The objects of this paper are to formulated a model for the transport of a chain of radioactive waste products in a fractured porous medium, to devise an effective and efficient numerical method for approximating the solution of the model, and to demonstrated the convergence of the numerical method. The formulation begins from a model in an unfractured (single porosity) medium, passes through a double porosity model in a fractured medium, and ends with a modified single porosity model that takes the relevant time scales of the flow and the nuclear decay.
In the absence of a clear command and control structure, a key challenge in supply chain management is the coordination and alignment of the supply chain members who pursue divergent and often conflicting goals. The newsvendor model is typically used as a framework to quantify the cost of misalignment and to assess the impact of coordination initiatives. This paper considers a fuzzy approach for the newsvendor problem which includes a single manufacturer and a single retailer. We use several fuzzy parameters in the model such as the demand, the wholesale price, and the market sales price. We apply a coordination policy, referred to as buyback, to solve the fuzzy newsvendor problem. Based on the buyback policy, the optimal order quantity of the retailer can be computed, and the possible profits of the members in the supply chain can be calculated with minimum sharing of private information. Focusing on the fuzzy model with buyback policy for the newsvendor problem, we illustrate exemplary fuzzy models. We also illustrate an integration model, which extends a single-manufacturer-single-retailer model to the single-manufacturer-multiple-retailer setting. In the extended model, we consider three coordination policies including quantity discount, profit sharing, and buyback, as well as non-coordination case.
High-performance Linpack (HPL) is among the most popular benchmarks for evaluating the capabilities of computing systems and has been used as a standard to compare the performance of computing systems since the early 1980s. In the initial system-design stage, it is critical to estimate the capabilities of a system quickly and accurately. However, the original HPL mathematical model based on a single core and single communication layer yields varying accuracy for modern processors and accelerators comprising large numbers of cores. To reduce the performance-estimation gap between the HPL model and an actual system, we propose a mathematical model for multi-communication layered HPL. The effectiveness of the proposed model is evaluated by applying it to a GPU cluster and well-known systems. The results reveal performance differences of 1.1% on a single GPU. The GPU cluster and well-known large system show 5.5% and 4.1% differences on average, respectively. Compared to the original HPL model, the proposed multi-communication layered HPL model provides performance estimates within a few seconds and a smaller error range from the processor/accelerator level to the large system level.
This paper presents the construction of an active suspension system of a one-wheel car model by using fuzzy reasoning. The car model is approximately described by a nonlinear two degrees freedom system subject to excitation from a road profile, and the active control force is constructed by actuating a pneumatic actuator, and the degradation of the performance due to the delay of the pneumatic actuator is improved by inserting a compensator. The fuzzy control is obtained by single input rule modules fuzzy reasoning, and the excitation from the road profile is estimated by using a disturbance observer. The experimental result shows that the proposed active suspension system much improves the performance in the vibration suppression of the car model.
In this paper we develop a minimalist model of single molecule spectroscopy in a dynamic environment. Our model is based upon a lattice system consisting of a probe molecule embedded in an Ising-model like environment. We assume that the probe molecule interacts with the Ising spins via a dipole-dipole potential, and calculate free energy curves and lineshapes of the system. To investigate fluctuation behavior of the system we exploit the metadynamics sampling method. In particular, using the method, we calculate the free energy curve of magnetization of the lattice and that of the transition energy of the probe molecule. Furthermore, we compare efficiencies of three different sampling methods used; unbiased, umbrella, and metadynamics sampling methods. Finally, we explore the lineshape behavior of the probe molecule as the system undergoes a phase transition from a sub-critical and to a super-critical temperature. We show that the transition energy of a probe molecule is broadly distributed due to the heterogeneous, local environments.
This paper is investigated construction of the Scramjet test facility and test method of Scramjet engine combustor model. Scramiet engine combustor model test was performed at Lab C-16BK CIAM (Central Institute of Aviation Motors) at Tyraevo in Moscow. The velocity of flow in the combustion chamber equal to Mach number 2.49 with single hole fuel spray nozzle injector and test duration equal to 7 seconds. Therefore In this paper is showed high altitude test method of Scramjet combustor model and the proper structure of combustor with single hole fuel spray nozzle.
Low frequency oscillations (LFOs) are load angle oscillations that have a frequency between 0.1-2.0 Hz. Power system stabilizers (PSSs) are very effective controllers in improvement of the damping of LFOs. PSSs are designed by linearized models of the power system. This paper presents a new model of the power system that has the advantages of the Single Machine Infinite Bus (SMIB) system and the multi machine power system. This model is named a single machine normal-bus (SMNB). The equations that describe the proposed model have been linearized and a lead PSS has been designed. Then, particle swarm optimization technique (PSO) is employed to search for optimum PSS parameters. To analysis performance of PSS that has been designed based on the proposed model, a few tests have been implemented. The results show that designed PSS has an excellent capability in enhancing extremely the dynamic stability of power systems and also maintain coordination between PSSs.
The achievable machining accuracy depends upon the level of the micro-engineering, and the today's accuracy targets are dimensional tolerances in the order of 10nm and surface roughness in the order of 1nm. Such requirements cannot be satisfied by the conventional machining processes. Single point diamond turning is the one of new techniques which can produce the parts with such accuracy limits. The aims of this thesis are to get a better understanding of the complex cutting process with a diamond tool and, consequently, to develope a predicting model of a turned surface profile. In order to predict the turned surface profile, a numerical model has been developed. By means of this model, the influence of the operational settings-the material properties of the workpiece, the geometry of the cutting tool and the dynamic behaviour of the lathe-and their influences via the cutting forces upon the surface roughness have been estimated.
Identifying highly discriminating genes is a critical step in tumor recognition tasks based on microarray gene expression profile data and machine learning. Gene selection based on tree models has been the subject of several studies. However, these methods are based on a single-tree model, often not robust to ultra-highdimensional microarray datasets, resulting in the loss of useful information and unsatisfactory classification accuracy. Motivated by the limitations of single-tree-based gene selection, in this study, ensemble gene selection methods based on multiple-tree models were studied to improve the classification performance of tumor identification. Specifically, we selected the three most representative tree models: ID3, random forest, and gradient boosting decision tree. Each tree model selects top-n genes from the microarray dataset based on its intrinsic mechanism. Subsequently, three ensemble gene selection methods were investigated, namely multipletree model intersection, multiple-tree module union, and multiple-tree module cross-union, were investigated. Experimental results on five benchmark public microarray gene expression datasets proved that the multiple tree module union is significantly superior to gene selection based on a single tree model and other competitive gene selection methods in classification accuracy.

The evaluation of source potential and sink strength is the generally large and laborious sample size required to adequately assess anyone of the parameters in field-grown sweetpotato. For this purpose we used the rooted single-leaf cuttings with petioles, because the source and sink organs are restricted in this system. The rooted single-leaf cutting of sweetpotato provides a unique source-sink model system, and is established within about 50 days after planting. In this study, the sink potential of sweetpotato tubers was examined based on the expression of genes for starch synthesis (AGPase) and modification (SBEII and GBSSI) in single rooted leaf plant. The gene expression patterns of GBSSI, SBEII and AGPase at various developmental stages and in different types of root tissues presented. These results suggest that the rooted single-rooted method can be used an ideal model system to study physiological and biochemical mechanisms in sweetpotato.
