A greenhouse equipped with latent heat storage system was built to obtain various thermal properties, such as greenhouse air temperature, soil surface temperature, energy flow in latent heat storage, etc., which could be used in validation of greenhouse numerical model to be developed in this study. This numerical model expressed with Newton-Raphson method was programed by C-language and utilized to simulate greenhouse thermal behavior. Greenhouse air temperature and soil surface temperature predicted by the greenhouse model developed in this study were very close to the measured data obtained through almost 3 years of experiment. Therefore, it is concluded that the greenhouse model developed and verified by measured data could be utilized for simulating various thermal behaviors of greenhouses equipped with latent heat storage system to be used for energy saving purposes.
The numerical procedure has been developed for simulating incompressible viscous flow around a turbine stage with rotor-stator interaction. This study solves 2-D unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations on a non-orthogonal curvilinear coordinate system. The Marker-and-Cell concept is applied to efficiently solve continuity equation. To impose an accurate boundary condition, O-H multiblocked grid system is generated. O-type grid and H-type grid is generated near and outer rotor-stator The cubic-spline interpolation is applied to handle a relative motion of a rotor to the stator. Turbulent flows have been modeled by the Baldwin- Lomax turbulent model. To validate present procedure, the time averaged pressure coefficients around the rotor and stator are compared with experiment and a good agreement obtained.
In this paper, we propose a new deformable model based on non-linear elasticity, anisotropic behavior and the finite element method and developed the high-speed controller for haptic control. The proposed controller is based on the PCI/FPGA technology, which can calculate the real position and transmit the force data to device rapidly, The haptic system is composed of 6DOF force display device, high-speed controller and HIR library for 3D graphic deformation algorithm & haptic rendering algorithm. The developed system will be used on constructing the dynamical virtual environment. we demonstrate the relevance of this approach for the real-time simulating deformations of elastic objects. To show the efficiency of our system, we designed simulation program of force-reflecting, As the result of the experiment, we found that the controller has much higher resolution than some other controllers.
As the brightness of LED is getting higher, the lighting products using LED are actively being developed. On this study, we researched the characteristics and changes caused by the optical arrangement of LED light source, which applies to illumination by using the optical design programme. The changes were estimated by simulating regarding the arrangement of each form and measurement distance. As a result of the experiment. Intensity increased by 1 and Illuminance increased by around 10, as It changed a triangle into a pentagon. To realize white light, RGBG LED formation was the most efficient in case of square arrangement.

Field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) have received much attention from the nuclear industry as an alternative platform to programmable logic controllers for digital instrumentation and control. The software aspect of FPGA development consists of several steps of synthesis and refinement, and also requires verification activities, such as simulations that are performed individually at each step. This study proposed an integrated software-testing framework for simulating all artifacts of the FPGA software development simultaneously and evaluating whether all artifacts work correctly using common oracle programs. This method also generates a massive number of meaningful simulation scenarios that reflect reactor shutdown logics. The experiment, which was performed on two FPGA software implementations, showed that it can dramatically save both time and costs.
With the aim to provide better predication about fracture behavior, a numerical simulating strategy based on the rigid spring model is proposed for reinforced concrete (RC) structures in this study. According to the proposed strategy, concrete is partitioned into a series of irregular rigid blocks based on the Voronoi diagram, which are connected by interface springs. Steel bars are simulated by bar elements, and the bond slip element is defined at bar element nodes to describe the interaction between reinforcement and concrete. A concrete damage evolution model based on the separation criterion is adopted to describe the weakening process of interface spring between adjacent blocks, while a nonlinear bond slip model is introduced to simulate the synergy behaviour of reinforced steel bars and concrete. In the damage evolution model of concrete, the influence of compressive stress perpendicular to the interface on the shear strength is considered. To check the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed modelling, experimental and numerical studies about a simply-supported RC beam and the two-notched concrete plates in Nooru-Mohamed's experiment are conducted, and the grid sensitivity are investigated.
Dam-break flow occurs when an elevated dam suddenly collapses, resulting in the catastrophic release of rapid and uncontrolled impounded water. This study compares laminar and turbulent closure models for simulating three-dimensional dam-break flows using OpenFOAM. The Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) model, specifically the k-ε model, is employed to capture turbulent dissipation. Two scenarios are evaluated based on a laboratory experiment and a modified multi-layered block obstacle scenario. Both models effectively represent dam-break flows, with the turbulent closure model reducing oscillations. However, excessive dissipation in turbulent models can underestimate water surface profiles. Improving numerical schemes and grid resolution enhances flow recreation, particularly near structures and during turbulence. Model stability is more significantly influenced by numerical schemes and grid refinement than the use of turbulence closure. The k-ε model's reliance on time-averaging processes poses challenges in representing dam-break profiles with pronounced discontinuities and unsteadiness. While simulating turbulence models requires extensive computational efforts, the performance improvement compared to laminar models is marginal. To achieve better representation, more advanced turbulence models like Large Eddy Simulation (LES) and Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) are recommended, necessitating small spatial and time scales. This research provides insights into the applicability of different modeling approaches for simulating dam-break flows, emphasizing the importance of accurate representation near structures and during turbulence.

In this study, the oceanic responses to given atmospheric boundary conditions are investigated using a mesoscale ocean circulation model. The numerical experiments are divided into two parts: One is, so called, spin-up experiment and the other is reproduction experiment. The spin-up experiment simulates climatic state of ocean by integrating the ocean model with upper boundary conditions of the monthly mean atmospheric climate data. In the reproduction experiment, for the reproduction of major oceanic changes around Korean Peninsula during the period of 1980-1998 (19 years), the model has been integrated under the boundary condition of the 19year monthly mean atmosphere data. The spined-up state of ocean generated from the spin-up experiment is assigned to the initial boundary condition of the reproduction experiment. In the spin-up experiment, the model properly simulates the major features of circulation structure around Korean Peninsula; such as separation of East Korean Warm Current (EKWC), formation of the polar front, cold water band associated with the small scale eddies in the East Sea, the formation of front along west coast, and the seasonal variation of circulation pattern caused by changing upwind current in the West Sea. In the reproduction experiment, the model has shown the interannual sea surface temperature variations and a warming trend of about 0.5$^{\circ}$C during the period around Korean Peninsula, as in the case of the observation. Therefore, it is concluded that the model is capable of simulating not only the mean states but also the variabilities of ocean under the given atmosphere boundary conditions.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the thermal resistance and the liquid/vapor water transfer characteristics of four waterproof and water vapor permeable coated fabrics with the ground fabric called nylon taffeta. In order to establish the experimental environment, outdoor temperature and humidity in Taegu during the last three years were examined and the experiment was performed at (1) $15^{\circ}C$, 50% R.H., (2) $20^{\circ}C$, 60% R.H., (3) $25^{\circ}C$, 65% R.H., which were the average standards in spring and fall. The test results were as follows ; 1. Among physical parameters, the thinner the thickness was, the higher the water vapor permeability was. But the porosity in thickness was not proportional to water vapor permeability linearly. 2. The thicker the thickness of specimens was and the smaller the bulk density and porosity were, the higher the thermal resistance. And the results also shown that the larger the temperature difference between the environmental temperature and the hot plate was, the more the difference of CLO values was apparent. 3. Since the contact angle of all specimens are above $90^{\circ}$, the all specimens have a good performance in waterproof. The more the specimens surface were rough, the higher the thermal resistance was. 4. According to the result of performing moisture transfer test using the simulating body skin-clothing-environment system, the humidity sensor placed in between the fabric and the environment detected the full saturation in 10 minutes after the experiment had began at $15^{\circ}C$, 50% R.H. and in 15 minutes after the experiment both at $20^{\circ}C$, 60% R.H. and at $25^{\circ}C$, 65% R.H. 5. ${\Delta}$ values of the humidity sensors placed in between the human body and the fabric and in between the fabric and the environment fluctuated repeatedly within the range of $20{\sim}40%$ at $20^{\circ}C$, 60% R.H., and $15{\sim}30%$ at $25^{\circ}C$, 65% R.H.
Recently, for the purpose of constructing artificial ecosystem, the public aquarium and experimental mesocosm systems are receiving attention. To design and establish an aquarium and mesocosm system, there is need of several materials for simulating the environment, such as sediments, rocks, and plants. Expecially for sessile mollusks, there must be proper materials to which sessile invertebrates can adhere. Nowadays, many aquariums and mesocosm systems are using dead coral skeletons for sessile mollusks. This study was proceeded to have data on the effect of dead coral skeletons on water qualities with the experiment on the environmental factors. For this purpose, I made glass tank for experiment, chose two types of dead coral skeletons imported from the Indonesia and observed the change of water qualities and decomposition efficiency of TAN (total ammonia-nitrogen), nitrite ($NO_2{^-}$) and nitrate ($NO_3{^-}$). As a result, the lager the surface area was, the more TAN, nitrite and nitrate decomposition rate increased. In addition, coral skeletons covered with crustose algae and bacteria in the tank showed faster TAN, nitrite and nitrate removal rate and stabilization. Accordingly, this experiment suggested that dead coral skeletons could be used as a sub filter for the closed system as well as an adhering plate.
