A case of cutaneous fibroma was diagnosed in the skin of the right hindlimb of a Korean indigenous cattle in Kyungpook province, Korea. Grossly, the protruding skin nodules consisted of a solitary mass $(1.5{\times}1.5{\sim}3.0{\times}3.0cm)$ above large grapelike warty nodules $(11.0{\times}11.0cm)$ on the leg. These masses were firm and rubbery, and the cut surface was gray to white. Histopathologically, the benign neoplastic nodules consisted of spindle-type fibroblasts with collagen. Melanoma, sarcoma, and fibropapilloma were excluded because there was no sign of melanin, muscle type cells, or epidermal proliferation. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a cutaneous fibroma in a Korean indigenous cattle in Korea.

Dendritic cells(DC) are a system of highly efficient antigen-presenting cells that initiate the primary immune response. There are two kinds of dendritic cells in the skin, Langerhans cell in the epidermis and dermal dendritic cell in the dermis. The knowledge of DC, which are very important in the immune reponse of cancer, autoimmune disease, transplantation and infection, has been known through the study about Langerhans cells. In this paper, the role of Langerhans cell in the contact hypersensitivity and atopic dermatitis is discussed and culture methods of mouse Langerhans cells and human U from pheripheral blood monocytes are described.
Myofibroblastic sarcoma can be classified as low-, intermediate-, and high-grade. Low-grade myofibroblastic sarcoma (LGMS) is uncommon and rarely appears on the skin. LGMS is diagnosed based on histopathological and immunohistochemical findings. Additionally, LGMS metastases are rare as well. Herein, the authors describe a case of cutaneous LGMS in the neck. To the best of our knowledge, there are no cases regarding cutaneous LGMS in the neck present in the existing literature. Surgical resection is considered as the most important treatment for LGMS. Therefore, a complete tumor resection was performed in this case. However, another mass in the uterus was identified on abdominal computed tomography performed post-surgery.
We describe four cases of feline progressive histiocytosis (FPH) including three females (one intact, two spayed) and one castrated male cat, with a mean age of 5.95 years at diagnosis. Masses were found under the skin of head, lip, neck, and vulva. Histologically, proliferative round cells had ovoid nuclei, foamy eosinophilic cytoplasm, distinct cytoplasmic processes, and numerous mitotic figures. Immunohistochemically, all cases were positive for Iba1 and MHC II (Dako). One case showed cytoplasmic positive staining for E-cadherin. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first documented report of FPH in Korea.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between the differentials in life styles and their effect on the epidermal facial tissue in order to provide a basis for health professionals so that they might better be able to maintain and promote healthy skin care and further delay the premature ageing of the epidermal facial tissue. The subjects consisted of 145 females of various ages who visited skin care room in cerming health promoting behaviors(Park In sook's Profile) and questions on their behavioral practices pertaining to personal skin care were used. The investigation also ess of the four parts of the epidermal facial tissue studied. All data collected wee entered into the SAS program and analyzed for frequency, percentages, the utilized Pusan. The study dates ranged from May 1, 1998 to May 30, 1998. The methods used for this investigation were a questionnaire survey consisting of general objective questions. The questions con a "skin analyzer" to measured levels of moisturizing hydrated, facial oils, and roughnmean, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson Correlation Coefficients. The results of this study were as follows ; 1. Epidermal facial oil was at its highest levels in the chin area with additional decreasing levels in the forehead and nose regions. The least regions were those of the cheeks. The highest levels of hydration on the other hand started with the forehead followed by the area of the chin, the cheeks and the lowest level of epidermal facial hydration was in the region of the nose. 2. The average score of the performance in the health promoting behaviors variable was 139.51. The variables with the highest degree of the performance were rest and sleeping(35.71). The lowest degree was hiegenic life(23.44). 3. The relationship health promoting behaviors and epidermal condition was not correlated with oil, hydration and roughness of the skin surface. 4. Skin care behavioral characteristics related to epidermal condition were washing style and temperature of washing water. 5. General characteristics related to epidermal condition were occupation, education level, acne and melasma. In conclusion, this study showed that several factors were significant in the behavior of skin care. Clear knowledge of both internal and external factors which affect the epidermal condition will help women to pursue active and appropriate practices in their health behaviors and skin care.
This study aims to provide basic materials for marketing strategies of cosmeceuticals by investigating customers' recognition and satisfaction about cosmeceuticals targeting 161 adult men and women in their 20s to 50s and living in Seoul, Korea and then analyzing what should be improved for customers. According to the survey, many customers prefer cosmeceuticals due to the professionalism recognized by hospitals, the recommendation by doctors and the scientific image, though the recognition about cosmeceuticals is low among customers in their 40s or older because they are unfamiliar with the term. The survey also shows that the satisfaction about cosmeceuticals is very high in that 94.41% out of 49.85% total users said they were willing to repurchase them, while 72.22% out of 50.15% total nonusers said they wanted to purchase them. The greater knowledge about skin, the higher the interest in cosmetics and the aesthetic practice rate. When it comes to comparing cosmeceutical users and nonusers in choosing cosmetic products, the greater knowledge about skin, more nonusers consider brand recognition (r=.222, p<.05) and cosmetic ingredient (r=.245, p<.005); and more users convenience (r=.162, p<.05). Now that total customers' awareness of cosmeceuticals remains low yet, therefore, it is considered necessary to steadily promote them, enhance repurchase factors, and come up with strategies differentiated from ordinary cosmetics.
This research was attempted to understand the types of the subjectivities possessed by the individuals regarding the management of the health of the skin on the part of the female university students by applying the Q-methodology and to comparatively analyze the special features. Regarding the subjects of the research, 41 female university students at one university were made into the P-samples. And, by selecting 34 Q-samples from the total of 141 Q-populations, the forced distribution took place in terms of the 9-points scale. The subjects were interviewed, and the contents regarding interviews were recorded. The data were analyzed with the QUANL program. As a result of the research, the 4 types were discovered. They appeared as 'the professional knowledge pursuing type', who consider the expertise regarding the skin management important, 'the nature-oriented type', who express the importance of the skin rather than the functional, cosmetic products, 'the active self- management type', who pursue the highly-functional cosmetic products and the active skin management, and 'the self-ostentation type', who consider the external parts, rather than the health, important. As a result, based on the results of this research, the special characteristics by each type regarding the skin health management of the female university students must be understood, and a differentiated educational method or approach method for the skin health management resulting this must be considered.
This study was conducted to investigate nutritional knowledge, dietary attitudes, and dietary behaviors of adult women, and to examine if these characteristics were different by acne status. Subjects were 106 adult women residing in Seoul recruited from clients and employers at skin care centers, and housewives from apartment complexes. Surrey instrument was adapted or modified based on literature review and dietary intakes were assessed using 24-hour recalls for two days and CAN-pro. All data was statistically analyzed using x$^2$test and ANOVA. When examined by acne status, 41.5% of subjects were categorized into acne group, 20.8% were as ex-acne group, and 37.7% as no-acne group. Parental experience of acne was significantly related to acne status(p〈 0.01). Education, employmental status, and smoking or drinking status were not related to acne status. Subjects had a moderate level of nutritional knowledge(72.7 point) and the nutritional knowledge store was not significantly different by acne status. When examined by individual items, the groups showed significant difference on the items regarding vitamin C and necessity of carbohydrates(p 〈 0.05). Subjects showed favorable dietary attitudes. Although the acne group showed more favorable attitudes on the importance of nutrition on acne, the overall dietary attitudes of the acne group were not significantly different from the ex-acne group or no-acne group. Similarly only small differences were noticed in dietary behaviors or nutrient intakes by acne status. Cholesterol consumption was hitgher in the no-acne group than in the acne group or ex-acne group(p 〈 0.01). The intakes of energy, iron, and calcium was much below the RDA in three groups. Although there were not many significant differences in nutritional knowledge, dietary attitudes, and dietary behaviors by acne status, this study provided some baseline information regarding study variables by acne status.

Purpose: Extravasation of diagnostic and therapeutic materials might occur when the intravascular solution leaks into the surrounding tissues. Injury associated with extravasation depends on various factors. It may range from mild skin reaction to severe necrosis. However, the incidence rate for extravasation is largely unknown because of the limited reporting in Korea. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify the incidence of extravasation and nurses' attitude and knowledge of extravasation for providing high-quality nursing care. Methods: Three acute care hospitals were surveyed to estimate the occurrence of extravasation. Knowledge and attitude toward extravasation were investigated from 793 nurses working in six hospitals. Results: The incidence rate of extravasation was 0.5%. Extravasation commonly occurred in elderly patients aged 66 or older (59.9%) and internal medicine (48.2%), and it happened 13.73±20.68 days after hospitalization on average. It mostly occurred in the forearm site (52.9%) and was mainly caused by parenteral nutrition (33.6%). The mean scores of nurses' knowledge and attitude were 14.63±2.86 and 28.91±36.00, respectively. There was a significant negative correlation between the subjects' knowledge and attitude (r=-.11, p=.002). Conclusion: It is necessary to have a reporting system that can accurately monitor the occurrence of extravasation for patient safety management. In addition, it is necessary to develop a protocol that can be applied to clinical practice and a nurse education program.
Surgical anatomy is an important and fundamental aspect for all surgical procedures. Anatomy provides a surgeon with the basic and in-depth knowledge that is required and mandatory when performing an operation. Although this subject might be tedious and routine, it is compulsory and should not be overlooked or neglected to avoid any possible postoperative complications. An aggressive and hasty operation without anatomic considerations might cause adverse effects that are irreversible even though a surgical anatomy of the nose is quite simple.
