Experiments were carried out to obtain the effects of nozzle configuration and jet to jet spacing on the heat transfer characteristics of single line of circular water jets impinging on a constant heat flux plane surface. The nozzle configurations are Cone type, Reverse cone type and Vertical circular type, and the nozzle arrays are single jet(nozzle dia. 8 mm), 1 row of 3 jets and 1 row of 5 jets. Jet velocities ranging from 3m/s to 8m/s were investigated for the nozzle to target plate spacing of 80 mm. For the Cone and Reverse cone type nozzle arrays, the average Nusselt number of 1 row of 5 jets was larger than that of 1 row of 3 jets at Re$_{D}$<45000, but that of 1 row of 3 jets was larger than that of 1 row of 5 jets at $Reo\le45000$. For the Vertical circular type nozzle, however, the average Nusselt number of 1 row of 3 jets was larger than that of 1 row of 5 jets at all jet velocities. In the condition of fixed mass flow rates, the maximum heat transfer augmentation was obtained for 1 row of 5 jets and was over 2 times larger than that of the single jet for all nozzle configurations. The nozzle configurations that produce the maximum average Nusselt number are as follows: For 1 row of 3 jets, the Vertical circular type at $Reo\le45000$ and the Reverse cone type at $Reo\le45000$. But, they are the Reverse cone type at Re$_{D}$<55000 and the Vertical circular type at$Reo\le55000$ for 1 row of 5 jets.
The interaction of hydrogen with ZnO single crystal surfaces, ZnO (0001), ZnO (000-1), and ZnO (10-10) has been investigated using temperature programmed desorption (TPD) and X-ray photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) techniques. When the ZnO single crystal surfaces are exposed to atomic hydrogen at 200 K, all three surfaces show hydrogen desorption at 450 K. ZnO (0001) surface shows hydrogen desorption feature at ~260 K as the hydrogen exposure is increased. The ZnO (10-10) surface shows low-temperature desorption feature first and the high-temperature desorption feature appears as the hydrogen exposure increases. The ZnO (000-1) surface does not show any lower temperature hydrogen desorption. We will report the adsorption configuration of hydrogen atoms on ZnO single crystal surfaces with different surfaces structures.
Passive microwave remote sensing technique have shown great potential for mon monitoring regional/global surface soil moisture. Given a single measurement at dual polarization/single frequency/single view angle, a strategic approach to artificially generating multiple microwave brightness temperatures is presented. And then the statistically generated microwave brightness temperature data are applied to the inverse algorithm, which mainly relies on a physically based microwave emission model and an advanced single-criterion multi-parameter optimization technique, to simultaneously retrieve soil moisture and vegetation characteristics. . The procedure is tested with dual polarized Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission Microwave Imager (TRMM/TMI) over two different cover sites in Oklahoma and Beltsville field experimental data. The retrieval results are analyzed and show excellent performance.

We have developed a new type of transflective liquid crystal display (LCD) with a single cell gap and a single LC mode. In our transflective configuration, a single LC mode of a 60$^{\circ}$ twisted nematic LC was used for both transmissive and reflective applications. The measured electro-optic characteristics of our transflective LC cell agree well with numerical simulation results. Moreover, the transmittance was found to show similar behavior to the reflectance.
Distribution Automation System(DAS) is designed to improve operational efficiency by acquisition and control of remote data using its components such as central computation units, communication network and feeder remote terminal units. A conventional human machine interface of the DAS adopts a schematic diagram which is made by drawing power equipments on the geographic information system map. The single line diagram is more useful than the schematic diagram for the main tasks of distribution system operation such as protective relay coordination, service restoration and loss minimization. Since the configuration of the distribution line is changed according to the relocation of the open tie switches, the auto-drawing algorithm based on the connection between the sections and the switches is an essential technique. This paper proposes a new auto-drawing algorithm for a single line diagram of distribution systems based on tertiary tree and collision avoidance method. The feasibility of the proposed algorithm has been testified for various cases using practical distribution system with 12 feeders.
An MMIC single-balanced upconverting mixer for PCS application has been successfully developed using an MMIC process employed by 1 .mu. ion implanted GaAs MESFET and passive lumped elements consisting of spiral inductor, Si3N4 MIM capacitors and NiCr resistors. The configuration of the mixer presented in this paper is two balanced cascode FET mixers with common-source self-bias circuits for single power supply operation. The dimension of the fabricated circuit including two active baluns intermodulation characteristic with two-tone excitation are also measured, showing -28.17 dBc at IF power of -30 dBm.
This paper proposes a stand alone type single-phase fuel cells micro-source with a voltage sag compensator for compensating the ac output voltage variations (sag or swell) of micro-source. The proposed micro-source is consist of a PEM(polymer electrolyte membrane) fuel cells simulator, a full bridge de converter, a 60Hz PWM(pulse width modulation) VSI(voltage source inverter), and a voltage sag compensator. Voltage sag compensator is similar to the configuration of hybrid series active power filter, and it is directly connected to micro-source through the injection transformer. Compensation algorithm of a voltage sag compensator adopts a single phase p-q theory. Effectiveness of the proposed the system is verified by the PSIM(power electronics simulation tool) simulation in the steady state and transient state which the proposed system is able to simultaneously compensate the harmonic current and source voltage sag or swell.
SVL is installed at underground transmission system to protect cables and insulation joint-box from overvoltages caused by lightning, switching, and line-to-ground fault. Domestic underground power system adopts cross bonding type to reduce the induced voltage at sheath, but single-point bonding is required depending the system installation configuration. SVL can be easily broken by overvoltages induced at joint-box because single-point bonding has uneffective system structure to extract fault current. ANSI/IEEE recommends Parallel Ground Continuity Conductor(PGCC) to prevent SVL breakdown. In this paper, EMTP simulation is performed to analyze effects on SVL under PGCC installation when single-line-to-ground fault occurs. The result shows that PGCC and short single-point bonding distance can reduce overvoltages at SVL.
This paper presents a power supply for gate drivers, which uses a magnetic resonance wireless power transfer system. Unlike other methods where multiple antennas are used to supply power for the gate drivers, the proposed method uses a single antenna in an insulated receiver to make multiple mutually isolated power supplies. The power transmitted via single antenna is distributed to multiple power supplies for gate drivers through resonant capacitors connected in parallel that also block DC bias. This approach has many advantages over other methods, where each gate driver needs to be supplied with power using multiple receiver antennas. The proposed method will therefore lead to a reduction in production costs and circuit area. Because the proposed circuit uses a high resonance frequency of 6.78 MHz, it is possible to implement a transmitter and a receiver using a small-sized spiral printed-circuit-board-type antenna. This paper used a single phase-leg circuit configuration to experimentally verify the performance characteristics of the proposed method.
