  • GRB100205A is a Gamma Ray Burst (GRB) which is suspected to be at redshift z=11-13 due to its very red H-K color($(H-K)_{vega}=2.1{\pm}0.5$). We observed a field centered at GRB100205A with Wide Field Camera (WFCAM) at United Kingdom Infrared Telescope (UKIRT) in Hawaii, in order to search a quasar that could be located around the GRB. The images were obtained in J, H, and K filters covering a square area of $0.78deg^2$. Our J-, H-, and K-band data reach the depths of 22.5, 22.1, and 21.0 mag (Vega) at $5{\sigma}$, respectively. Also using z-band image observed by CFHT, we find 8 candidates that have colors consistent with a quasar at z=11-13(non-detection in z-, J-band and $(H-K)_{vega}$ > 1.6). However, the shallow depths of J-, H-band are not enough to verify their true nature. Instead, we identify many red objects to be old or dusty galaxies at $z{\geq}3$. The number density of such objects appears about twice or more than that of the field of Cosmological Evolution Survey (COSMOS) and Ultra Deep Survey (UDS) of UKIRT Infrared deep sky survey (UKIDSS). On scales between 0.18' and 15' the correlation function is well described by a power law with an exponent of ${\approx}-0.9$ and this implies that those objects are like galaxies. It is interesting that many red galaxies exist in the region where the GRB was detected.

  • Recent studies find that some early-type galaxies host Type II or Ibc supernovae (SNe II, Ibc). This may imply recent star formation activities in these SNe host galaxies, but a massive star origin of the SNe Ib so far observed in early-type galaxies has been questioned because of their intrinsic faintness and unusually strong Ca lines shown in the nebular phase. To address the issue, we investigate the properties of early-type SNe host galaxies using the data with Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) ultraviolet photometry and the Sloan Digital Sky Survey optical data. Our sample includes eight SNe II and one peculiar SN Ib (SN 2000ds) host galaxies as well as 32 SN Ia host galaxies. The host galaxy of SN 2005cz, another peculiar SN Ib, is also analyzed using the GALEX data and the NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database optical data. We find that the NUV?optical colors of SN II/Ib host galaxies are systematically bluer than those of SN Ia host galaxies, and some SN II/Ib host galaxies with NUV - r colors markedly bluer than the others exhibit strong radio emission. We perform a stellar population synthesis analysis and find a clear signature of recent star formation activities in most of the SN II/Ib host galaxies. Our results generally support the association of the SNe II/Ib hosted in early-type galaxies with core collapse of massive stars. We briefly discuss implications for the progenitors of the peculiar SNe Ib 2000ds and 2005cz.

  • Snow cover is one of the important parameters since it determines surface energy balance and its variation. To classify snow and cloud from satellite data is very important process when inferring land surface information. Generally, misclassified cloud and snow pixel can lead directly to error factor for retrieval of surface products from satellite data. Therefore, in this study, we perform algorithm for detecting snow cover area with remote sensing data. We just utilize visible reflectance, and infrared channels rather than using NDSI (Normalized Difference Snow Index) which is one of optimized methods to detect snow cover. Because COMS MI (Meteorological Imager) channels doesn't include near infra-red, which is used to produce NDSI. Detecting snow cover with visible channel is well performed over clear sky area, but it is difficult to discriminate snow cover from mixed cloudy pixels. To improve those detecting abilities, brightness temperature difference (BTD) between 11 and 3.7 is used for snow detection. BTD method shows improved results than using only visible channel.

  • This study examines the relationship between three-dimensional urban built environment and urban surface temperature using LANDSAT 8 satellite image data in Seoul city. The image was divided into 600m×600m grid units as an unit of analysis. Due to the high level of spatial dependency in surface temperature, this study uses spatial statistics to take into account spatial auto-correlation. The spatial error model shows the best goodness of fit. The analysis results show that the three-dimensional built environment and transport environment as well as natural environment have statistically significant associations with surface temperature. First, natural environment variables such as green space, streams and river, and average elevation show statistically significant negative association with surface temperature. Second, the building area shows a positive association with surface temperature. In addition, while sky view factor (SVF) has a positive association with surface temperature, surface roughness (SR) shows a negative association with it. Third, transportation related variables such as road density, railway density, and traffic volume show positive associations with surface temperature. Moreover, this study finds that SVF and SR have different effects on surface temperature in regard to the levels of total floor areas in built environment. The results indicate that interactions between floor area ratio (FAR) and three-dimensional built environmental variables such as SVF and SR should be considered to reduce urban surface temperature.

  • In this study, the use of '心' letter used in classic Chinese book of 『Hwangjenaegyeog』 and its meaning was examined. In Chinese letters, '肉' is a sign that symbolizes the body. The letters '肝', '脾', '肺', and '腎' expressing the five human organs all contain the form of '肉'. So they don't cause semantic confusion. However, the Chinese letter that means heart and mind are written as '心'. As a result, it is difficult to understand the meaning of '心'. In addition, the contents of 『Hwangjenaegyeog』 cover various fields from disease to astronomy. For this reason, a total of 286 '心' letters used in it have various meanings. The results of this study are as follows. First, it means human heart. Second, it means the human chest. Third, it refers to mind. Fourth, it means a transcendent concept like spiritual enlightenment. Fifth, it refers to pericardium. Sixth, it refers to logical thought Seventh, it means center or core, and finally does constellation. in the eastern sky of ancient Asia. The results of this study are thought to be helpful in grasping the meaning of '心' in the classical literature as well as in 『hwangjenaegyeonglyeongchu』.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare the muscle activity of the hip abductors and the ratio between the hip abductor muscle group according to the range of hip abduction during the clam exercise. Methods: This study was conducted on 18 healthy men in their aged 20 to 29 who had not been diagnosed with spine-related diseases. The subjects performed a clam exercise without rotation of the pelvis in a state of 60° hip flexion and 90° knee joint flexion in the side-lying position. Using Myomotion equipment and EMG, the muscle activity of the hip abductor muscles and the activity ratio between the hip abductor muscle group were measured during the clam exercise by dividing the range into initial, mid-range, and terminal sections. Repeated measures analysis of variants was employed to compare the activity and use of hip abductor muscles according to range of motion during the clam exercise. Results: Gluteus medius muscle activation was significantly increased in the comparison of muscle activity in the initial, mid-range, and terminal sections of hip abduction. Tensor fasciae latae muscle activation was significantly increased in the comparison of muscle activity in all range of motion sections as well. The gluteus medius-tensor fasciae latae muscle activation ratio was significantly increased in the terminal section compared to the initial section. Conclusion: The gluteus medius and tensor fasciae latae had higher muscle activities as they approached the terminal section during the clam exercise, and the hip abduction activity ratio of the gluteus medius and tensor fasciae latae was higher as the range of motion approached the terminal section.

  • Many spoofing detection studies have been conducted to cope with the most difficult types of deception among various disturbances of GPS, such as jamming, spoofing, and meaconing. In this paper, we propose a spoofing detection scheme based on elevation masked-relative received power between GPS L1 and L2 signals in a system using a multi-band array antenna. The proposed scheme focuses on enabling spoofing to be normally detected and minimizes the possibility of false detection in an environment where false alarms may occur due to pattern distortion among elements of an array antenna. The pattern distortion weakens the GPS signal strength at low elevation. It becomes confusing to detect a spoofing signal based on the relative power difference between GPS L1 and L2, especially when GPS L2 has weak signal strength. We propose design parameters for the relative power threshold including beamforming gain, the minimum received power difference between L1 and L2, and the patch antenna gain difference between L1 and L2. In addition, in order to eliminate the weak signal strength of GPS L2 in the spoofing detection process, we propose a rotation matrix that sets the elevation mask based on platform coordinates. Array antennas generally do not have high usefulness in commercial areas where receivers are operated alone, but are considered essential in military areas where GPS receivers are used together with signal processing for beamforming in the direction of GPS satellites. Through laboratory and live sky tests using the device under test, the proposed scheme with an elevation mask detects spoofing signals well and reduces the probability of false detection relative to that without the elevation mask.

  • This study investigates the physical mechanisms that contributed to the 2022 European record-breaking heatwave throughout May-August (MJJA). The European climate has experienced surface warming and drying in the recent decade (1979~2022) which influences the development of the 2022 European heatwave. Since its spatial pattern resembles the 2003 European heatwave which is a well-known case developed by the strong coupling of near-surface conditions to land surface processes, the 2022 heatwave is compared with the 2003 case. Understanding heatwave development is carried out by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) Reanalysis version 5 (ERA5) and daily maximum surface temperature released by NCEP (National Centers for Environmental Prediction) CPC (Climate Prediction Center). The results suggest that the persistent high pressure along with clear sky tends to increase the downward shortwave radiation which leads to enhanced sensible heat flux with the land surface dryness. Terrestrial Coupling Index (TCI), a process-based multivariate metric, is employed to quantitatively measure segmented feedback processes, separately for the land, atmosphere, and two-legged couplings, which appears to the development of the 2022 heatwave, can be viewed as an expression of the recent trends, amplified by internal land-atmosphere interactions.

  • Variability in Young Stellar Objects (YSOs) can be caused by time-dependent accretion rates, geometric changes in the circumstellar disks, the stochastic hydromagnetic interactions between stellar surfaces and inner disk edges, reconnections within the stellar magnetosphere, and hot/cold spots on stellar surfaces. We uncover ~1400 variables from a sample of ~5300 YSOs in nearby low-mass star-forming regions using mid-IR light curves obtained from the 5.5-years NEOWISE All Sky Survey. The mid-IR variability traces a wide range of dynamical, physical, and geometrical phenomenon. We classify six types of YSO variability based on their light curves: secular variability (Linear, Curved, Periodic) and stochastic variability (Burst, Drop, Irregular). YSOs in earlier evolutionary stages have higher fractions of variables at all types and higher amplitudes for the variability. Along with brightness variability, we also find a diverse range of secular color variations, which can be attributed to a competitive interplay between the variable accretion luminosity of the central source and the variable extinction by material associated with the accretion process. We compare the variability of known FUors/EXors and VeLLOs/LLSs, which represent two extreme ends (burst versus quiescent) of the episodic accretion process; FUors/EXors have a higher fraction of variables (65%) than VeLLOs/LLSs (41%). Short-term (few day) and long-term (decades) variability, as well as possible AGB contamination in the YSO catalogues, are also discussed.molecules become more complex by surface chemistry induced directly by high energy photons or by the thermal energy diffused over heated grain surface. • The air market in Asia has already entered upon the age of limitless competition. It means a very important moment in Asia air market. Each Asian country thus has put a lot of effort into a development plan and support to their hub airport. In order to achieve such a plan, first of all we should build closer cooperation system between the two countries Japan and Korea. The Korea and Japan are very fast growing in the northeast countries within the global air transport market. Air passenger and cargo traffic volumes between Korea and Japan have increased dramatically, since the 1990s. In response to such a trend, both countries have opened new airports and expanded existing facilities in the hopes of laying claims to the main international hub airport in Asia. Apart from the trend, air transportation between Korea and Japan's metropolitan areas is the only transportation in substance, even if they are located very closely in geographical position. The air transportation between the two countries shows that it is necessary to get fast and more convenient because of the economic and cultural interchange and exchange concentrated on the metropolitan areas, and that will promote the economic growth of Korea and Japan. However, within the air transportation industry field, there have no sufficient seats/slots to supply the air demand from the capital cities of each country, as well as no counterplan for some problems regarding capacityand sustain ability of metropolitan airports. Thus, it is necessary for us to consider in all aspects and solve them to improve air transportation between Korea and Japan. This paper is to try to demonstrate this matter and from all angles, that is, in legal and political aspects, facilities and given environmental conditions and cooperation between Korea and Japan. I think that it is indeed a great necessary and convenient for many Korean and Japanese tourists to conclude a new 'Open Sky Agreement' between Japan and Korea in order to the prepare the increase of the shuttle flight between Haneda-Gimpo and opening of air route newly for shuttle flight between Haneda and Cheongju as well as opening of air route for shuttle flight between Haneda-Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and Beijing International Airport for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Furthermore it is a great desirable thing for us to conclude a new 'Open Sky Agreement' in cooperation reciprocally among the Japan, China and Korea for opening the new air route by the shuttle flight.
