  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a brassiere sizing chart for elderly women. It is found that there is no direct linear relationship between cup size and under bust girth from the analsis of breast measurements. These 2 factors(under bust girth and cup size) were chosen as 2 axes of brassiere size chart. A loss function was used to determined intervals of bust girth and cup size of size chart, because the loss function introduces the concept of frequency to size chart for better customer's satisfaction. From the dual distribution table whose intervals had been determinde by a loss function. The 15 sizes, which had more than 2% of appearance were suggested for brassiere size chart. The suggested brassierc sizes covened 87.6% of all subjects. Considering that KS brassiere size thart consisting of 32 sizes covers 88.5%, the suggested brassiere size chart would be considered quite feasible. Also is suggested supply reference measurement chart relevant to brassiere manufacturing for 10 most frequent sizes.

  • JSize is a Java equivalent of the Unix size program. The Unix size program analyses an executable file and estimates the size of code and data segment when the file is loaded on memory. Likewise, JSize analyze a Java class file and estimates the size of class area when the file is loaded on memory. This paper presents the principles necessary to estimate the class area size with the information obtained from a class file. An experimental result is included to show the accuracy of estimation the JSize provides.

  • An Adaptive Usage Parameter Control(UPC) mechanism using a Variable Token Pool(VTP) which is kind of preventive traffic control in the Asynchronous Transfer Mode(ATM) networks is described. The VTP mechanism can monitor violations of the average bit rate and burst duration as well as peak bit rate for the ON-OFF type traffic. The VTP can vary the token pool size by monitoring burst duration and silence duration for a long term. It also improves the sensitivity against the violation of burst duration and average bit rate and enables to response for the violating traffic situation quickly. The variable token pool size is varied in step size by every burst duration and silence duration. Two important parameters for controlling token pool size are Down_size and Up_size. We compare the performance of LB and JW mechanism with the proposed VTP mechanism by computer simulations. We have known that the proposed method is more effective than the previous mechanisms. It is shown that the cell loss rate of the VTP quite depends on the value of Down_size and Up_size. The two parameters should be decided as a propr value according to traffic situations.

  • To study the body trunk form which is essential to clothing constructions, necessary body sizes were measured indirect1y from 216 unmarried women from 19 to 24 years old by a photographic network method. The results are obtained as follow; 1) In this study of body type measurements, the four factors of bust, abdomen, column and hip size have been divided into four-stage intervals and given the body type codes 1, 2, 3 and 4, with 1 designating the size difference of the factor with the minimum size difference of the factor with the maximum size difference from waist size. These body type codes can be easily, linguistically interpreted. In this study, among $4^4=256$ possible body types, 54 types appeared frequently. These 54 types are integrated into 6 groups of types by clustering analysis. Representative types of each group are types 3333 and 2333 in group 1, 2233, 1233 and 1332 in group 2, 2222, 1222 and 1223 in group 3, 2223 in group 4, 2323 and 2322 in group 5, and 3323, 3223 and 3322 in group 6. In the types of groups 1, 2, and 3, the change is mainly in bust size, and in the types of group 4. is single type. In the types of group 5 the change is mainly in hip size, and in the types by groups 6 the change is mainly in abdomen size and hip size. 2) The analysis by measuring the four elements of body trunk in reference to waist size is scientific and grading of similar styles is possible in clothing construction. 3) Assuming that the human body is oval, using the calculating method, the size of girth, which cannot be measured by the indirect measuring method, is obtained approximate to actual size, with an error of ${\pm}2.8cm$.

  • This paper develops an algorithm to determine the batch size of the batch process in real time for improving production and efficient control of production system with multiple processes and batch processes. It is so important to find the batch size of the batch process, because the variability arising from the batch process in the production system affects the capacity of the production. Specifically, batch size could change system efficiency such as throughput, WIP (Work In Process) in production system, batch formation time and so on. In order to improve the system variability and productivity, real time batch size determined by considering the preparation time and batch formation time according to the number of operation of the batch process. The purpose of the study is to control the WIP by applying CONWIP production system method in the production line and implements an algorithm for a real time batch size decision in a batch process that requires long work preparation time and affects system efficiency. In order to verify the efficiency of the developed algorithm that determine the batch size in a real time, an existed production system with fixed the batch size will be implemented first and determines that batch size in real time considering WIP in queue and average lead time in the current system. To comparing the efficiency of a system with a fixed batch size and a system that determines a batch size in real time, the results are analyzed using three evaluation indexes of lead time, throughput, and average WIP of the queue.

  • Information processing in variable and noisy environments is usually accomplished by means of adaptive filters. Among various adaptive algorithms, Least Mean Square (LMS) has become the most popular for its robustness, good tracking capabilities and simplicity, both in terms of computational load and easiness of implementation. In practical application of the LMS algorithm, the most important key parameter is the Step Size. As is well known, if the Step Size is large, the convergence rate of the algorithm will be rapid, but the steady state mean square error (MSE) will increase. On the other hand, if the Step Size is small, the steady state MSE will be small, but the convergence rate will be slow. Many researches have been proposed to alleviate this drawback by using a variable Step Size. In this paper, a new variable Step Size LMS(VSSLMS) called Categorized VSSLMS (CVSSLMS) is proposed. CVSSLMS updates the Step Size by categorizing the current status of the gradient, hence significantly improves the convergence rate. The performance of the proposed algorithm was verified from the view point of convergence rate, Excessive Mean Square Error(EMSE), and complexity through experiments.

  • In this study, size effect tests were conducted on axial compressive strength of concrete members. An experiment of Mode I failure, which is one of two representative compressive failure modes, was carried out by using dimensionally proportional cylindrical specimens (CS). An adequate notch length was taken from the experimental results obtained from the compressive strength experiment of various initial notch lengths. Utilizing the notch length, specimen sizes were then varied. In addition, new parameters for the modified size effect law (MSEL) were suggested using Levenberg-Marquardt's least square method (LSM). The test results show that size effect was apparent for axial compressive strength of cracked specimens. Namely, the effect of initial notch length on axial compressive strength size effect was apparent.

  • This study empirically investigates innovative behaviors of the firm. In so doing, a Probit was employed and estimated. We used the raw data of the "corporate innovation survey"(CIS), which, in consent with OECD efforts, is regularly undertaken by the Science and Technology Policy Institute(SIEPI). The data set includes more than 3400 firms in the manufacturing sector. Three types of innovation, i.e., new product, product improvement and process innovation, are studied, assuming that determinants of innovation are firm′s age. number of employees as the size of firm, ratio of foreign ownership and innovation costs. To investigate the relationship between firm′s innovation behavior and the size, we estimate the Probit including the quadratic term of the firm size. Empirical findings showed that the sign of the quadratic term of the firm size turned out to be negative. It means that the probability of firm's making innovation shows the inversed-U relationship with the firm size. Such an empirical result may have a significant implication for the industrial policy.

  • Shear failure of reinforced concrete beams is serious problem due to sudden brittle failure and many experimental results proved that size effect in shear behavior is an important feature of reinforced concrete members. For this reason, the structural safety of the reinforced concrete beams for shear has been checked by applying empirical design formula, which includes the size-effect, derived from experimental data. However, as the sizes of reinforced concrete members become extremely large, experiments sometimes become very difficult so that the formula or the experimental data could not be obtained and size-effect analyses of shear behavior become significant. In this study, size-effect analysis of shear behavior in reinforced concrete beams is performed by modeling tension stiffening/shear stiffening on reinforced concrete and the tension softening/shear softening on plain concrete. Then, the influences of models in the size-effect analyses of shear behavior in reinforced concrete beams are analyzed.
