The purpose of this study was to identify the superior exercise on the reduction of low back pain, between the Mckenzie exercise and the williams exercise. 24 chronic low back pain patients were randomly divided into 3 groups (Mckenzie exercise group = 8, williams exercise group = 8, control group = 8). Each group examined using the Borg scale in a reduction of low back pain, the EMG amplitude in a stationary sit-up position and in a stationary 1000 back extension position. The Results are as follow. 1. After the training period, the Mckenzie exercise group and the williams exercise group revealed reduction of low back pain, but the control group does not revealed it. 2. After the training period, there were no significant differences on the reduction of low back pain between the Mckenzie exercise group and the williams exercise group. 3. After the training period, no groups decreased on the abdominal muscle EMG amplitude. 4. After the training period, all groups revealed no significant differences on the abdominal muscle EMG amplitude. 5. After the training period, all groups decreased on the low back muscle EMG amplitude. 6. After the training period, all groups revealed no significant differences on the low back muscle EMG amplitude. Overall, the study suggested that the Mckenzie exercise and the williams exercise achieve the same effect on the reduction of low back pain, and the fact seems to be influenced by other factors without muscular adaptation.
The purpose of this study was analyse the mandibular movements in patients with internal derangement of the temporomandibular joint according to diagnostic subgroups. The author classified patients with internal derangement of the temporomandibular joint into 4 diagnostic subgroups by means of the magnet resonance imagings, and evaluated the clinical signs and the mandibular movements with Mandibular Kinesiograph(MKG) in each subgroups. The mandibular movements, measured in this study, were the types of movement in frontal and sagittal plane, velocities in opening and closing movement, and the opening and closing movement, and the opening and closing velocity pattern. The data were compared between the 5 groups including the normal group. The results were as follows : 1. Pain was more frequently observed in the anterior disc displacement without reduction group than in the anterior disc displacement with reduction group. Sound of joint was more frequently observed in the anterior disc displacement with reduction group, and limitation of mandibular opening movement was more frequently observed in the anterior disc displacement without reduction group. Duration of the anterior disc displacement without reduction group was significantly short compared to that of the anterior disc displacement with reduction group, and duration of the unilateral anterior disc displacement without reduction group was shortest in the experimental group. The frequency of Angle's classifications had not significant correlations between the experimental groups. 2. Active and passive range of the opening movement, maximum protrusive movement, maximum lateral movement toward left side were significantly decreased in the experimental groups compared to the control group, but there was no significant difference in the range of the maximum lateral movement toward right side between the control and experiment groups. In unilateral anterior disc displacement without reduction group, the range of maximum lateral movement toward unaffected side was no significant difference in the range of the maximum lateral movement between toward affected side and toward unaffected side. 3. Maximum opening velocity, maximum closing velocity, average opening velocity, average closing velocity and maximum velocity of terminal tooth contact were significantly decreased in the experimental groups compared to control group. There was no significant difference in maximum opening velocity and maximum velocity of Terminal tooth contact between the subgroups of the experimental group each other, but there was significant difference in maximum closing velocity, average opening velocity and average closing velocity between the subgroups each other. 4. In the frontal plane of the MKG, the frequency of complex deviation type(F-2)pattern was significantly increased in the anterior disc displacement with out reduction group compared to the anterior disc displacement with reduction group and the control group. In the sagittal plane, the frequency of coincident type(S-1)was decreased in the same group. 5. In the maximum opening velocity pattern, the frequency of no-peak type (OV-3)in the unilateral anterior disc displacement with reduction group was significantly increased compared to the control group. The frequency of 1-peak type (OV-1) and 2-peak type (OV-2) was decreased in the anterior disc displacement with out reduction group, but the frequency of no-peak type (OV-3)was increased in the same group. In the maximum closing velocity pattern, the frequency of no-peak type (CV-3) was significantly increased in the anterior disc displacement without reduction group. Compared to the anterior disc displacement with reduction group and the control group. The frequency of 1-peak type (CV-1) and 2-peak type (CV-2) in the anterior disc displacement with reduction group was decreased than that in the control group.

Vector quantization (VQ) is widely used in many high-quality and high-rate data compression applications such as speech coding, audio coding, image coding and video coding. When the size of a VQ codebook is large, the computational complexity for the full codeword search method is a significant problem for many applications. A number of complexity reduction algorithms have been proposed and investigated using such properties of the codebook as the triangle inequality. This paper proposes a new structured VQ search algorithm that is based on a multi-stage structure for searching for the best codeword. Even using only two stages, a significant complexity reduction can be obtained without any loss of quality.
The activity of taurine transporter is affected by various extracellular stimuli such as ion, hormone and stress. To assess effects of steroid hormones antral cyclosporin A (CsA) on the taurine transporter activity, murine monocytic RAW264.7 cell line was stimulated with dexamethasone (DM), triamcinolone (TA), cortisone (CS), hydrocortisone (HCS), prednisone (PSN), prednisolone (PSL) and methylprednisolone (MPSL) in the presence of 12-0-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate(TPA). Treatment of TPA on the cell line led to significant reduction of taurine transporter activity. However, in case of stimulation of the cells with steroid hormones in the presence of TPA, all of them recovered TPA-induced reduction of the taurine transporter activity. Treatment of the cells with CsA led to significant reduction of the taurine transporter activity. Ionomycin (IM) recovered the reduced taurine transporter activity by CsA, but failed in the presence of EDTA, a calcium chelating agent. These results showed that glucocorticoid hormone recovered TPA-induced reduction of taurine transporter activity and that IM recovered CsA-induced reduction of the transporter activity by increasing intracellular free $Ca^{++}$ concentration.n.
The influence of (-0-Hydroxycitrate(HCA), shown to be a competitive inhibitor of adenosine 5-triphosphate(ATP) citrate lyase, on food intake and body weight, serum triglyceride and cholosterol level, in vivo rates of fatty acid and cholesterol synthesis, and fat cell number and size was investigated. 3 groups of female, 5 weeks old Sprague Dawley rats, 8 animals each, were ad libitum meal-fed or pair-fed(3 hours from 10 : 00 to 13 : 00) AIN based high glucose diet for a total period of 8 weeks. Providing normolipidemic rats orally with 400mg of HCA formula containing approximately 20mg of HCA 1 hour prior to daily feeding schedule significantly depressed in vivo hepatic rates of fatty acid and cholesterol synthesis in the liver and adipose tissue. Serum triglyceride and cholesterol levels were significantly reduced by HCA. At the end of treatment period, the rats administered with HCA resulted in a significantly reduction in body weight gain. The reduction in weights was attributable to a significant decrease in fat cell size with a smaller extent, but not significant, reduction in fat cell number. Rats receiving HCA demonstrated less food intake than the controls ; however, this decreased caloric intake was not fully responsible for the HCA induced depression of hepatic and adipocytic lipogenesis, since experiment using pair-fed cojntrol rats showed, less magnitude but similar results. Both a anorectic and an antilipogenic properties of HCA seem to be responsible for this weight reduction activity of HCA. The outcome of this study suggest that metabolic regulation may be a feasible approach to the control of obesity and hyperlipidemia.
This researcher selected basic variable to investigate the effective relations of establishment and management of resting facility on reduction of constructional disasters and safety accidents and improvement of working efficiency for construction workers. Based on the measured variables, this researcher investigated phenomenon, recognition and satisfaction for using and demanding resting facility by long-term construction in construction site for workers of huge construction site in Seoul, conducted survey of total 219 questionnaires so as to grasp implications of workers' resting facility demanded in long-term huge construction site and effects on reduction of disasters and conducted structural equation analysis. As a result, resting faciity factor, management factor, and hygienic service factor were significant and resting and food factors were not significant. Therefore, it's expected to reduce personal disaster by improving quality of constructional resting facility, hygienic service, and resting facility management and especially, resting facility management factor makes lots of effects on prevention of personal disasters, so it was a strongly main factor. By suggesting the guideline of establishment and management service of proper resting facility through this research, positive recognition and constructional disaster reduction can be expected in construction site.
This study aims to investigate changes in plasma lipid concentrations and appetite-regulating hormone levels after a 4% body fat reduction using a 9-week intervention involving aerobic exercise, a fat-oxidizing agent, and diet limitation. After the 9-week intervention, the aerobic exercise plus hydroxycitric acid (EX+HCA), exercise (EX), and diet limitation (DIET) groups achieved the target 4% body fat reduction from the baseline value. None of the plasma lipid indicators showed significant intergroup differences, indicating that plasma lipid levels are not influenced by body weight regulation. With regard to appetite-regulating hormones, no significant intergroup differences were observed in glucose, insulin, or glucagon-like peptide-1 levels, unlike ghrelin and leptin. Ghrelin levels in particular tended to decrease in the DIET group and increase in the HCA+EX and EX groups. Leptin levels significantly decreased in the HCA+EX and EX groups, whereas no differences were observed in the DIET group. Such results indicate that exercise alone without the administration of obesity diet supplements induces elevation in ghrelin levels and reduction in leptin levels, but that diet restriction alone does not influence changes in leptin levels. Taken together, we could not confirm any synergic effects arising from the use of a fat-oxidizing agent during an exercise program to control body weight. Furthermore, diet limitation unsupported by exercise had no effect on muscle mass reduction or appetite-regulating hormone levels; thus, it is not recommended as an effective body weight control method.

Objectives : This study was performed to analyze treatment outcomes of idiopathic and secondary frozen shoulder patients with clinical characteristics, as well as percentage of pain reduction, and to find out relevant factors for pain reduction in the frozen shoulders of each patient group. Methods : Data were collected from outpatients who visited the Acupuncture and Moxibustion department and treated with traditional Korean Medical treatments at a Korean Medicine Hospital from June 12, 2006 to June 30, 2015. Patients were divided into two groups; idiopathic and secondary frozen shoulder, based on imaging and medical records. Clinical characteristics (demographic characteristics, disease characteristics, treatment characteristics) and percentage pain reduction were collected. Percentage pain reduction was compared between two groups and relevant factors for pain reduction were analyzed. Results : 78 outpatients'medical records were reviewed. There was no significant difference of clinical characteristics between idiopathic and secondary frozen shoulder patients. In percentage pain reduction, there was no significant difference between the two groups. In the idiopathic frozen shoulder group, patients who had a short duration from the onset had a tendency for less pain (p<0.05). In the secondary frozen shoulder group, patients taking herbal medicine experienced significantly less pain (p<0.05). Conclusions : We could find no significant difference in percentage pain reduction with traditional Korean medicine between idiopathic and secondary frozen shoulder. Duration from the onset could be relevant in percentage pain reduction in idiopathic frozen shoulder, and taking herbal medicine could be relevant in the percentage pain reduction in secondary frozen shoulder.

Purpose: We investigated occurrence of reduction loss after extension block (EB) Kirschner wire fixation or additional interfragmentary fixation (AIF) and clinical results including extension lag of the distal interphalangeal joint for treating bony mallet finger. Methods: Forty-six patients were included with a mean follow-up of 28 months (range, 12-54 months). Twenty-seven patients were treated with EB K-wire fixation (Group A) while 19 patients were treated with AIF (Group B). We checked radiologic factors, such as amount of articular involvement, volar subluxation, mallet fragment angle, reduction loss, range of motion including extension lag, and functional outcomes using Crawford's criteria. Results: Reduction loss occurred in eight patients (17%). Differences in mean extension lag, age, preoperative volar subluxation and mallet fragment angle between patients with reduction loss and those with reduction maintaining were significant. However, there were no significant differences in gender, hand dominance, amount of articular involvement, AIF, or further flexion between reduction loss and reduction maintaining. As for patterns of displacement, there was a significant relationship between gap or step-off and extension lag. Using Crawford's evaluation criteria, functional outcomes were excellent in 31, good in 10, fair in 3, and poor in 2 patients. Conclusion: Reduction loss should be careful in older age, smaller mallet fragment angle and preoperative volar subluxation.
