Recent investigations have pointed out that current code provisions specifying that the stiffness of reinforced concrete elements is strength independent, and therefore can be estimated prior to any strength assignment, is incorrect. A strength allocation strategy, suitable for preliminary structural design of medium height wall-frame dual systems, is presented for allocating strength in such buildings and estimating the dependable rigidities. The design process may be implemented by either the approximate continuous approach or the stiffness matrix method. It is based on the concept of the inelastic equivalent single-degree-of-freedom system which, the last few years, has been used to implement the performance based seismic design. The aforesaid strategy may also be used to determine structural configurations of minimum rotation distortion. It is shown that when the location of the modal centre of rigidity, as described in author's recent papers, is within a close distance from the mass axis the torsional response is mitigated. The methodology is illustrated in ten story building configurations, whose torsional response is examined under the ground motion of Kobe 1995, component KJM000.
In this paper, we consider a joint beamforming and jamming design to enhance physical layer security against potential multiple eavesdroppers in a multiple-input and single-output cellular broadcast channel. With perfect channel state information at the base station, we propose various design approaches to improve the secrecy of the target user. Among the proposed approaches, the combined beamforming of maximum ratio transmission and zero-forcing transmission with a combination of maximum ratio jamming and zero-forcing jamming (MRT + ZFT with MRJ + ZFJ) shows the best security performance because it utilizes the full transmit antenna dimensions for beamforming and jamming with an efficient power allocation. The simulation results show that the secrecy rate of this particular proposed approach is better than the rates of the considered conventional approaches with quality-of-service and outage probability constraints.
In this paper, secure multicasting with the help of cooperative decode-and-forward relays is considered for the case in which a source securely sends a common message to multiple destinations in the presence of a single eavesdropper. We show that the secrecy rate maximization problem in the secure multicasting scenario under an overall power constraint can be solved using semidefinite programing with semidefinite relaxation and a bisection technique. Further, a suboptimal approach using zero-forcing beamforming and linear programming based power allocation is also proposed. Numerical results illustrate the secrecy rates achieved by the proposed schemes under secure multicasting scenarios.
In this paper, we study a cross-layer and end-to-end optimization problem for the integrated wireless and wireline network that consists of one wireline core network and multiple wireless access networks. We consider joint end-to-end flow control/distribution at the transport and network layers and opportunistic scheduling at the data link and physical layers. We formulate a single stochastic optimization problem and solve it by using a dual approach and a stochastic sub-gradient algorithm. The developed algorithm can be implemented in a distributed way, vertically among communication layers and horizontally among all entities in the network, clearly showing what should be done at each layer and each entity and what parameters should be exchanged between layers and between entities. Numerical results show that our cross-layer and end-to-end optimization approach provides more efficient resource allocation than the conventional layered and separated optimization approach.

This paper presents a comprehensive survey of various artificial intelligence (AI) techniques implemented in cognitive radio engine to improve cognition capability in cognitive radio networks (CRNs). AI enables systems to solve problems by emulating human biological processes such as learning, reasoning, decision making, self-adaptation, self-organization, and self-stability. The use of AI techniques is studied in applications related to the major tasks of cognitive radio including spectrum sensing, spectrum sharing, spectrum mobility, and decision making regarding dynamic spectrum access, resource allocation, parameter adaptation, and optimization problem. The aim is to provide a single source as a survey paper to help researchers better understand the various implementations of AI approaches to different cognitive radio designs, as well as to refer interested readers to the recent AI research works done in CRNs.

In our research study, we aim at optimizing multiple load in cloud, effective resource allocation and lesser response time for the job assigned. Using Hadoop on datacenter is the best and most efficient analytical service for any corporates. To provide effective and reliable performance analytical computing interface to the client, various cloud service providers host Hadoop clusters. The previous works done by many scholars were aimed at execution of workflows on Hadoop platform which also minimizes the cost of virtual machines and other computing resources. Earlier stochastic hill climbing technique was applied for single parameter and now we are working to optimize multiple parameters in the cloud data centers with proposed heuristic hill climbing. As many users try to priorities their job simultaneously in the cluster, resource optimized workflow scheduling technique should be very reliable to complete the task assigned before the deadlines and also to optimize the usage of the resources in cloud.

The fifth generation (5G) mobile communication has an impact on the human life over the whole world, nowadays, through the artificial intelligence (AI) and the internet of things (IoT). The low latency of the 5G new radio (NR) access is implemented by the state-of-the art technologies, such as non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA). This paper investigates a practical issue that in NOMA, for the practical channel models, such as fading channel environments, the successive interference cancellation (SIC) should be performed on the stronger channel users with low power allocation. Only if the SIC is performed on the user with the stronger channel gain, NOMA performs better than orthogonal multiple access (OMA). Otherwise, NOMA performs worse than OMA. Such the superiority requirement can be easily implemented for the channel being static or slow varying, compared to the block interval time. However, most mobile channels experience fading. And symbol by symbol channel estimations and in turn each symbol time, selections of the SIC-performing user look infeasible in the practical environments. Then practically the block of symbols uses the single channel estimation, which is obtained by the training sequence at the head of the block. In this case, not all the symbol times the SIC is performed on the stronger channel user. Sometimes, we do perform the SIC on the weaker channel user; such cases, NOMA performs worse than OMA. Thus, we can say that by what percent NOMA is better than OMA. This paper calculates analytically the percentage by which NOMA performs better than OMA in the practical mobile communication systems. We show analytically that the percentage for NOMA being better than OMA is only the function of the ratio of the stronger channel gain variance to weaker. In result, not always, but almost time, NOMA could perform better than OMA.

In this paper, we propose a joint power control strategy for both the uplink and downlink transmission by considering the energy requirements of the user equipments' uplink data transmissions in data and energy integrated communication networks (DEINs). In DEINs, the base station (BS) adopts the power splitting (PS) aided simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) technique in the downlink (DL) transmissions, while the user equipments (UEs) carry out their own uplink (UL) transmissions by exploiting the energy harvested during the BS's DL transmissions. In our DEIN model, there are M UEs served by the BS in order to fulfil both of their DL and UL transmissions. The orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) technique is adopted for supporting the simultaneous transmissions of multiple UEs. Furthermore, a transmission frame is divided into N time slots in the medium access control (MAC) layer. The mathematical model is established for maximizing the sum-throughput of the UEs' DL transmissions and for ensuring their fairness during a single transmission frame T, respectively. In order to achieve these goals, in each transmission frame T, we optimally allocate the BS's power for each subcarrier and the PS factor for each UE during a specific time slot. The original optimisation problems are transformed into convex forms, which can be perfectly solved by convex optimisation theories. Our numerical results compare the optimal results by conceiving the objective of maximising the sum-throughput and those by conceiving the objective of maximising the fair-throughput. Furthermore, our numerical results also reveal the inherent tradeoff between the DL and the UL transmissions.

The performance of a tracking system is greatly increased if multiple types of sensors are combined to achieve the objective of the tracking instead of relying on single type of sensor. To conduct the multi-modal tracking, we have previously developed a multi-modal sensor-based tracking model where acoustic sensors mainly track the objects and visual sensors compensate the tracking errors [1]. In this paper, we find a network synchronization problem appearing in the developed tracking system. The problem is caused by the different location and traffic characteristics of multi-modal sensors and non-synchronized arrival of the captured sensor data at a processing server. To effectively deliver the sensor data, we propose a time-based packet aggregation algorithm where the acoustic sensor data are aggregated based on the sampling time and sent to the server. The delivered acoustic sensor data is then compensated by visual images to correct the tracking errors and such a compensation process improves the tracking accuracy in ideal case. However, in real situations, the tracking improvement from visual compensation can be severely degraded due to the aforementioned network synchronization problem, the impact of which is analyzed by simulations in this paper. To resolve the network synchronization problem, we differentiate the service level of sensor traffic based on Weight Round Robin (WRR) scheduling at the routers. The weighting factor allocated to each queue is calculated by a proposed Delay-based Weight Allocation (DWA) algorithm. From the simulations, we show the traffic differentiation model can mitigate the non-synchronization of sensor data. Finally, we analyze expected traffic behaviors of the tracking system in terms of acoustic sampling interval and visual image size.
This paper investigates the effects of changes in household structure on service demand. The structure of households in Korea has been quickly changed due to low birth rate and population aging as well as increasing women's participation in the workforce. Their consumption patterns may have been altered by the structural changes. This paper focuses on the additional demand for market services replacing household activities such as household chores and care services. First, using a 3-sector time allocation model, we theoretically analyze the mechanism that marketization of household production can lead to the expansion of service industries. Next, in order to analyze the effects of changes in household structure on consumption demand, we estimate the Engel curves according to the QUAIDS model. For empirical work, the Survey of Household Finances was used. According to the results, structural changes in Korean households, such as an increase in single-person households, a decrease in families with a spouse or children under 6 years old, and an increase in dual-earner households, have caused an increase in medical expenses, education and training costs, and expenses for household services, which are typically substitutes for household production services.
