyzed using nonlinear FE analysis. In addition, the two-way shear strength evaluations of transfer slab with the reverse drop panel conducted using the existing evaluation methods were verified by comparing the strengths predicted by those methods with the results of nonlinear FE analysis.
This paper presents a reinforced concrete composite deck slab system newly developed using a high ductile ECC extrusion panel. In the construction practice, the cracking of reinforced concrete slab often becomes a problem especially in parking garages, underground structures, and buildings. The ECC panel manufactured by extrusion process as a precast product has not only a high-quality in control of cracking but also a merit in applying the construction of concrete slab because the use of ECC panel can realize a formless or half-precast construction with cast-in-place concrete. In the newly developed deck slab system, the ECC extrusion panel is located in the bottom of slab with the thickness of 10 mm, reinforcements are assembled and located on the ECC panel, and finally the topping concrete is placed in the field. In order to evaluate the newly developed slab system, experimental works by four point bending test are conducted to compare with the conventional reinforced concrete slab system. From experiment, the developed deck slab system using a ECC panel gives many improved performances both in control of bending cracking and in load-carrying capacities of slabs.

The numerical analysis was conducted to evaluate the behavior of slab-column connection subjected to blast loads using LS-DYNA. The typical form of slab-interior column connection for analysis was considered as a reference specimen and the drop panel slab-interior column was designed to verify the effects of drop panel. The slab-column connections, which were composed of interior, edge and corner column, were additionally analyzed to compare their confinement effects of specimens. Analysis results were contained the failure shape of connection, behavior of member and so on. From the results, the blast-resistant capacities of slab-column connection would be enhanced by reinforcing the drop panel. In addition, the performance of connections could be improved, when the confinement effects were enhanced.

Slab panels are very important to develop asphalt concrete (AC) track for minimizing the roadbed stress due to the train load and reducing the plastic deformation of infrared-sensitive AC. In this study, the slab panel for AC track was developed through the shape design and the indoor performance test and its structural integrity has been investigated through the finite element analysis under the flexural tensile stress and the design moment according to various static load combination by KRL-2012 standard train load model and KR-C code. In order to verify the suitability of the slab panel for AC track, static bending strength test and dynamic bending strength test were performed according to EN 13230-2. Results show that the slab panel for AC track satisfies all the performance standards required by European standards such as crack loads and crack extension.
Precast slab track system(PSTS) is a concrete track laying system where the slab panels are pre-manufactured in factories and assembled and installed on-site. PSTS has been developed for the past 30 years in countries where railway technologies are advanced such as Japan and Germany to improve the various drawbacks of the in-situ concrete slab track. However, the usefulness of PSTS is being continuously approved by many other countries such as China, Taiwan, Austria, Italy, Spain, etc,. Lately, not only Japan and Germany, but also Austria, Italy and China have developed their own PSTS by collaboration between their Governments and private enterprises and are now attempting to expand their businesse soverseas. In accordance to such movement, in 2006, the Korean Railroad Research Institution and Sampyo E&C have developed a Korean PSTS by joint research. PSTS consists of concrete panel, under pouring layer and concrete base layer. Amongst these components, the panel is the main component of PSTS which supports the train load and has a great effect on the track quality, workability and economics. Therefore, a study is to be conducted to select the optimum size for the Panel of the precast slab track system panel by analyzing the various standards & forms, interpretation of finite elements of the selected model and economical analysis.
