The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of mordants and dyeing method : on the dyeability and color fastness of the fabrics with the extract from Gardenia. The following results were drawn from the data obtained. 1. The wavelengths of the strongest absolution bands of Amur cork tree, Gardenia extract was 440nm respectively and the wavelengths 440-460nm after the mordants were added in the color extracts(The bands of Gardenia extract shifts to short wavelength side as pH increased.). In all cases, the abosorbancies were increased. 2. The main color substances in extract from Gardenia were expected to be cretin respectively by spectrophotometric and HPLC studies. 3. As to the concentration of color extract for dyeing, about 20g/L was the optimum concentration to dye silk and cotton fabrics with extract. 4. For silk and cotton fabrics dyeing with Gardenia extract, $SnCl_2$ was the best mordants. The K/S values of dyed fabrics were increased gradually as the concentration of mordants increased, and the highest K/S values were obtained at 5-10%. When using the mordanting methods, silk fabric by premordanting and cotton fabric by synmordanting had a greater effect K/S value. 5. The color fastness of fabrics dyed with Gardenia extract against dry cleaning, washing, rubbing and perpiration was improved 1 level or so but light fastness was remained 1 level showing without any effect.

The fixing behaviors of raw silk yarns treated with melamine and formaldehyde at a molar ratio of 1:3 for trimethylolmelamine were investigated. Sericin was fixed during the fixing process, but a part of sericin I was removed simultaneously by hot water. The weight losses by fixing and the degumming losses by degumming greatly decreased with increasing concentrations of melamine and formaldehyde. The silk yarns fixed with 0.011 M melamine and 0.033M formaldehyde were significantly degummed due to the insufficient fixation of sericin and the alkaline hydrolysis of sericin by sodium carbonate during the degumming process. On the other hand, the silk yarns fixed with 0.055M melamine and 0.165M formaldehyde were degummed slightly (the degumming losses of 3-8%) due to the strong fixation of sericin, which might result from the many cross-linkages between the sericin I molecules, which were formed by trimethylolmelamine. Those fixed with the fixing solution containing 15% owf softener showed the lowest weight and degumming losses because under the condition of 15% owf softener, the cation of the softener can effectively form ionic bonds with the negatively charged side chain of aspartic acid in sericin. In addition, van der Waals' forces may be also formed between the hydrophobic tail of the softener and the hydrophobic region of sericin, which may help inhibit the removal of sericin I.
This study investigates the attachment of glycyrrhizin to fabric using an X-ray photoelectron spectrophotometer( XPS). XPS spectra analysis showed that carbon content on treated fabrics with 0.2% glycyrrhizin increased to 2.699% for silk, 2.829% for nylon, 1.505% for cotton, respectively. The results show that glycyrrhizin is absorbed on treated fabrics. The glycyrrhizin extraction method makes radix glycyrrhizae powder 10g treat the first and the second treatment with ethanol, remove impurities on $75^{\circ}C$; subsequently, it is treated for 10 hours with ethanol 75% on $85^{\circ}C$ and lyophilizated. As the result, glycyrrhizin is extracted 1.7g in GL-I, 1.1 g in GL-II. As the result of abstracting glycyrrhizin with two methods, pure glycyrrhizin was abstracted 45.9% in GL-I, 74.9% in GL-II. GL-I, GL-II; in addition, glycyrrhizin( Japan) on TLC plate was separated in Rf 0.6. By GL-II extract method, this experiment obtained glycyrrhizin 15 g treated in a bath ratio set to 1: 100. Silk fabric was treated at $80^{\circ}C$, 60 min. in, nylon fabric $10^{\circ}C$, 70 min., and cotton fabric $30^{\circ}C$, 80 min.; subsequently, silk, nylon, cotton fabrics showed a 99.9% antibacterial activity for Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae.

A number of researcher have studied biomaterials for cartilage regeneration and are now proceeding. Silk protein was attempted for use as biomedical materials by many researchers because it is natural polymer with biocompatibility and excellent mechanical strength. In this study, we want to know a possibility of silk protein on the cartilage regeneration. We isolated chondrocytes from nasal cartilage and confirmed optimal culture condition of the cells. To observe the effects of silk fibroin on chondrogenesis, we added silk fibroin solutions to the culture medium of chondrocyte and detected gene expression levels related chondrogenesis such as col2, col10. The chondrocytes showed optimal growth when they were cultured in DMEM medium supplemented with 10% FBS 100 ${\cdot}{\ddot{I}}$M ascorbic acid. The levels of col2 gene expression were increased in non-autoclaved silk fibroin, but decreased in autoclaved one. Also the gene expression levels of col10 were increased in silk fibroin, particulary at 3D culture. Based on the results of this study, we had seen the possibility of silk fibroin for cartilage regeneration. In future studies, we should know more clearly the relationship between cartilage regeneration and the silk protein.
Fixation rate of reactive dyes on silk fibroin showed the same tendency to absorption rate. Fixation rate of Yellow 179 and Blue 71 was quite slow and Black 5, Blue 49, Blue 4, Blue 19 and Blue 21 was relatively fast. Weight increase by MAA graft polymerization onto filk fibroin was decreased, on the whole, according to the the increase of dye fixation, but weight increase of silk fibroin dyed with Blue 71 and Blue 21 was much higher than that of silk fibroin. And weight increase of silk fibroin dyed with Yellow 179 was similar to that of silk fibroin and in case of Blue 19, weight increase was about 12%, constantly. Weight increase of silk fibroin dyed with Blue 71 and Blue 21 was higher and the others were lower than of silk fibroin. And weight increase was diminished according as the dyeing temperature rises. The color was a little changed by MAA graft polymerization.
Silk fibers excavated at Fujinoki mounted tomb, Shimoikeyana mounted tomb and Kuriyama site were examined using FT-IR microscope and two peaks called amide I and II present in modern silk fibers were compared with those of excavated fibers. It was found that amide ground in a polymer molecule decreased with the progress of degradation and peak intensity of amide group in infrared spectrum decreased correspondingly. The advantages of FT-IR microscopy for the analysis of organic remains in archaeological view point were evaluated and it was concluded that the systematic investigation of spectral change due to the degradation of respective material is essential.
Effect of various fraction from corn silk on alcohol metaholism in rats were examined and the results were as follows: ethanol souhle fraction. after a single oral administration to rats. was found to cause a significant deL'I'ease in the serum ethanol concentration as well as enh.lJ1cement of liver eytosolie ADH activity, on the other hand. the fraction imouhle in ethanol was found to cause an increase in the blood ethanol concentration and inhihit ADH activity.
A low-temperature dyeing system for silk fabrics based on a redox system has been investigated. Some factors affecting dyeing of silk fabrics with levelling acid dyes in the absence and presence of certain redox system were investigated under different conditions. The variables studied were; type and concentration of redox system, dyeing conditions, i. e. temperature and time, dye concentration, material-to-liquor ration(LR) and colour fastness. The colour strength(K/S value) is outstandingly higher in the presence than in the absence of redox system. A comparison between the colour strength values of such dyeings abtained the three redox system would call for the following order ; Glyoxal/hydrogen peroxide>thiourea/hydrogen peroxide>glucose/hydrgen peroxide> nothing. In the presence of redox system, free radicals are supposed to be formed in both the fiber and the dye and the interaction between these free radicals bring about covalent fixation beside the usual electrostatic bonds, hydrogen bonds and Van der Waals forces.
Eco-friendly and health-functional clothing is now becoming the target of the worldwide hot trends. The purpose of this study is to develop an eco-friendly textiles to decrease environmental pollution and to be harmless for human health by investigating how the natural chorangak liquid treatment affects the changes of mechanical properties and the hand of silk fabrics according to different treatment conditions. Treatment was varied with various temperatures ($85^{\circ}C$, $90^{\circ}C$, $95^{\circ}C$) for 90 seconds after degumming. The results were as follows: 1) The natural chorangak liquid is the most effective at the ratio of glacial acid 200ml with eggshell 20g minimizing the time limit and sludge reduction. Its treatment of silk fabrics is optimized at $90^{\circ}C$ for 90 seconds with 25% conc. after degumming when considering tenacity and elongation. 2) After the treatment, tenacity and elongation of specimen are increased compared with those of degummed silk fabrics. 3) After analyzing the effect of the treatment on the characteristic values of basic mechanical properties of silk fabrics, mechanical properties (tensile, bending, shearing, compression, surface) are overall improved. The properties of thickness and weight are increased as well. 4) Based on the clear analysis on effects of the treatment on the mechanical properties and the hand of silk fabrics, the level of THV was enhanced from good to excellent. Therefore, chorangak liquid can be utilized satisfactorily as a new finishing agent for developing eco-friendly textiles.
