Development of the Postal Transportation Network Simulation System (우편운송망 성능평가를 위한 시뮬레이션 시스템 개발)

  • In Postal logistics, the efficient design and operation of transportation network is very important issue. But, it is hard to operate the postal transportation network flexibly according to the change of mail volume. In Korea post, a transportation plan is pre-determined and the transportation of mail is performed through the routes in the plan. When the routes cannot transport all mail, temporary vehicles are used. In the postal transportation, it is important to make a good transportation plan and to manage the plan efficiently. But the change of transportation plan is not a simple work because hundreds of vehicles and persons are related to the plan. So, a methodology to check the effect of the change of the transportation plan in advance is required. In this paper, we develop a simulation model to evaluate the performance of a postal transportation plan. We implement the simulation model and develop an information system including user interface for managing data and simulation results. We apply our simulation model and system to the real change of transportation plan.

  • In this paper, a blackbox approach is carried out to model the nonlinear dynamic bushing model. One-axis durability test is performed to describe the mechanical behavior of typical vehicle elastomeric components. The results of the tests are used to develop an empirical bushing model with an artificial neural network. The back propagation algorithm is used to obtain the weighting factor of the neural network. Since the output for a dynamic system depends on the histories of inputs and outputs, Narendra's algorithm of ‘NARMAX’ form is employed in the neural network bushing module. A numerical example is carried out to verify the developed bushing model.

  • Weather Radar have played an important role in both precipitation observation and hydrological operations over several countries and evaluated its efficient and necessities for the developed flood management and control. This paper describe the factors influencing the design the hydrological radar network in Korea and develop Hydrological Radar Network Simulation Model (HRNSM) based on GIS and UI system. Moreover, the methodologies for geographical and hydrological feasibility analysis for radar network were provided in detail manner.

Comparison Study of O/D Estimation Methods for Building a Large-Sized Microscopic Traffic Simulation Network: Cases of Gravity Model and QUEEENSOD Method (대규모 미시교통시뮬레이션모형 구축을 위한 O/D 추정 방법 성능 비교 - 중력모형과 QUEENSOD 방법을 중심으로 -)

  • PURPOSES : The aim of this study was to compare the performance of the QUEENSOD method and the gravity model in estimating Origin-Destination (O/D) tables for a large-sized microscopic traffic simulation network. METHODS : In this study, an expressway network was simulated using the microscopic traffic simulation model, VISSIM. The gravity model and QUEENSOD method were used to estimate the O/D pairs between internal and between external zones. RESULTS: After obtaining estimations of the O/D table by using both the gravity model and the QUEENSOD method, the value of the root mean square error (RMSE) for O/D pairs between internal zones were compared. For the gravity model and the QUEENSOD method, the RMSE obtained were 386.0 and 241.2, respectively. The O/D tables estimated using both methods were then entered into the VISSIM networks and calibrated with measured travel time. The resulting estimated travel times were then compared. For the gravity model and the QUEENSOD method, the estimated travel times showed 1.16% and 0.45% deviation from the surveyed travel time, respectively. CONCLUSIONS : In building a large-sized microscopic traffic simulation network, an O/D matrix is essential in order to produce reliable analysis results. When link counts from diverse ITS facilities are available, the QUEENSOD method outperforms the gravity model.

A Study on the System Identification based on Neural Network for Modeling of 5.1. Engines (S.I. 엔진 모델링을 위한 신경회로망 기반의 시스템 식별에 관한 연구)

  • This study presents the process of the continuous-time system identification for unknown nonlinear systems. The Radial Basis Function(RBF) error filtering identification model is introduced at first. This identification scheme includes RBF network to approximate unknown function of nonlinear system which is structured by affine form. The neural network is trained by the adaptive law based on Lyapunov synthesis method. The identification scheme is applied to engine and the performance of RBF error filtering Identification model is verified by the simulation with a three-state engine model. The simulation results have revealed that the values of the estimated function show favorable agreement with the real values of the engine model. The introduced identification scheme can be effectively applied to model-based nonlinear control.

Modeling and assessment of VWNN for signal processing of structural systems

  • This study aimed to develop a model to accurately predict the acceleration of structural systems during an earthquake. The acceleration and applied force of a structure were measured at current time step and the velocity and displacement were estimated through linear integration. These data were used as input to predict the structural acceleration at next time step. The computation tool used was the Volterra/Wiener neural network (VWNN) which contained the mathematical model to predict the acceleration. For alleviating problems of relatively large-dimensional and nonlinear systems, the VWNN model was utilized as the signal processing tool, including the Taylor series components in the input nodes of the neural network. The number of the intermediate layer nodes in the neural network model, containing the training and simulation stage, was evaluated and optimized. Discussions on the influences of the gradient descent with adaptive learning rate algorithm and the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm, both for determining the network weights, on prediction errors were provided. During the simulation stage, different earthquake excitations were tested with the optimized settings acquired from the training stage to find out which of the algorithms would result in the smallest error, to determine a proper simulation model.

  • Discrete event modeling is finding ever more application to anlysis and design of complex manufacturing, communication, computer systems, etc. This paper shows how packet network systems may be advantageously represented as DEVS (Discrete Event System Specification) models by employing System Entity structure / Model base (SES/MB) framework developed by Zeigler. DEVS models and network structure representations support a strong basis for performance analysis of packet network systems. This approach is illustated in a typical packet network example with several routing strategies.

  • This paper describes a lateral guidance system of an autonomous vehicle, using a neural network model of magneto-resistive sensor and magnetic fields. The model equation was compared with experimental sensing data. We found that the experimental result has a negligible difference from the modeling equation result. We verified that the modeling equation can be used in simulations. As the neural network controller acquires magnetic field values(B$\_$x/, B$\_$y/, B$\_$z/) from the three-axis, the controller outputs a steering angle. The controller uses the back-propagation algorithms of neural network. The learning pattern acquisition was obtained using computer simulation, which is more exact than human driving. The simulation program was developed in order to verify the acquisition of the teaming pattern, teaming itself, and the adequacy of the design controller. The performance of the controller can be verified through simulation. The real autonomous electric vehicle using neural network controller verified good results.

  • While demands for express couriers service are rapidly increasing due to recent progress of electronic commerce, express courier service companies are struggling to take a larger market share through ongoing improvement in their service processes. Cut-off time is the time limit that all orders delivered before the limit are guaranteed for the delivery within the very next day. Extending cut-off time for express service centers can provide the express company with increase of total sales, but it may also cause increasing the possibility not to satisfy customer needs due to work delay in the consolidation terminal. We develop a design model for express courier service network based on a recursive optimization/simulation procedure. With the optimization model, we seek key design parameters such as the cut-off time for express service centers and the capacity of the consolidation terminal maximizing total sales profit while satisfying the desired level of performances. With the simulation model, we consider the dynamic nature of the network and obtain relationships between the design parameters and the performance measures with the multiple linear regression. The validity of the model is examined with an example.

  • This paper investigates the performance characteristics of the data link layer of the 1996 version of IEC/ISA fieldbus which is developed as internatioal standard of fieldbus. A discrete-event simulation model of the data link layer of IEC/ISA fieldbus is developed. Using the simulation model, this paper identifies the network parameters that influence the performance of prioritys scheme and real-time data transmission, and analyzes the delay performance of IEC/ISA fieldbus with respect to the change of network parameters. The simulation model also integrates continuous-time simulation model of a control system as application process. Using the integrated simulation model, this study investigates the effect of network-induced delay on the performance of control system. Since the simulation model developed in this study can predict the network performance, it will be effectively utilized in the design phase of control and automation systems that adopt the IEC/ISA fieldbus.
