Alkoxy modified silicone (PAMS) was synthesized from hydroxyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane (OH-PDMS) and vinyltrimethoxysilane (VTMO) under alkali catalyst (NaOH and KOH) at room temperature ($25^{\circ}C$) via condensation polymerization. Then, the structural verification of the synthesized PAMS was confirmed using $^1H$-NMR and FT-IR spectroscopy. The reaction rate of PAMSs was studied in terms of the concentration variation of alkali catalyst. The reaction rate increased with the concentration of alkali catalyst, but no correlation between conversion and concentration of alkali catalyst was observed.
The dielectric properties of silicone rubbers are very important to investigate the polymer structure. The characteristics of the dielectric absorption in silicone rubbers were studied in the frequency range of 30Hz to $1{\times}10^6Hz$ at the temperature range of $30^{\circ}C$ through $170^{\circ}C$. As the results of the study, dielectric constant, tangent 5 were measured $2.8{\times}4.5,\;0.007{\times}0.08$.

This paper presents the development of a new Adaptive Tuned Dynamic Vibration Absorber (ATDVA) working with magnetorheological elastomers (MREs). The MRE materials were fabricated by mixing carbonyl iron particles with silicone rubber and cured under a strong magnetic field. An ATDVA prototype using MRE as an adaptable spring was designed and manufactured. The MRE ATDVA worked in a shear mode and the magnetic field was generated by a magnetic circuit and controlled through a DC power supply. The dynamic performances or the system transmissibility at various magnetic fields of the absorber were measured by using a vibration testing system. Experimental results indicated that this absorber can change its natural frequency from 35Hz to 90Hz, 150% of its basic natural frequency. A real time control logic is proposed to evaluate the control effect. The simulation results indicate that the control effect of MRE ATDVA can be improved significantly.
For many years permanent soft denture liners has been widely used in dental practice directly or indirectly because of its function in absorbing and distributing the impact force. However, it reveals problems such as lack of permanency and decreased bond strength in long term use. The purpose of this study is to measure the bond strength and failure between denture base resin and several permanent liners. Lucitone 199 was used as denture base resin with soft acrylic liners (Triad, Tokuso Rebase) and silicone elastomers (Tokuyama, Ufi Gel C) bonded to measure the tensile strength before and after thermocycling. The thermocycling was done in 2000 cycles at $5^{\circ}C,\;26^{\circ}C\;and\;55^{\circ}C$ and the measured tensile strength values before and after thermocycling were compared. The mode of failure was investigated in the separated specimens. The results are as follows. 1. As to tensile strength, the strongest material is Tokuso Rebase followed by Triad, Tokuyama, Ufi Gel C in before thermocycling and the order of Triad, Tokuso Rebase, Tokuyama, Ufi Gel C in after thermocycling state. There was significant difference between the values of Triad, Tokuso Rebase and Tokuyama, Ufi Gel C(p<0.05). 2. As to degree of displacement, Ufi Gel C showed most displacement with or without thermo-cycling treatment and also the difference was significant with the other materials(p<0.05). 3. As to comparisons before and after thermocycling, Tokuso Rebase and Tokuyama showed significant difference in bond strength, whereas Triad and Tokuso Rebase showed significant difference in the degree of displacement(p<0.05). 4. In debonded specimens, Triad and Ufi Gel C showed adhesion failure and Tokuyama showed cohesion failure. Both failures were observed in Tokuso Rebase with adhesion failure up to 70%. The results of this study showed that degree of bond strength between permanent soft denture liner and denture base resin were variable. There was a significant difference between soft acrylics and silicone elastomers with regard to bond strength. Further research in improving bond strength of widely used silicone elastomers and in developing the method of measuring bond strength between denture base resin and the lining materials is needed.
Estimation of the dielectric properties of insulating silicone rubbers added reinforcing fillers $(SiO_2,\;0{\sim}140phr)$ are very important to investigate the polymer structure. The characteristies of the dielectric absorption in insulating silicone rubbers were studied in the frequency range from 30Hz to 1MHz at the temperature range from $0{\sim}170^{\circ}C$. In the case of non-filled specimen, the dielectric loss is due to the syloxane which is the main chain of silicone rubber at the low temperature below $50^{\circ}C$ and the frequency at 330Hz, and is due to methyl and vinyl radical over the frequency of 1MHz. It is confirmed that the methyl radical or the vinyl radical becomes thermal oxidation at the high temperature over $100^{\circ}C$ and then the dielectric disperssing owing to the carboxyl radical Is appeared. In the case of filled specimen, the dielectric constant is in creased with the additives of reinforcing fillers due to the effect of interfacial polarization explained by MWS(Maxwell-Wagner-Sillars)'s law. The dielectric loss is decreased by the disturbance of reinforcing fillers that is permeated between networks.
The characteristic of the dielectric relaxation in silicone rubbers were studied in the frequency range of $1{\times}10^2{\sim}3{\times}10^6Hz$ at the temperature range of $30^{\circ}{\sim}170^{\circ}C$. As the results of the study, it has been confirmed that the silicone rubber containing the cross-linking agants of 2,5-bis(tert-butylperoxy)-2, 5-dimethyl hexane exhibit the dissipation spectra of two kind(${\alpha},\;{\beta}$ dissipation) due to the siloxane and methyl groups. Particularly, the maximum value of dielectric loss spectra of silicone rubber combinning the cross-linking agents of 0.7phr to 1.0phr are on the increasing in high frequency region, but the specimen of above 1.0phr become smaller again. The energy and the entropy of activation on the molicular motion obtained 18.32 kcal/mole and $1.48ca1/mole{\cdot}deg$ in measuring condition respectively.

Membrane process has been applied widely to petroleum chemistry, fine chemistry, polymer, electronics, food, bioprocessing, and wastewater treatment process. Membrane process has advantage that there's no phase change through separation, energy consumption is smaller than other separation processes. And equipment investment and operation cost are inxpensive too. We prepared the silicone rubber membrane and then separated the heavy metal ion from wastewater. Silicone rubber membrane was prepared using a superitical fluid process and heavy metal ions were separated from the chromium nitrate, ferric sulfate, cupric sulfate, nickel sulfate aqueous solution. The pressure difference between top and bottom of separation apparatus was preserved by vacuum pump, and the removal amount of heavy metal at each separation step were analyzed by instrumental analysis, AAS. The surface and pore of silicone rubber membrane was investigated using SEM, and the capability of wastewater treatment using a silicone rubber membrane was proposed as calculated removal rate of heavy metal after comparing removal amount of heavy metal to amount of heavy metal in mother solution by AAS analysis.

PURPOSE. Although dental impression disinfection is determinant to reduce the cross-infection risk, some studies have shown that, in real practice, the disinfection procedures vary considerably. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial effectiveness and the impact on the dimensional stability of addition silicone' impressions of water wash and the most clinically used disinfection solutions: 3% hydrogen peroxide, commercial disinfectant MD520 (Durr) and 1% and 5.25% sodium hypochlorite. MATERIALS AND METHODS. For this investigation, dental impressions were taken on 16 volunteer dental students. The antimicrobial effectiveness of each procedure was evaluated by pour plate method. The dimensional stability was evaluated using a standardized stainless-steel model, according to ANSI/ADA nº19 specification. RESULTS. The study results showed that water wash does not alter the dimensional stability of addition silicone impressions but doesn't reduce the microbial load of the material (P>.05). On the other hand, addition silicone disinfection by immersion with 3% hydrogen peroxide, MD520 (Durr), or sodium hypochlorite at 1% and 5.25% does not alter the dimensional stability significantly but reduces > 99.9% of the microbial load of the impressions (P<.001). CONCLUSION. Addition silicone impressions should always be disinfected after water wash in order to reduce effectively the cross-infection risk. All disinfectants tested showed high antimicrobial efficiency without significant changes in three-dimensional shape of impressions. Hydrogen peroxide and sodium hypochlorite are of particular importance because are easily accessible in dental setting. The less explored hydrogen peroxide could be a valuable alternative for silicone impressions disinfection.
This paper reports hyperelastically stretchable strain gauges based on liquid metal (eutectic gallium-indium;EGaIn) and a platinum-catalyzed silicone elastomer ($Ecoflex^{TM}$). A custom liquidmetal patterning setup was operated to fabricate liquidmetal straingauge on flexible substrate. The printed strain gauges were tested under cyclic uniaxial stretching, twisting, even bending of human finger. By engineering the orientation of solid wires placed over two terminals of t he printed liquid metal resistor, we stably achieved the stretchability of ~800 % which is the highest value reported so far, to the best of our knowledge.
