급속경화형 AKD를 이용한 라이너지의 중성 사이징 (Neutral Sizing of Linerboard Using Fast Cure Type AKD)

  • To overcome troubles in strength and process of linerboard caused by raw materials, a neutral sizing which is usual in fine paper making can be considered. A new sizing agent is necessary to show good performance in a system with high conductivity and COD. In this study, fast cure type AKD was examined as a new sizing agent and compared with conventional AKD. The effects of fixing agent addition and drying condition were also investigated. Fast cure type AKD which has a higher cationicity showed better sizing degree than conventional AKD in spite of low addition level and no curing treatment. And when fixing agent of sufficient amount was added, sizing degree was improved for both AKDs. High cationicity is a crucial factor for neutral sizing of linerboard for obtaining fast and stable sizing degree. Drying with temperature over $100^{\circ}$ was desirable for developing sizing degree.

  • For the development of higher-sizing performance of paper, a sizing agent using recycled PET was synthesised. Polyester resin was extracted from wasted PET by subcritical hydrolysis and finally modified to synthetic sizing agent by mixing water-disperse PET with triphenyl phosphite(TPP). The modified PET was considered as an internal sizing agent in different wet-end papermaking conditions. The optimum condition in sizing efficiency was obtained in initial pH of 6.5 in case of rosin+alum system, and 7.5 in case of rosin+alum+PET system, respectively, and in addition amount of PET 3%. The sizing efficiency was also closely related according to the fiber properties of wet-end slurry, such as virgin fibres from UKP and recycled fibres from KOCC. The application of modified PET was good in strength improvement of paper, specially in tensile strength.

  • AKD sizing behavior of handsheets, which were prepared from the different pulps with various AKD fixing agents, was studied in this investigation. AKD sizing performance could be improved by removal of fines in the stock, minimizing damage of fiber, using a suitable fixing agent and heat treatment. Fillers with low surface energy, like calcium carbonate and talc, showed quite positive effect in AKD sizing. When PAM was added to the DIP stock as fixing agent, it showed lower sizing degree than polyamine did. But in case of NBKP system, PAM was more effective than polymine.

  • Polyethylene terephtahalate has been used in several areas such as fiber, film, bottle, and disposable products. Production of PET has been rapidly increasing these days. Since PET is a semi-permanent material, it has a non-biodegradable character in itself. Wasted PET products can cause serious environmental problems. Many countries around the world impose environmental legal restrictions over their abandonments. Many researches on the enviromental influence factors and treatment techniques of the wasted PET have been carried out. The main objective of this study is to develop a new sizing agent using recycling PET and improve its internal sizing effect. Dried powder of PET was used to make the modified PET. After extracting water-dispersible PET by subcritical hydrolysis, polyester resins have been extracted and triphenyl phosphate(TPP) has been added to obtain optimal internal sizing agent. It was found that the optimum dosage of TPP was 2% (per PET weight) and the hydrolysis temperature was independent on making the modified PET.

  • 본 연구에서는 유화중합을 통해 water jet loom용 경사 호제인 비용제형 수용성 아크릴 호제(GSW-7000)를 합성하였다. 이 호제는 아크릴계 호제의 암모늄염 형태로 제조되어 weaving force에 대한 저항력과 water jet loom 사용에 있어 물에 대한 저항력이 우수하였다. 제조한 GSW-7000은 sizing에 적당한 점도를 가지고 있고, 신도와 접착력, 용해성, 침투성 및 호부착성이 우수하였다. 또한 본 호제로 처리된 호부사는 접착강도가 높아 기존 용제형 아크릴 호제에 비하여 sizing시 호제 소모량을 70~80% 수준으로 저하시켜도 우수한 집속성 및 포합력을 나타내었으며, 호피막이 유연하며 평활성 및 내마모성이 우수하여 호부시 유제 및 대전 방지제를 사용하지 않아도 sizing 및 제직이 가능하였다.

Effect of Spreading of Neutral Sizing Agent, Alkylketene Dimer, on Sizing Development

  • The objective of this work was to investigate the effect of spreading behavior of the sizing agents (AKD or dialkyl ketone) on the sizing development of AKD-sized paper. There was a direct relationship between the spreading behavior of the sizing agents and their melting points. Both AKD and dialkyl ketone showed no substantial spreading until the temperature reaches to their melting points. Consequently, dialkyl ketone did not provide sizing development when the paper was heat-treated below $75^{\circ}C$, while AKD provided sizing effect even the paper heated at $50^{\circ}C$. The ketone, however, provided rather higher sizing effect than that of AKD, when the paper was heat-treated over $100^{\circ}C$. This result means that the ketone also gives sizing development to paper, moreover the ketone could give higher sizing effect to paper than AKD when it was melted and well spreaded on the fiber surface. While the ketone introduced to papers from hydrolyzed AKD emulsion could not contribute to sizing development.

  • In this study, the effect of sizing on the physical and mechanical characteristics of Hansan ramie was studied. 2 kinds of Hansan ramie were used for this study and one kind of the chinese ramie was also used for comparing with the characteristics of Hansan ramies. The following results were obtained from this experimental study. The wrinkle recovery angle was gradually reduced according to the increasing of the concentration of sizing agent. As the size agent could easily penetrate between the thick yarms, the effect of sizing on the wrinkle recovery angle was evident on the Chinese and Hansan coarse ramie. The result of KES-F system showed that the sizing affected much on the bending properties and shear properties. As the size concentration was increased the shear properties were increased more evidently on the Chinese and Hansan coarse ramie. The result of KES-F system showed that the sizing affected much on the bending properties and shear properties. As the size concentration was increased the shear properties were increased more evidently than the bending properties. The other mechanical properties didn't changed much by sizing. The calculated primary hand value also showed that the ramie became more stiff after sizing.

  • Reduction of fresh water consumption and effluent discharge provide diverse advantages in raw materials and energy savings. Papermaking system closure, however, reduces the efficiency of additives, decreases retention and dewatering, and causes many other Problems in papermaking. Accumulation of inorganic and organic substances in the process white water is the prime cause of these problems. Understanding of the accumulation phenomena of the detrimental substances in the papermaking process is of great importance for papermaking system closure. In this study a process simulation method was employed to analyze the accumulation phenomena of anionic starch in the process white water as the reuse rate of dry broke and pick up of surface sizing agent is increased. Steady state simulation studies were carried out based on the model developed in previous study. The variation of dissolved starch concentration in each process unit was monitored as a function of reuse rate of dry broke and surface sizing agent pick up rate. The result showed that dissolved starch concentration Increased as reuse rate of dry broke and surface sizing agent pick up rate was increased.

사이징제에 따른 유리섬유/불포화 폴리에스터 복합재료의 계면 접착력과 기계적 물성 (Influence of Sizing Agent on Interfacial Adhesion and Mechanical Properties of Glass Fiber/Unsaturated Polyester Composites)

  • 유리섬유/불포화 폴리에스터 복합재료에서 섬유에 처리된 사이징제가 복합재료의 최종 물성에 미치는 영향을 상온에서의 접촉각 측정을 통해 고찰하였다. 본 연구에서는 폴리비닐알코올, 폴리에스터, 그리고 에폭시계 사이징제를 사용하여 유리섬유의 표면을 처리하였으며 각각의 물성을 비교하였다. 유리섬유의 접촉각은 증류수와 diiodomethane을 젖음액으로 사용하여 Washburn식을 기본으로 한 wicking법으로 측정하였다. 결과적으로 접촉각 측정에 의해 구한 표면자유에너지는 에폭시계 사이징제로 치리된 유리섬유에서 최대값을 나타내었다. 복합재료의 층간 전단 강도 (ILSS)와 파괴 인성 ( $K_{IC}$ )의 측정 결과로부터 사이징제의 처리에 따라 계면 결합력이 증진되며 결과적으로 복합재료의 기계적 강도가 증가함을 알 수 있었다. 이것은 복합재료에서 유리섬유의 표면 자유에너지 증가에 기인한다고 사료된다.

Oxidized Acetate Starch as a New Surface Sizing Agent

  • Oxidized acetate starch was synthesized from corn oxidized starch and vinyl acetate. The sizing concentration and degree of substitution of modified starch on surface strength, smoothness and water resistance of the paper have been studied. The results showed that the surface strength, smoothness and other properties of paper sized by oxidized acetate starch is better than that of oxidized starch. When the degree of substitution of modified starch is from 0.04 to 0.14, the properties of paper sized by oxidized acetate starch have been improved more effectively.
