Seasonal variation of the fishery resource in the shallow waters of Ganghwado tidal flat was investigated using monthly collected samples with a fence net from June 1998 to May 1999. Thirty-six species were found including 27 fish species, 6 crustaceans, and 3 molluscs. Of the fish, Konosirus punctatus, Sardinella zunasi Liza haematocheila and Synechogobius hasta dominated in the number of individuals $(92.1\%)$ and in biomass $(94.5\%).$ A few number of resident species, such as L. haematocheila and S. hasta, were collected only during the cold months. As the water temperature increased in the spring, the adult migratory fish such as K. punctatus and S. zunasi, were collected. In the summer, the juvenile fish recruited in the shallow water showing a peak in fish abundance. The data suggested that they grew until late autumn before moving to deeper waters for over-wintering. The principal component analysis showed that the seasonal variation in species composition was principally determined by water temperature and/or water temperature related factors. The species composition of the fish assemblage in the study area suggested that these species are highly adapted to extreme seasonal temperature variation and high water turbidity.

As a part of the research project "Survey of freshwater organisms and specimen collection," freshwater samples were collected from the Nakdong River. Among the bacterial isolates, we selected strains that showed higher than 98.7% 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with confirmed bacterial species previously unreported in South Korea. The 14 new records to South Korea were phylogenetically diverse and belonged to four phyla, six classes, 11 orders, and 14 genera. At the genus level, these species were found to be affiliated with Reyranella, Ferrovibrio, Brevundimonas, and Aquidulcibacter of the class Alphaproteobacteria; Pseudomonas, Cellvibrio, and Photobacterium of the class Gammaproteobacteria; Paenibacillus and Bacillus of the phylum Firmicutes; Chryseobacterium, Flavobacterium, Pedobacter of the phylum Bacteroidetes; and Actinomadura and Leifsonia of the phylum Actinobacteria. These species were further characterized by examining their Gram reaction, colony and cell morphologies, biochemical properties, and phylogenetic positions. The detailed descriptions of these 14 previously unreported species are provided.
Species diversity is one of the most important specifications of biological societies. Diversity of organisms, measurement of variety and examination of those hypotheses that are about reasons of diversity are such as affairs that have been desired by the ecologists for a long time. In this research, diversity of plant species in forest region, numbers of 60 sample plots in 256.00 square meters have been considered in random - systematic inventory was considered. In each sample plot, four micro-plots in 2.25 square meters in order to study on herbal cover, were executed that totally 240 micro-plots were considered. At each plot six diversity indices in relation to physiographic factors (slope, geographical aspect and altitude from the sea level) were studied. The results indicate that species diversity is more in the northern direction and also species diversity in slops less than 30% has the most amounts. Factor of altitude from the sea level did not have meaningful relation with species diversity. Through study on correlation of the numbers of species in sample plots with indices and also process and role of indices in different processors of analysis, Simpson's reciprocal index was suggested as suitable index in this type of studies.

To obtain unrecorded bacterial species in Korea, various soils of coastal areas were collected from the Republic of Korea in 2022. After plating the samples on marine agar and incubating aerobically and anaerobically, approximately 1,700 bacterial strains were isolated and identified using 16S rRNA gene sequences. A total of 20 strains showed ≥98.7% 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with validly published bacterial species but not reported in Korea, indicating they are unrecorded bacterial species in Korea. The unrecorded bacterial strains belonged to four phyla, six classes, 15 orders, 16 families, and 19 genera which were assigned to Blastomonas and Sphingomonas of the class Alphaproteobacteria; Pseudidiomarina, Kushneria, Salinicola, and Salinisphaera of the class Gammaproteobacteria; Evansella, Virgibacillus, and Paenibacillus of the class Bacilli; Cyclobacterium of the class Cytophagia; Pedobacter of the class Sphingobacteriia; and Demequina, Ornithinimicrobium, Blastococcus, Jatrophihabitans, Kineococcus, Glaciihabitans, Aeromicrobium and Streptomyces of the class Actinomycetes. The details of the 20 unreported species, including Gram reaction, morphology, biochemical characteristics, and phylogenetic position are also provided in the description of the strains.
The family Velutinidae is found in various intertidal and subtidal habitats worldwide including Arctic and Antarctic seas. They are characterized by possessing a fragile shell that is partially or entirely covered by the mantle. Eight valid species of the genus Coriocella have been reported mostly in the Indo-West Pacific. Here we report Coriocella jayi Wellens, 1996 from Korean waters for the first time and describe details of their external morphology and radula characteristics using scanning electron microscopy, and provide the mtDNA cox1 sequence as a DNA barcode sequence information. This species is distinguished from other congeneric species by having six cylinder-shaped tubercular lobes of their dorsal part of mantle body and mantle color. Phylogenetic tree using the mtDNA cox1 sequence data shows that two Coriocella species (C. jayi and C. nigra) are grouped as their respective sister among Velutinidae species, and these relationships are strongly supported by 100% bootstrap value. Despite the morphological similarities, further investigation will be needed to confirm whether the African and Korean populations can be justified as the same species with a disconnected distribution range, or represent morphologically similar but two distinct species.

Various samples from island and coastal ecosystems in South Korea were investigated to discover unrecorded bacterial species. Soils from these areas, along with seawater samples, were plated on marine agar and R2A agar (containing 3% sea salt). From these samples, approximately 1,070 bacterial strains were isolated as single colonies and identified using 16S rRNA gene sequences. A total of 20 strains, which exhibited at least 98.7% similarity in their 16S rRNA gene sequences to those of validly published bacterial species not yet reported in Korea, were identified as unrecorded bacterial species. These strains belonged to three phyla, six classes, 10 orders, 14 families, and 16 genera. These were assigned as follows: Thioclava, Breoghania, Acidovorax, Erythrobacter, Paracoccus, Jiella, Aurantimonas, and Qipengyuania within the class Alphaproteobacteria; Pseudomonas, Cobetia, and Rheinheimera within the class Gammaproteobacteria; Aequorivita, Leeuwenhoekiella, and Polaribacter within the class Flavobacteriia; Algoriphagus within the class Cytophagia; and Microbacterium within the class Actinobacteria. The unreported species underwent further taxonomic characterization, which included assessments of Gram reaction, colony and cell morphology, biochemical and phylogenetic characteristics.
Gibberella fujikuroi is species complex. This species complex includes Fusarium tabacinum, F. moniliforme(=F. verticillioides), F. nygamai, F. proliferatum as well as F. subglutinans. Our objective was to develop a technique to differentiate between isolates of F. subglutinans, F. proliferatum and F. verticillioides. Thirty-two strains of F. subglutinans, six strains from F. verticillioides and five strains of F. Proliferatum isolated from maize in Austria were studied using random amplified polymorphic DNA(RAPD). F. subglutinans strains clustered very closely, with similarity ranging from $87{\sim}100%$. On the other hand, all the amplification patterns of F. verticillioides were identical, as well as in the case of F. proliferatum. Our results indicated that these Fusaria species are distinct species and hence RAPD markers can be quick and reliable for differentiating them.
Ten new species of the genus Falcileptoneta are described; Falcileptoneta bifurca n. sp., F. boeunensis n. sp., F. chiakensis n. sp., F. cornuta n. sp., F. digitalis n. sp., F. hansanensis n. sp., F. juwangensis n. sp., F. moakensis n. sp., F. naejangenesis n. sp., and F. unmunensis n. sp. And six species previously known as Leptoneta spiders are transferred to Falcileptoneta as fo11ows; Falcileptoneta coreana (Paik and Namkung, 1969), F. hwanseonensis (Namkung, 1987), F. secula (Namkung, 1987), F. simboggulensis (Paik, 1971), F. yebongsanensis (Kim, Lee and Namkung, 2004), and F. yongdamgulensis (Paik and Namkung, 1969), all n. comb.
Mt. Yeonae is at Gijang-gun in Busan and is surrounded by farming lands on three sides. The search for the species composition and dynamics of local communities were studied at Mt. Yeonae of how spatial similarity decays with geographic distance. The index values of Z$\ddot{u}$rich-Montpellier School's phytosociology at the 12 plots was compared to a distribution of similarly using 20 m quadrates at 12 sites. The specific communities were five including Pinus densiflora - Quercus variabilis community. Six species were significant similarity between neighboring sites by using the spatial autocorrelation coefficient, Moran's I. If Mt. Yeonae was destroyed by an artificial action, some spatial correlated species such as P. densiflora and Q. variabilis will be collapsed because of no maintaining the effective population sizes.
Previously, only one species belonging to the genus Apophua was recorded from South Korea by Kim (1955). Here, six additional species, A. cicatricosa, A. evanescens, A. honmai, A. stena, A. sugaharai and A. tobensis, are reported for the first time in South Korea. In this paper, we provide a key to the Eastern Palaearctic species of Apophua and diagnoses, as well as photographs of South Korean species.
