  • This paper considers a classification of the 88 islands located at Kyong-nam area in Korea, using by examples of 12 components of the islands. By means of principal component analysis 2 principle components were extracted, which explained a total of 73.7% of the variance. Using an eigen variable criterion (λ>1), no further principle components were discussed. Principal component 1 and 2 explained 63.4% and 10.3% of the total variance respectively, The representation of the unrelated factor scores along the first and second principal axes produced a new information with respect to the classification of the islands. Based upon the representation, 88 islands were classified into 6 groups i. e. A, B, C, D, E, and F according to similarity of the components among them in this paper. The "Group F" belongs to a miscellaneous assortment that does not fit into the logical category. category.

  • Dispatching rule plays an important role in a hybrid flow shop. Finding the appropriate dispatching rule becomes more challenging when there are multiple criteria, uncertain demands, and dynamic manufacturing environment. Using a single dispatching rule for the whole shop or a set of rules based on a single criterion is not sufficient. Therefore, a multi-criteria decision making technique using 'the order preference by similarity to ideal solution' (TOPSIS) and 'analytic hierarchy process' (AHP) is presented. The proposed technique is aimed to find the most suitable set of dispatching rules under different manufacturing scenarios. A simulation based case study on a PCB manufacturing process is presented to illustrate the procedure and effectiveness of the proposed methodology.

  • This study examined the stability of cross- and box-type artificial reefs used to construct seaweed beds. Theoretical and experimental studies have clarified the Froude similitude. However, basic data needed to develop a more stable design for artificial reefs must be collected from long-term studies and analyses of sliding caused by waves. Hydraulic experiments are important for solving problems in the design and construction of artificial reefs. This study examined some design parameters for artificial reefs under wave and currents. The results showed the stability of cross- and box-type artificial reefs for constructing seaweed beds using a dimensionless parameter (the surf similarity parameter), water particle velocity, and so on. The hydraulics experiment indicated that the stability of artificial reefs differed according to their method of installation. This implies that artificial reefs should be installed after considering various environmental factors, such as wave breaking, reflection, and sediments.

  • We present a method to detect on-road vehicle using geometric invariant of feature points on side planes of the vehicle. The vehicles are assumed into a set of planes and the invariant from motion information of features on the plane segments the plane from the theory that a geometric invariant value defined by five points on a plane is preserved under a projective transform. Harris corners as a salient image point are used to give motion information with the normalized correlation centered at these points. We define a probabilistic criterion to test the similarity of invariant values between sequential frames. Experimental results using images of real road scenes are presented.

  • The optimization method based on an enhanced genetic algorithms is for multimodal function optimization in this paper. This method is consisted of two main steps. The first step is a global search step using the genetic algorithm(GA) and function assurance criterion(FAC). The belonging of an population to initial solution group is decided according to the FAC. The second step is to decide the similarity between individuals, and to research the optimum solutions by single point method in reconstructive search space. Four numerical examples are also presented in this papers to comparing with conventional methods.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the stability of the arched and fan types of artificial reefs, which provide habitats for shellfish and seaweed. According to the Froude similitude, parameters affecting the stability of the artificial reefs were analytically, experimentally studied. First, the design parameters of the artificial reefs in wave and current fields were presented. Then, using dimensionless parameters, such as the surf similarity parameter and water particle speed, the stability of the arched and fan types of artificial reefs was investigated. From the hydraulic experiments, it is shown that the stability heavily depends on the way the artificial reefs are installed. Therefore, the installation of the artificial reefs on the surf zone should be carefully executed.

  • In this paper, we develope a dispersion model based on the Generalized Langevin Model. Thomson's well-mixed condition is the well known criterion to determine particle dispersion. But, it has 'non-uniqueness problem'. To resolve this, we adopt a turbulent model which is a new approach in this field of study. Our model was greatly simplified under the self-similarity condition, leaving model only two model constants $C_{0}$ and ${\gamma}$$_{5}$ that control the dispersion and spin which measures rotational property of the Lagrangian particle trajectory. We investigated the sign of spin as well as magnitude by using the Direct Numerical Simulation. Model calculations were performed on the neutrally stable boundary layer flow. We found that spin has weak effect on the particle dispersion but it shows the significant effect on the horizontal flux compared to the zero-spin model.

  • This study proposes method to classify components in repository and retrieve them introducing the idea of domain orientation for successful reuse of components. About components of existing systems design pattern was applied to, us suggest component classification method to compare structural similarity between each component in relevant domain and criterion pattern. Component reusability and portability between platforms can be increased through classifying reusable components by function and giving their structures with diagram. Efficiency of component reuse can be raised because the most appropriate component to query and similar candidate components and provided in priority by use of E-SARM algorithm.

  • This paper discusses a reference pattern creation for a speaker-independent Korean isolated word by using the clustering. Tn this paper we permitted to top 3 clusters and created reference pattern by Minimax Criterion. The features parameter used the LPC Coefficients and Autocorrelation and simple Itakura distance measure was used to measure similarity between patterns. With word reference patterns obtained as described above the recognition rate was within one choice only $55.9\%$, two choice only $76.9\%$, three choice only $89.5\%$.

  • Edit distance metrics are widely used for many applications such as string comparison and spelling error corrections. Hamming distance is a metric for two equal length strings and Damerau-Levenshtein distance is a well-known metrics for making spelling corrections through string-to-string comparison. Previous distance metrics seems to be appropriate for alphabetic languages like English and European languages. However, the conventional edit distance criterion is not the best method for agglutinative languages like Korean. The reason is that two or more letter units make a Korean character, which is called as a syllable. This mechanism of syllable-based word construction in the Korean language causes an edit distance calculation to be inefficient. As such, we have explored a new edit distance method by using consonant normalization and the normalization factor.
