Analysis of Adult Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Skill Performed by Emergency Medical Technicians in Fire Department (소방 2급응급구조사의 성인 심폐소생술에 대한 숙련도 분석)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to predict a reasonable direction to design a pertinent educational program in the future by evaluating an adult CPR(Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) skill performed by EMTs engaged in fire services organization and comparing the CPR success rate of factors as like a duty place and licensed year. Methods: We studied CPR skill by the use of a CPR manikin(Skillmeter Resusci Annie, Laerdal company). The study population consisted of 320 EMTs. Every EMT performed four cycle after investigating the manikin for 2 minutes. We regarded chest compression with 100 times in a minute as the 100% success rate. We analysed the skill of chest compression, ventilation and chest compression times success rate by the records printed in the CPR paper. Results: The average success rate of chest compression was 59.42$\pm$29.26% and ventilation 49.22$\pm$29.65%. The success rate of manual CPR was different between chest compression and ventilation. Also the success rate of chest compression times was high relatively as a 87.32$\pm$9.14%(p=0.000). For the CPR skill, ventilation was lowest as 49.22%. The factors such as duty place and licensed year did not influence the CPR success rate (p>0.001). Conclusion: We could have conclusion that CPR training should be shared more time in ventilation than in chest compression. Also we could reach to a conclusion that it is important to increase the times of CPR training for improving the accuracy of CPR and that the continuing education of CPR training frequency might be more than four times in a year.

A Low-Cost Approach for Path Programming of Terrestrial Drones on a Construction Site

  • Robots for construction sites, although not deeply widespread, are finding applications in the duties of project monitoring, material movement, documentation, security, and simple repetitive construction-related tasks. A significant shortcoming in the use of robots is the complexity involved in programming and re-programming an automation routine. Robotic programming is not an expected skill set of the traditional construction industry professional. Therefore, this research seeks to deliver a low-cost approach toward re-programming that does not involve a programmer's skill set. The researchers in this study examined an approach toward programming a terrestrial-based drone so that it follows a taped path. By doing so, if an alternative path is required, programmers would not be needed to re-program any part of the automated routine. Changing the path of the drone simply requires removing the tape and placing a different path - ideally simplifying the process and quickly allowing practitioners to implement a new automated routine. Python programming scripts were used with a DJI Robomaster EP Core drone, and a terrain navigation assessment was conducted. The study examined the pass/fail rates for a series of trial run over different terrains. The analysis of this data along with video recording for each trial run allowed the researchers to conclude that the accuracy of the tape follow technique was predictable on each of the terrain surfaces. The accuracy and predictability inform a non-coding construction practitioner of the optimal placement of the taped path. This paper further presents limitations and suggestions for some possible extended research options for this study.

The Correlation between Handwriting Skills and Praxis in the Low Grades Students at an Elementary School (초등학교 저학년 아동의 글씨쓰기와 실행능력과의 상관관계)

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to examine the correlation between handwriting skills and praxis. Method : Participants consisted of 50 normal children who were the second-grade students at an A elementary school in Kim-hae. They didn't have a visual dysfunction, an auditory dysfunction, and a disease or an injury in arms and hands. They could follow examiners' directions properly. They were administered the Postural Praxis and the Praxis on Verbal Command of the Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests(SIPT)(Ayres, 2000) and the handwriting skill test which was made with reference to foreign literatures. It was conducted from October 19, 2004 to December 17, 2004. The data were analyzed with non-paired t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient. Results : 1. Total handwriting score and praxis according to gender of children showed the statistically significant differences(p<0.05). 2. Total handwriting score correlated with praxis(p<0.05) and handwriting speed did not correlate with praxis. 3. Postural Praxis and Praxis on Verbal Command according to handwriting groups showed the statistically significant differences(p<0.05). 4. Among the standards of the handwriting skill test, accuracy of letter form, identity of letter size, spacing between letters and words, placing text on lines, error existence, and letter out of regular square correlated with the Postural Praxis(p<0.05), and accuracy of letter form, identity of letter size, and placing text on lines correlated with the Praxis on Verbal Command(p<0.05). Conclusions : The correlation between handwriting skills and praxis will help occupational therapists to provide fundamental and various treatment programs for children who are referred for the poor handwriting. But more studies in handwriting skills and praxis are necessary to decide which component of handwriting skills is related to praxis.

Assessment of ECMWF's seasonal weather forecasting skill and Its applicability across South Korean catchments (ECMWF 계절 기상 전망 기술의 정확성 및 국내 유역단위 적용성 평가)

  • Due to the growing concern over forecasting extreme weather events such as droughts caused by climate change, there has been a rising interest in seasonal meteorological forecasts that offer ensemble predictions for the upcoming seven months. Nonetheless, limited research has been conducted in South Korea, particularly in assessing their effectiveness at the catchment-scale. In this study, we assessed the accuracy of ECMWF's seasonal forecasts (including precipitation, temperature, and evapotranspiration) for the period of 2011 to 2020. We focused on 12 multi-purpose reservoir catchments and compared the forecasts to climatology data. Continuous Ranked Probability Skill Score method is adopted to assess the forecast skill, and the linear scaling method was applied to evaluate its impact. The results showed that while the seasonal meteorological forecasts have similar skill to climatology for one month ahead, the skill decreased significantly as the forecast lead time increased. Compared to the climatology, better results were obtained in the Wet season than the Dry season. In particular, during the Wet seasons of the dry years (2015, 2017), the seasonal meteorological forecasts showed the highest skill for all lead times.

Motor Skill Learning on the Ipsi-Lateral Upper Extremity to the Damaged Hemisphere in Stroke Patients

  • Purpose: This study examined whether there is a difference in motor learning through short-term repetitive movement practice in stroke survivors with a unilateral brain injury compared to normal elderly participants. Methods: Twenty-six subjects who were divided into a stroke group (n=13) or sex-aged matched normal elder group (n=13) participated in this study. To evaluate the effects of motor learning, the participants conducted a tracking task for visuomotor coordination. The accuracy index was calculated for each trial. Both groups received repetitive tracking task training of metacarpophalangeal joint for 50 trials. The stroke group performed a tracking task in the upper extremity insi-lesional to the damaged hemisphere, and the normal elder group performed the upper extremity matched for the same side. Results: Two-way repetitive ANOVA revealed a significant difference in the interactions ($time{\times}group$) and time effects. These results indicated that the motor skill improved in both the stroke and normal elder group with a tracking task. On the other hand, the stroke group showed lesser motor learning skill than the normal elder group, in comparison with the amount of motor learning improvement. Conclusion: These results provide novel evidence that stroke survivors with unilateral brain damage might have difficulty in performing ipsilateral movement as well as in motor learning with the ipsilateral upper limb, compared to normal elderly participants.

Accuracy of blood pressure measurements taken using a blood pressure simulator by paramedic students (응급구조(학)과 학생의 혈압측정 모형을 활용한 혈압측정 정확도)

  • Purpose: We gathered information for the development of a blood pressure measurement education program by analyzing the accuracy of reading taken using a blood pressure simulator by Korean paramedic students. Methods: Data from 131 students were collected in November 12-20, 2013, and April 2-4, 2014. A 27-item questionnaire was administered, the accuracy of measurements confirmed using a blood pressure simulator (BT-CEAB), and the data analyzed (SPSS v 21.0). Results: The accuracy of systolic and diastolic blood pressure readings (${\leq}2mmHg$) was relatively low (27.5%). The mean blood pressure knowledge score was 67.61 points; significant differences were noted considering the sex (p = .001), hours of practice (p =.007), numbers of practice (p = .001), and reported self-confidence (p = .026). The blood pressure measurement accuracy group did not show a significant difference in its knowledge of blood pressure (p = .198). Conclusion: Most subjects needed several practice sessions to master the skill of measuring blood pressure. The feedback provided by individual assessment and the practice education program will serve as the basis for clinical and prehospital practice.

A Study on Simulation of the Human and Informational Effect of Ship's controllability (선박제도에 영향을 미치는 인간 및 정보요인에 관한 시뮬레이션 연구)

  • The safety of the ship manoeuver is dependent not only on the inherent characteristics of the ship itself and environmental conditions, but also on the skill and experience of the ship operator. As the ship operator's judgement is related to his experience and skill, based on outside information, piloted controllability also depends upon the effectiveness, accuracy and reliability of various information which is obtainable from navigational equipments and aids to navigation that are available to the ship ope-rator. Although these factors, human factors and informational factors, have been pointed out as major factors which affect the controllability of a ship, there was no a comprehensive examination on the effect of these two factors. In this thesis, therefore, an attempt was made to examine whether or not there is clear indication that these two factors affect the controllability of a ship in reality. Experiments were conducted using the port design simulator of the Korea Maritime University.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the classified advantages and weak points of each landscape predictable simulation methods & techniques and to examine the suitability of through or selecting the predictable method suitable for present skill range and on studying the case of resident district unit plan. Therefore, we examined and evaluated through the case study of two sites. The results are as follows. It was very available to process the skill of mapping and picture combining method together at once. But, there was a limitation that is not flexible in the range of error on accuracy, so it was necessary to practically use the equipment and to study the theory. Providing the standard suitable for regional landscape character in each evaluation standard was also necessary.

Development of a Korean Red-Ginseng’s Shape Sorting System Using Image Processing (영상처리를 이용한 홍삼의 외형선별 시스템 개발)

  • The purpose of this study were to organize a sorting system, to develop an algorithm of image processing for the shape sorting, and to finally develop a scientific and objective shape sorting system of Korean Red-Ginseng for mechanization of the shape sorting. The results of this study are followed. 1. The shape sorting system of Korean Red-Ginseng consists of a control computer, a color CCD camera(WV-CP4110) for image processing, an image processing board(DT3153), and an image acquisition unit. 2. Many image processing skill, such as sliding, stretching, threshold, binary and D$\sub$t/ were used to analyze the shape sorting factors of Korean Red-ginseng. 3. The sorting accuracy of the shape sorting system for the Korean Red-Ginseng was 74.7%. It is 21.1% lower than that of human inspector. Although the system has low accuracy, using more cameras may improve its sorting accuracy.

Development of New Benchmark and Benchmark-observation Method for Effective Performence Rating Training of Assembling and Machining Operations (조립작업과 기계가공작업의 수행도평가훈련을 위한 기본표준과 기본표준관측법의 개발)

  • A major problem of stopwatch time study is how to do for the accurate and consistent performance rating, which is one of the critical variables to determine the accuracy of work measurement and should be still dependent upon time observer's judgement. Therefore the time observer's ability for the performance rating is very important, and must be improved by correct training method and procedure. This paper developed a new benchmark and benchmark-observation method for the effective performance rating training of assembling and machining operations. The trainees' ability in the accuracy and consistency of the performance rating ,improved significantly after being trained by subject method. The percentage improvement in rating accuracy and consistency values was 34.7% and 49% respectively. In addition, benchmark-practice method for the performance rating training is not significant, so it is proofed that the skill of a certain operation is not important for the improvement of the rating ability.
