In this paper, we propose the rapid implementation of a 3-dimensional (3D) facial reconstruction from a single frontal face image and introduce a design for its application on a mobile device. The proposed system can effectively reconstruct human faces in 3D using an approach robust to lighting conditions, and a fast method based on a Canonical Correlation Analysis (CCA) algorithm to estimate the depth. The reconstruction system is built by first creating 3D facial mapping from a personal identity vector of a face image. This mapping is then applied to real-world images captured with a built-in camera on a mobile device to form the corresponding 3D depth information. Finally, the facial texture from the face image is extracted and added to the reconstruction results. Experiments with an Android phone show that the implementation of this system as an Android application performs well. The advantage of the proposed method is an easy 3D reconstruction of almost all facial images captured in the real world with a fast computation. This has been clearly demonstrated in the Android application, which requires only a short time to reconstruct the 3D depth map.
This paper suggests a navigation information display system that is based on augmented reality technology. A navigator always has to confirm the information from marine electronic navigation devices and then compare it with the view of targets outside the windows. This "head down" posture causes discomfort and sometimes near accidents such as collisions or missing objects, because he or she cannot keep an eye on the front view of the windows. Augmented reality can display both virtual and real information in a single display. Therefore, we attempted to adapt AR technology to assist navigators. To analyze the outside view of the bridge window, various computer image processing techniques are required because the sea surface has many noises that disturb computer image processing for object detection, such as waves, wakes, light reflection, and so on. In this study, we investigated an analysis module to extract navigational information from images that are captured by a CCTV camera, and we validated our prototype.

On poly and single crystalline Cu substrates, the graphene was synthesized by chemical vapor deposition(CVD). Optical microscopic images which were not possible to show the detailed characterization of graphene growth were adjusted and analyzed using image analyzing software. As a result it was possible to show the detailed growth mechanism of graphene by utilizing the image analysis. Nucleation of graphene on Cu grain boundary and its growth behavior into Cu grain are shown. In addition, the movement of graphene grain boundary interacting with Cu grain boundary and pinholes during growth was illustrated in detail, and the cause and result are discussed as a result of those interactions.

In this paper, the developed trunk cargo unloading automation system is introduced, and the RGB-D sensor-based box loading situation recognition method and unloading plan applied to this system are suggested. First of all, it is necessary to recognize the position of the box in a truck. To do this, we first apply CNN-based YOLO, which can recognize objects in RGB images in real-time. Then, the normal vector of the center of the box is obtained using the depth image to reduce misrecognition in parts other than the box, and the inner wall of the truck in an image is removed. And a method of classifying the layers of the boxes according to the distance using the recognized depth information of the boxes is suggested. Given the coordinates of the boxes on the nearest layer, a method of generating the optimal path to take out the boxes the fastest using this information is introduced. In addition, kinematic analysis is performed to move the conveyor to the position of the box to be taken out of the truck, and kinematic analysis is also performed to control the robot arm that takes out the boxes. Finally, the effectiveness of the developed system and algorithm through a test bed is proved.
In this study, in order to evaluate the yield of bubble by ultrasonic cavitation in HIFU sonication, the bubble image analysis was performed. The changing phenomenon of cavitation effect according to the sonication condition was discussed by analyzing the bubble image. Especially the appearance of bubble cloud, the size of micro-bubble, and the yield of bubble were considered. The 500 KHz and 1.1 MHz concave type ultrasonic transducers were used for HIFU sonication. Computer controlled digital camera was used to obtain the bubble image, and the binary image processing(binarization coefficient : 0.15) was performed to analyze them. In results of 500 KHz and 1.1 MHz transducer, the area of bubble cloud was increased in proportion to the rise in sonication intensity($R^2$ : 0.7031 and 0.811). The mean size of single microbubble was measured as 98.18 um in 500 KHz sonication, and 63.38 um in 1.1 MHz sonication. In addition, the amount of produced bubble was increased in proportion to sonication intensity. Through the result of this study and further study for variable image processing method, the quantitative evaluation of ultrasonic cavitation effects in HIFU operation could be possible with the linearity associated with the sonication conditions.

The growth of the older population is expected to further increase social problems associated with population aging, such as isolation, poverty, and depression. The emerging issues associated with the older population are also expected to provide further momentum on studies about the dwelling environment as factors that ensure the health of older people as well as improve their quality of life. Therefore, approaches for explaining the issues of the older age group should be diversified using a variety of factors and appropriate analytic tools. Studies on measuring depression have principally focused on assessing an objective self-report questionnaire, usually in a highly structured, textual form which may not reflect the cognitive impairment of older adults. The aim of this study was to define and measure dwelling depression among older adults in Korea. There are two specific hypotheses in this study as follows: (a) there will be statistically significant relationships with dwelling dissatisfaction and depression, and (b) dwelling depression tools containing text and images will be, respectively, assessment tools that have a good construct with content validity and reliability. In the first experiment, to define and measure dwelling depression, 301 people over 65 years old living in single and two-person households were surveyed using a text-based dwelling depression questionnaires from September 1-30, 2017. In the second experiment, to examine whether the projective image questionnaire could serve as a suitable replacement for the text-based questionnaires, the same participants were surveyed from January 22 to February 2, 2018. The results show that depression has a close correlation with dwelling dissatisfaction. In addition, the geriatric dwelling depression index (GDDI) based on the projective image was refined. Additionally, the projective image questionnaire has a close correlation with the text-based questionnaire. Finally, through ROC curve analysis, it was found that the projective image questionnaire can accurately predict a depression group. To this end, this preliminary study examined the validity of the projective image questionnaire in older adults to make this instrument feasible for older populations and to contribute to a profound understanding of geriatric depression due to the living environment. We hope they will provide a basis for further research on psychological diagnoses using projective images.
Today's commercial high resolution satellite imagery such as IKONOS and QuickBird, offers the potential to extract useful spatial information for geographical database construction and GIS applications. Extraction of 3D building information from high resolution satellite imagery is one of the most active research topics. There have been many previous works to extract 3D information based on stereo analysis, including sensor modelling. Practically, it is not easy to obtain stereo high resolution satellite images. On single image performance, most studies applied the roof-bottom points or shadow length extracted manually to sensor models with DEM. It is not suitable to apply these algorithms for dense buildings. We aim to extract 3D building information from a single satellite image in a simple and practical way. To measure as many buildings as possible, in this paper, we suggested a new way to extract building height by triangular vector structure that consists of a building bottom point, its corresponding roof point and a shadow end point. The proposed method could increase the number of measurable building, and decrease the digitizing error and the computation efficiency.

This paper presents comparison and analysis of various CFA patterns which are used in single sensor digital camera. There are several patterns which are already used, however, images are sometimes darker or brighter than what human see in real life. Also, images show some noise and blurring. To overcome this problems, many studies on the patterns have been discussed. We carry out experiment with seven patterns including the Bayer pattern. The bilinear method is selected for a interpolation method. The experimental result indicates that image quality is not affected by individual patterns and each pattern requires its own interpolation method.

The traditional block-based motion compensation methods in frame rate up-conversion (FRUC) only use a single uniquely motion vector field. However, there will always be some mistakes in the motion vector field whether the advanced motion estimation (ME) and motion vector analysis (MA) algorithms are performed or not. Once the motion vector field has many mistakes, the quality of the interpolated frame is severely affected. In order to solve the problem, this paper proposes a novel joint overlapped block motion compensation method (8J-OBMC) which adopts motion vectors of the interpolated block and its 8-neighbor blocks to jointly interpolate the target block. Since the smoothness of motion filed makes the motion vectors of 8-neighbor blocks around the interpolated block quite close to the true motion vector of the interpolated block, the proposed compensation algorithm has the better fault-tolerant capability than traditional ones. Besides, the annoying blocking artifacts can also be effectively suppressed by using overlapped blocks. Experimental results show that the proposed method is not only robust to motion vectors estimated wrongly, but also can to reduce blocking artifacts in comparison with existing popular compensation methods.
In this paper, the shadow detection and reconstruction method are proposed using intrinsic image, which does not change the essential characteristics under the influence of various illuminance, and multi-scale gamma correction. The shadow detection was estimated by the pixel change information between a grayscale and an intrinsic image of the color image, and the brightness of the image were adjusted by gamma correction in the shadow restoration process. Multi-scale gamma correction is performed for each channel of a color image due to the fact that the saturation can be changed by nonlinear adjustment to individual pixel values. Multi-scale gamma values are estimated based on the information of the crossed edge between shadows and non-shadowed regions in the color image, as a result, the shadows are reconstructed by correcting different region features with multi-scale gamma values. Experimental results show that the proposed method effectively reconstructs shadows in a single natural image.
