  • A simplified method is presented for the computation of eigenvalue and eigenvector derivatives associated with repeated eigenvalues. In the proposed method, adjacent eigenvectors and orthonormal conditions are used to compose an algebraic equation whose order is (n+m)x(n+m), where n is the number of coordinates and m is the number of multiplicity of the repeated eigenvalue. One algebraic equation developed can be computed eigenvalue and eigenvector derivatives simultaneously. Since the coefficient matrix of the proposed equation is symmetric and based on N-space, this method is very efficient compared to previous methods. Moreover the numerical stability of the method is guaranteed because the coefficient matrix of the proposed equation is non-singular, This method can be consistently applied to both structural systems with structural design parameters and mechanical systems with lumped design parameters. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, the finite element model of the cantilever beam and a 5-DOF mechanical system in the case of a non-proportionally damped system are considered as numerical examples. The design parameter of the cantilever beam is its width, and that of the 5-DOF mechanical system is a spring.

  • Among the various image fusion or pan-sharpening methods, those wavelet-based methods provide superior radiometric quality. However, the fusion processing is not only simple but also flexible, since many low- and high-frequency sub-bands are often produced in the wavelet domain. To address this issue, a novel DT-CWT (Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet Transform) proportional to the fusion method by a WZP (Wavelet Zero-Padding) is proposed. The proposed method produces a single high-frequency image in the spatial domain that is injected into the LRM (Low-Resolution Multispectral) image. Thus, a wavelet domain fusion can be simplified to spatial domain fusion. In addition, in the proposed DT-CWTP (DT-CWT Proportional) fusion method, it is unnecessary to decompose the LRM image by adopting WZP. The comparison indicates that the proposed fusion method is nearly five times faster than the DT-CWT with SW (Substitute-Wavelet) fusion method, meanwhile simultaneously maintaining the radiometric quality. The conducted experiments with WorldView-2 satellite images demonstrated promising results with the computation efficiency and fused image quality.

  • A numerical study of three-dimensional fluid flow and heat transfer in the metering section of a single screw extruder has been performed. The mathematical model for the screw channel is simplified by unwound channel and fixing the coordinate system to the screw. The pressure boundary and the prescribed mass flow rate conditions are imposed on the inlet and outlet, respectively. The commercial code STAR-CD based on the finite volume method is used to obtain the results of the present work. The computation of the reverse flow, which cannot be computed by the marching-type 3-D model, is performed in the present study.

  • A estimating capability of software effort, duration and cost is based on accurate size estimate of the software to be developed. A simplified function point (FP) approach to software size estimation is described, which first skip the computation step for value adjustment factor, thus directly obtaining final adjusted FP from unadjusted FP. The research seeks suitable models based on statistical regression models in the context of case study based on 783 software projects. The approach also are built for subsets of projects using new development, enhancement and re-development types.

  • A solid rocket motor has quite complex physical condition such exothermal chemical reaction in subsonic area and supersonic ex pansion in a converging-diverging nozzle. To introduce a simulation tool for compressible flow in supersonic range as well as incompressible chemical reaction zone in a whole rocket nozzle is a essential demand. Since the flow vary subsonic to super sonic, the convergence in computation becomes very low and unstable in a whole domain of rocket motor. This paper reports the 2-D Axisymmetric and simple 3-D solid propellant combustion and flow of gases in rocket motor by using a precondi tioning, shear stress turbulence modeling, AUSM(p). To simulate the simplified combustion process, Double base solid propellant is used to calculate reaction of solid propellant.

  • Recently $SF_6$ gas circuit breakers utilizing the thermal-expansion principle are increasingly used in distribution power system. Active researches and developments have been conducted to reduce the size and weight, and to improve the interrupting performance of the circuit breakers. It was first developed a programme which could show the hot gas flowing into the thermal-expansion arc chamber. This programme, using so-called FLIC method basically, adopted 'Simplified Enthalpy Arc Model' which was somewhat modified to estimate the arc quenching process. The computation by it was compared with the measured results of the pressure rise in the chamber, and both showed fairly good agreement.

  • In this paper, it is realized an image filter for a noise elimination using a recurrent neural networks with fuzzy. The proposed fuzzy neural networks structure is to converge weights and the number of iteration for a certain value by using basically recurrent neural networks structure and is simplified computation and complexity of mathematics by applying the hybrid fuzzy membership function operator. In this paper, the proposed method, the recurrent neural networks applying fuzzy which is collected a certain value, has been proved improving average 0.38dB than the conventional method, the generalied recurrent neural networks, by using PSNR. Also, a result image of the proposed method was similar to the original image than a result image of the conventional method by comparing to visual images.

  • Currently, the pin-by-pin homogenized solvers are a very active research field as they can, unlike the nodal codes, directly predict the local power, while requiring significantly less computational resources than the heterogeneous transport codes. This paper presents a recently developed pin-by-pin diffusion/SP3 solver Tortin, its spatial discretization method and the reflector treatment. Regarding the spatial discretization, it was observed that the finite difference method applied on pin-cell size mesh does not properly capture the big flux change between MOX and uranium fuel, while the nodal expansion method is more accurate but too slow. If the finite difference method is used with a finer mesh in the outer two pin rows of the fuel assembly, it increases the required computation time by only 50%, but decreases the pin power errors below 1% with respect to lattice code reference solutions. The paper further describes the coupling of Tortin with a microscopic depletion solver. Several verification tests show that the SP3 pin-by-pin solver can reproduce the heterogeneous transport solvers results with very good accuracy, even for fuel cycle depletion of very heterogeneous core employing MOX fuel or inserted control rods, while being two orders of magnitude faster.

  • In this paper, an exact analytical solution for simply supported sandwich plate which considers the permeation effect of adhesives is presented. The permeation layer is described as functionally graded material (FGM), the elastic modulus of which is assumed to be graded along the thickness following the exponential law. Based on the exact three-dimensional (3-D) elasticity theory, the solution of stresses and displacements for each layer is derived. By means of the recursive matrix method, the solution can be efficiently obtained for plates with many layers. The present solution obtained can be used as a benchmark to access other simplified solutions. The comparison study indicates that the finite element (FE) solution is close to the present one when the FGM layer in the FE model is divided into a series of homogeneous layers. However, the present method is more efficient than the FE method, with which the mesh division and computation are time-consuming. Moreover, the solution based on Kirchhoff-Love plate theory is greatly different from the present solution for thick plates. The influence of the thickness of the permeation layer on the stress and displacement fields of the sandwich plate is discussed in detail. It is indicated that the permeation layer can effectively relieve the discontinuity stress at the interface.

  • Developments of numerical methods are very important to design and analysis for a high subsonic turbine blade. In general, Analysis by experimental investigation has needed a lot of human resources and required time, indispensably, and equipments still have a limit to measure in conditions of high temperature. Rapid technological developments of CPU and integration level of memory make it possible to advance computation with almost exactly simulation so, recent developments of numerical methods are in spotlight. In the present study, the panel method, which is well-known as relatively simplified numerical method, and 2-dimensional ordinary differential Falkner-Skan equation were computed in order to analyze the outer flow, and FVM-based solid heat transfer equation, was also computed to forecast the temperature distribution of the airfoil and the turbine blade. Unstructured grid was constructed in the turbine blade, which has double cooling holes, in order to analyze the internal heat transfer. Cooling fluid was assumed as fully-developed turbulent flow and that circulated in cooling holes.
