황사의 오염원분류포 개발을 위한 개별입자분석 (Individual Particle Analysis for Developing a Source Profile of Yellow Sands)

  • To quantitatively estimate mass contribution of long-range transported yellow sand, their sources should be separated independently from various local soil sources having similar elemental compositions. While it is difficult to estimate total mass loadings of pure yellow sand by traditional bulk analysis, it can be clearly solved by an particle-by-particle analysis. To perform this study, two yellow sand samples and three local soil samples were collected by a mini-volume sampler. These samples were three analyzed using a scanning electron microscope(SEM) equipped with an energy dispersive x-ray analyser (EDX) was used to obtain basic chemical information of individual yellow san particles. A total of 19 elements in a single particle were measured to develop a source profile with newly created homogeneous particle classes (HPCs) as chemical variables. The present study showed that the yellow sand samples as well as three local soil samples were characterized with reasonably well created HPCs. Finally the mass fraction of each HPC in each sample was calculated and then compared each other.

  • Low-Z particle electron probe X-ray microanalysis (low-Z particle EPMA) was applied to characterize aerosol particles collected at Gosan in Jeju island during an IOP (intensive observation period) for an international ACE-Asia project in April, 2001. Various types of atmospheric particles such as organics, carbon-rich, aluminosilicates, silicon oxide, sodium nitrate, sodium chloride, and ammonium sulfate were observed. The reacted sea salt particles such as sodium nitrate were the most abundantly encountered, but original sea salt particles were rarely observed. Since the Low-Z particle EPMA can provide quantitative information on the chemical composition of aerosol particles, many different particle types on the basis of their chemical compositions were observed and identified. In this study, it is demonstrated that the Low-Z particle EPMA can provide detailed information on the chemical compositions for the aerosol particles collected for six consecutive days in April, 2001, at Gosan super-site.

Optimum shape and process design of single rotor equipment for its mixing performance using finite volume method

  • We numerically analyzed flow characteristics of the polymer melt in the screw equipment using a proper modeling and investigated design parameters which have influence on the mixing performance as the capability of the screw equipment. We considered the non-Newtonian and non-isothermal flow in a single rotor equipment to investigate the mixing performance with respect to screw dimensions as shape parameter of the single rotor equipment and screw speed as process parameter. We used Bird-Carreau-Yasuda model as a viscous model of the polymer melt and the particle tracking method to investigate the mixing performance in the screw equipment and considered four mixing performance indexes: residence time distribution, deformation rate, total strain and particle standard deviation as a new mixing performance index. We compared these indexes to determine design parameters and object function. On basis of the analysis results, we carried out the optimal design by using the response surface method and design of experiments. In conclusion, the differences of results between the optimal value and numerical analysis are about 5.0%.

Physicochemical Characteristics of Single Asian Dust Storm Particles

  • For the detailed characterization of atmospheric aerosol, the analysis of single particle is highly valuable. In this study, to investigate the characteristics of single Asian dust storm particles, scanning electron microscope(SEM) coupled with and energy dispersive X-ray microanalyzer(EDX) and micro-PIXE were applied. Sampling was performed at Kyoto University located in Kyoto, Japan, in spring of 1999. Mass concentration during Asian dust storm events was higher roughly 3∼5 times than measured in the season of the highest concentration. Single particles were generally sharp-edged and irregular in shape and contained mostly crustal elements. Significant amount of S in coarse fraction was detected in individual particles. A large particles in coarse fraction existed as the mixture of soil components and S. A good agreement between the result of SEM-EDX analysis and that iof micro-PIXE analysis was obtained in this study.

  • A single particle analytical technique, called low-Z electron probe X-ray microanalysis (low-Z EPMA) was applied to characterize atmospheric particles collected in Busan, Korea, over a daytime period in Dec. 2001. The ability to quantitatively analyze the low-Z elements, such as C, N, and 0, in microscopic volume enables the low-Z EPMA to specify the chemical composition of individual atmospheric particle. Various types of atmospheric particles such as organics, carbon-rich, aluminosilicates, silicon oxide, calcium carbonate, iron oxide, sodium chloride, sodium nitrate, ammonium sulfate, and titanium oxide were identified. In the sample collected in Busan, sodium nitrate particles produced as a result of the reaction between sea salt and nitrogen oxides in the atmosphere were most abundantly encountered both in the coarse and fine fractions. On the contrary, original sea salt particles were rarely observed. The fact that most of the carbonaceous particles were distributed in the fine fraction implies that their origin is anthropogenic.

  • A single particle analytical technique, named low-Z particle electron probe X-ray microanalysis (EPMA), was applied to characterize samples collected at a subway station and ambient samples in Seoul. According to their chemical composition, many distinctive particle types were identified. For samples collected at the subway station platform, the major chemical species are carbon-rich, organic, aluminosilicates (AlSi), AlSi/C, AlSi/$CaCO_{3},\;CaCO_{3},\;SiO_{2},\;and\;Fe_{2}O_{3}$. For outdoor samples, carbon-rich, organic, AlSi, $CaCO_{3},\;SiO_{2},\;NaNO_{3},\;(Na,Mg)NO_{3},\;Na(CO_{3},NO_{3},SO_{4}),\;and\;(NH_{4})_2SO_4$, are abundantly encountered. Samples collected at the subway station show very high contents of $Fe_{2}O_{3}$, both in coarse and fine fractions, which come from brake block, subway train wheel, electric contact materials, etc. It is demonstrated that the single-particle characterization using this low-Z particle EPMA technique provided detailed information on various types of chemical species in indoor and outdoor samples.

  • A single particle analytical technique, named low-Z particle electron probe X-ray microanalysis, was applied to characterize four samples collected at an underground shopping area connected to Dongdeamun subway station, in January and May 2006. Based on the analysis of their chemical compositions of the samples, many distinctive particle types are identified and the major chemical species are observed to be soil-derived particles, iron-containing particles. sulfates. nitrates, and carbonaceous particles. which are encountered both in coarse and fine fractions. Carbonaceous particles exist in carbon-rich and organic. Soil derived particles such as aluminosilicates, AlSi/C, $CaCO_3\;and\;SiO_2$ are more frequently encountered in spring samples than winter samples. Nitrate- and sulfate-con taming particles are more frequently encountered in winter samples, and those nitrate- and sulfate-containing particles mostly exist in the chemical forms of $Ca(CO_3,\;NO_3),\;Ca(NO_3,\;SO_4),\;(Na,\;Mg)NO_3\;and\;(Mg,\;Na)(NO_3,\;SO_4)$. Fe-containing particles which came from nearby subway platform are in the range of about 10% relative abundances for all the samples. It is observed that nitrate- and sulfate-containing particles and carbonaceous particles are much more frequently encountered in indoor aerosol samples than in outdoor aerosols, implying that $NO_x,\;SO_x$, and VOCs at the underground shopping area were more partitioned into aerosol phase.

마이크로파 플라즈마 토치를 이용한 에어로졸 입자 분석 (Aerosol Particle Analysis Using Microwave Plasma Torch)

  • 입자의 화학적 성분을 제공하는 동시에 감도가 높고, 경제적이며, 공간을 덜 차지하는 입자 수 측정 시스템을 개 발하였다. 이 시스템은 마이크로파 플라즈마 토치를 이용하여 원자를 들뜬 상태로 만든 후 생성된 발광을 측정한다. 하나 의 입자로부터 생성된 발광의 파장으로부터 입자에 존재하는 원소를 확인할 수 있다. 발광의 세기로부터 입자의 화학적 성분뿐 아니라 입자의 크기 또한 측정할 수 있다. 장기적으로 이 시스템은 휴대가 가능하도록 만들어 현장에서 실시간으 로 대기에 존재하는 낮은 농도의 에어로졸 입자를 분석하는데 쓰일 수 있다.

  • In this paper, SAW devices are fabricated using various IDT shape(Single/Double) to check an effect of the IDT on SAW device. And based on theory of a particle velocity moved by SAW and IDT, a particle velocity is measured and calculated. Depend on insert power, a particle velocity using Single-IDT SAW device is about two times bigger than Double-IDT SAW device and it's almost same with a theoretical different.

고대 먹의 특성 분석 (Analysis of Characterization on Ancient Ink Stick)

  • 본 연구에서는 고대 먹의 과학적이고 체계적인 분석을 통해 선조들의 조묵방법 및 기술을 파악하는 것이 연구의 목적이다. 고목재와 고문서의 묵서부의 먹을 분석한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 고목재(창덕궁 신선원전 적심)를 연륜연대분석한 결과 1899년에 벌채된 것으로 나타났으며, 따라서 고목재에 씌어진 먹의 연대를 추정할 수가 있었다. 고대 먹 원료인 그을음의 단일입자크기는 고목재의 경우 평균 107nm로 가장 크게 분석되었고, 12개의 고문서의 경우 38~86nm범위를 나타냈다. 응집체입자크기 분석 결과 고목재의 경우 평균 370nm로 단일입자크기와 같이 가장 크게 분석되었으며, 고문서의 경우 평균 206~318nm로 분석되었고, 단일입자크기와 응집체입자크기 간에는 같은 경향의 분포를 나타내었다. 단일입자크기와 응집체입자크기로 그을음의 원료를 분석할 수가 있을 것으로 생각되었다. 고목재와 고문서 묵서부분의 박편상먹의 적외선 및 라만 분광분석에서는 목재나 종이의 간섭으로 먹 입자의 스펙트럼을 얻을 수 없었다. 고목재에서 분리한 분말먹의 라만 분광분석에서는 현대 송연 그을음과 유사한 라만 스펙트럼패턴을 보여, 송연먹으로 추정할 수 있었다.
