  • Six Sigma advocates rigorous application of quality management tool. Using Six Sigma program provides a mechanism for service organization to achieve organization's goal and customer satisfaction. A model on Six sigma in service organization was developed and applied for the service organization. Questionnaire was developed, and data was collected and analyzed for this study. Conclusively, 6 sigma leadership is the important drivers to process management and customer relationship management. Process management and customer relationship management are significantly related to the job performance and customer satisfaction.

  • In the last ten years, manufacturing companies like GE, IBM, Motorola and service companies like GE Capital and CITIBANK have realized that Six Sigma has standed for quality reform movemant. Six Sigma management which makes the critic effects on the quality management have enlarged and applied office indirect work process and service department as well beyond question manufacturing process. Then Can Six Sigma application methodology from manufacturing industry be applied to service industry without transformation? Can Six Sigma be applied on improvement of Information system quality which is the critic key figure of current successful companies? These questions would be resolved by conducting researches about application and evaluation of Six Sigma on manufacturing industry and service industry.   • There are many statistical evaluation methods, A more technical Perspective is needed in estimating the effect of the Manufacturing Process for improving the Productivity, Process network analysis is a technique which has the potentiality for a wire use to improve the manufacturing process which other techniques can't be used to analyze effectively. The concept of six sigma plan was developed and pursued by Motorola to improve the process control.   • As the competition between companies are deepened, the number of companies adopting six sigma principles, which is one of the innovative management strategies, are increasing. According to this trend, the changes in both strategies and methodologies of six sigma are continuous. However, the evaluations and the management principles included in the process after the six sigma applications are insufficient, and the cooperation between the parties in the company is also not enough because the application process of six sigma is too complex and not efficient. In order to solve this problem, a research for developing the methodology which can learn about and do six sigma applications is so necessary, specifically for expanding the six sigma applications and introducing the participation of all company members. The purpose of this study, therefore, was to develop and present more efficient Six Sigma applied process by reducing the existing unnecessary steps in improvement one, by applying the examination method of wasteful elements on the potential factors, through analyzing the Six Sigma DMAIC applied case in the construction industry. The result of those application showed that the detection of potential factors using wasting elements was possible in measurement step and that it was possible for the improved process with reduced steps compared to existing process while to remain the outcomes. It is considered that the performance rate of Six Sigma project will be improved significantly because the reduction in the improvement step does not affect the improvement effect within the whole Six Sigma project.

  • This article presents a six sigma project for improving purchase conversion rate in mobile game site. The project was carried out based on DMAIC process. First, a defect rate is defined as low purchase conversion rate. In addition, 60-days purchase data was analyzed and it is shown that the defects level was 2.48 sigma level. In this study, in order to raise the sigma level, six personalization services were used in the mobile game site. Six factors were determined based on FDPM(Functional Deployment Process Map), fishbone chart, linear regression analysis, effort-performance matrix, and so on. The sigma level of defects has improved from 2.48 to 2.93.

  • This is an R&D project on design optimization of the inner shield of the Omega color picture tube at Samsung SDI in Korea. This was an R&D project which basically used the IDOV (Identify, Design, Optimize, Validate) process for Six Sigma implementation. Most Six Sgima projects use the process of DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control). However, this project introduces a new cycle, RDIDOV (Recognize, Define, and IDOV). Here CPT means Color Picture Tube. Sam sung SDI is one of the two companies which began Six Sigma in Korea. This case study shows a good example how an R&D Six Sigma project can be usefully employed in manufacturing companies using a new process cycle.

  • The concept of six sigma was introduced at and popularized by Motorola in its quest to reduce defects of manufactured electronics products. When used as a metric, six sigma technically means having no more than 3.4 defects per million opportunities in any process, product, or service. More important than the technical definition is the concept of six sigma as a disciplined, quantitative approach for improvement of defined metrics in manufacturing, service, or financial processes. This approach derives the overall process of selecting the right projects based on their potential to improve performance metrics and selecting and training the right people to get the business results.

  • This paper considers a six sigma project for reducing the cost copper of the cable materials in a electric wire company. The project follows a disciplined process of five macro phases: define, measure, analyze, improve, and control (DMAIC). A process map is used to identify process input variables. Three key process input variables are selected by using an input variables are selected by using an input variable evaluation table: large cable, plating, and a twisted pair. DOE is utilized for finding the optimal process conditions of the three key process input variables. The implementing result of this six sigma project is enable for reducing of the 2.8% copper materials.

  • Recently, six sigma has been widely adopted in a variety of industries as a disciplined, data-driven problem solving approach or methodology supported by a handful of powerful statistical tools in order to reduce variation through continuous process improvement. Also, data mining has been widely used to discover unknown knowledge from a large volume of data using various modeling techniques such as neural network, decision tree, regression analysis, etc. This paper proposes a six sigma methodology based on data mining for effectively and efficiently processing massive data in driving six sigma projects. The proposed methodology is applied in the hot stove system which is a major energy-consuming process in a "P" steel company for improvement of heat efficiency through reduction of energy consumption. The results show optimal operation conditions and reduction of the hot stove energy cost by 15%.

  • This paper presents a six sigma application case study for an automobile steering wheel manufacturing process using rolled throughput yield improvement activity. Hidden factory and first pass yield concept is introduced and a DMAIC procedure is implemented to maximize the first pass yield. The result of the six sigma project amounts to the reduction of failure cost of 1.2 billion won per year in the steering wheel manufacturing process. This paper can benefit six sigma practitioners in some ways.
