Extensive investigation on silicon based thin film reveals a wide range of film characteristics, from low optical gap to high optical gap, from amorphous to micro-crystalline silicon etc. Fabrication of single junction, tandem and triple junction solar cell with suitable materials, indicate that fabrication of solar cell of a relatively moderate efficiency is possible with a better light induced stability. Due to these investigations, various competing materials like wide band gap silicon carbide and silicon oxide, low band gap micro-crystalline silicon and silicon germanium etc were also prepared and applied to the solar cells. Such a multi-junction solar cell can be a technologically promising photo-voltaic device, as the external quantum efficiency of such a cell covers a wider spectral range.
We have studied a single gap transflective liquid crystal display (LCD) associated with in-plane switching (IPS) mode. In the transmissive IPS cell, the transmittance of electrodes and above electrodes is different, that is, the degree of rotation of the LC director between electrodes and above electrodes is 45 $^{\circ}$ and 22.5 $^{\circ}$ , respectively. Utilizing the different rotating angle of the LC director and in-cell retarder with a quarter-wave plate used below the LC layer, the IPS transflective LCD is realized such that the area between electrodes is used as a transmissive part and the area above electrodes is used as a reflective part.
We have newly developed transflective LCDs with a specific sub-pixel and the single cell gap structure. In our structure, the overall transmittance and reflectance has become higher than typical transflective LCDs. Furthermore, it can simplify the fabrication process of the transflective LCDs.
We have demonstrated a transflective liquid crystal display (LCD) with a single cell gap in a patterned vertically aligned mode. In our configuration, the different electrode structure in a transmissive and a reflective part was suggested to compensate an optical path difference of each region. As the result, the similar electro-optic characteristic of each region was obtained which results in an enhanced performance of the device. Moreover, suggested technique can be highly effective to realize the practical transflective LCD due to the simple fabrication process.

A transflective liquid crystal displays associated with fringe field switching (FFS) mode of new concept is proposed. The device utilizes unique characteristic of the FFS mode in which the rotation angle of LC director is strongly dependent on electrode position in on state. We use the liquid crystal with negative dielectric anisotropy. Also we are look for optimized electrode size and the optimization of pixel electrode width and distance between them, the LC director could rotate about $22.5^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$ depending on electrode positions. Consequently, we get high transmittance and high reflection on the optimized electrode condition. Respectively, a high image quality transflective display with single gap and single gamma characteristics realized.

We proposed a novel single gap transflective liquid crystal display (LCD) using liquid crystal with negative dielectric anisotropy. We designed cell structure driven by fringe electric field in the transmissive (T) part and vertical electric field in the reflective (R) part. In the device, high surface pretilt angle of the LC in the R-part is achieved through polymerization of an UV curable reactive mesogen (RM) monomer at surfaces. By optimizing the parameters, a newly developed transflective display has characteristics such as single gap and single gamma curve.

A single gap transflective liquid crystal display(LCD) driven by fringe electric field in the transmissive(T) region and vertical electric field in the reflective(R) region was designed. Because the pretilt angle is formed in $53^{\circ}$ through polymerization of an UV curable reactive mesogen(RM) monomer at the surface, the effective cell retardation $(d{\Delta}n_{eff})$ value of the R region becomes half of that in the T region where the LCs are homogenously aligned. Consequently, a transflective display driven by a vertical and fringe electric field with a single cell gap and single gamma curves is realized.
Regenerative blower is suitable for hydrogen recirculation in fuel cell vehicle due to its capability of high pressure rise in single stage. Numerical models were applied to investigate inner gap leakage flow characteristics. A leakage flow in the inner gap is dominantly affected by pressure gradient. Therefore a blower with concentric channel type was suggested as one of modified models for reducing the inner gap pressure gradient. Also numerical results such as pressure rise, efficiency, leakage flow rate and torque were compared between modified and reference models. The performance of concentric channel type was improved as a result of reduced leakage flow.
