  • In recent days, photochemical smog due to the rapid industry development and vehicle increasement has become a critical pollutant in the metropolitan area and the number of ozone alarm signal has increased every year. This research was performed to evaluate VOCs emission source characteristics and concentration of VOCs in Daegu. The site average concentration was observed in the following order: industrial area > commercial area > residential area. Most of the VOCs species except toluene showed variations with higher concentration during nighttime, and lower concentration during the daytime. The major VOCs of stationary emission source were BTEX(benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene. xylene) and methylene chloride, trichloroethene and styrene. Also, those of automobile exhaust were toluene and benzene. Also, the major VOCs concentration emited by the vehicle fuel was observed in the following order: gasoline > light oil > liquefied petroleum gas (L.P.G). Correlation coefficients values were estimated between major VOCs such as toluene, ethylbenzene, m,p-xylene, o-xylene. Results showed that correlation coefficient values were significant magnitude above 0.76. Also, there showed highly significant correlations among ethyl benzene, m,p-xylene, and o-xylene concentration(Pearson correlation coefficients, r=0.868-0.982). Calculated correlation coefficients among commercial area, industrial area and residential area were 0.934-0.981, they showed high correlation. There showed highly correlation between stationary emission source and industrial area, compared with commercial area and residential area. Also, calculated correlation coefficients among commercial area, industrial area, residential area and automobile exhaust were 0.732, 0.725, 0.777, respectively.

  • The effects of convection on the measurement of the diffusion coefficients of liquids by the pulsed gradient spin echo (PGSE) NMR method at low temperature are discussed. To examine the generation of convective flows, we used four different types of sample tubes in the diffusion measurements with temperature variation; a normal 5 mm NMR tube, a Shigemi tube, an ELISE type tube, and a capillary tube. Below room temperature, the calculated diffusion coefficients of chloroform in 5 mm o.d. type tubes increased with decreasing temperature, while those in the capillary tube decreased linearly. The convective flow was found to be significant even at low temperature and it seemed to be mainly induced by the transverse temperature gradient. It was also found that the capillary tube was most appropriate to measure the diffusion coefficients, since its small diameter is effective in suppressing the convective flows at both high and low temperatures.

  • In this work, an improved method of EZW is suggested for efficient compression and transmission of image data. Here, coding efficiency is accomplished by embedded coding of significant coefficients using lower-level insignificant coefficients, and coding time is decreased by pre-coding of lower-level coefficients in coefficient detection. In simulation of designed architecture, the performance improvement of 1dB PSNR is confirmed compared with the results by the original En method.

  • Rotordynamic analysis of a multistage turbine pump using finite element method is performed to investigate the effects of seal wear on Its system behavior. Stiffness and damping coefficients of the 2-axial grooved bearing are obtained as functions of rotating speed. Stiffness and damping coefficients of plane annular seals are calculated as functions of rotating speed as well as seal clearance. As the clearance of seals become larger, these stiffness and damping coefficients decrease drastically so that there can be significant changes in whirl natural frequencies and damping characteristics of the pump rotor system. Although a pump is designed to operate with a sufficient seperation margin from the 1st critical speed, seal wear due to long operation may cause a sudden increase in nitration amplitude by resonance shift and reduce seal damping capability.

  • A mixture experiment is a special type of the response surface experiment in which the factors are the components of a mixture, and the response variable is a function of the proportions of each component. When a new mixture product is developed, there are a large number of components, and the first objective of the experiment is to identify the ones that are most important by doing a screening experiment. We propose a method of screening mixture components using the correlation coefficients when t-tests cannot identify significant components.

  • In this paper, the static and dynamic responses of a tied-arch railway bridge under train load were studied through field tests. The deflection and stresses of the bridge were measured in different static loading scenarios. The dynamic load test of the bridge was carried out under the excitation of running train at different speeds. The dynamic properties of the bridge were investigated in terms of the free vibration characteristics, dynamic coefficients, accelerations, displacements and derailment coefficients. The results indicate that the tie of the measuring point has a significant effect on the vertical movement of the test section. The dynamic responses of arch bridge are insensitive to the number of trains. The derailment coefficients of locomotive and carriage increase with the train speed and symmetrically distributed double-line loads reduce the train derailment probability.

  • This paper presents a watermarking approach that the 1-level Discrete Wavelet Transform(DWT) coefficients of a $64{\ast}64$ binary logo image as watermarks are inserted in LL band and other specific frequency bands of the host image using Multi-Resolution Analysis(MRA) Wavelet transform for copyright protection of image data. The DWT coefficients of the binary logo image are inserted in blocks of LL band and specific bands of the host image that the 3-level DWT has been performed in the same orientation. We investigate Significant Coefficients(SCs) in each block of the frequency areas in order to prevent the quality deterioration of the host image and the watermark is inserted by SCs. When the host image is distorted by difference of the distortion degree in each frequency, we set the thresholds of SCs on each frequency and completely insert the watermark in each frequency of the host image. In order to be invisibility of the watermark, the Human Visual System(HVS) is applied to the watermark. We prove the proper embedding method by experiment. Thereby, we rapidly detect the watermark using this watermarking method and because the small size watermarks are inserted by HVS and SCs, the results confirm the superiority of the proposed method on invisibility and robustness.

  • Objective : To assess the relationship and prevalence rate among hypertension, dyslipidemia and the four commenest anthropometric measurements for obesity(body mass index(BMI), waist-hip ratio(WHR), waist circumference(WC) and body fat) in Korean adults. Methods : We studied the cross-sectional association of the anthropometric indicies and hypertension, dyslipidemia in 70 Korean adults. Hypertension was defined as blood pressure ${\ge}160/95$mmHg and classification of JNC IV, Dyslipidemia were defined as total cholesterol ${\ge}200$ mg/dl, HDL-cholesterol ${le}35$ mg/dl, LDL-cholesterol ${\ge}160$ mg/dl, triglyceride ${\ge}200$ mg/dl. Infromations on life-style factors were obtained from personal interview. Results : BMI and WHR, BMI and WC, BMI and Fat(%), WHR and WC, WC and Fat(%) had high partial correlation coefficients after age adjustment. BMI and Systolic Blood Pressure had r=0.385 coefficients, WHR and HDL-cholesterol had r=-0.360 coefficients. All four anthropomtric indicies and hypertenstion groups by JNC IV classsification had signifiant differences in women, but only fat(%) and hypertension had significant difference in men. In women, in the relationship of four anthropomtric indicies and serum lipids, total cholesterol ${\ge}200$ mg/dl group with fat(%) had a signifiant difference for normal cholesterol group, and also the group of HDL-cholesterol ${\le}$ mg/dl with WC had significance. But in men, there were no significant differences in all anthropomtric indicies and serum lipids groups. Conclusions : Korean women are more significant than Korean men in the relationship between anthropometric indicies and serum lipids, or blood pressure. But this study's samples are small, so the results are some different with results of other studies. We should study more specifically about anthropometric indicies and serum lipids, anthropometric indicies and blood pressure with many samples.

  • Content adaptive watermark embedding algorithm using a stochastic image model in the multiwavelet transform is proposed in this paper. A watermark is embedded into the perceptually significant coefficients (PSCs) of each subband using multiwavelet transform. The PSCs in high frequency subband are selected by SSQ, that is, by setting the thresholds as the one half of the largest coefficient in each subband. The perceptual model is applied with a stochastic approach based on noise visibility function (NVF) that has local image properties for watermark embedding. This model uses stationary Generalized Gaussian model characteristic because watermark has noise properties. The watermark estimation use shape parameter and variance of subband region. it is derive content adaptive criteria according to edge and texture, and flat region. The experiment results of the proposed watermark embedding method based on multiwavelet transform techniques were found to be excellent invisibility and robustness.

  • Purpose: Composite tissue allotransplantation has emerged as a new therapeutic modality to reconstruct major tissue defects of the head, neck and extremities. A questionnaire-based instrument, the Louisville Instrument for Transplantation (LIFT), has been developed to objectively assess the risk-versus-benefit ratio for composite tissue allotransplantation procedures. The objective of this study is to assess if the LIFT is a useful, reliable and valid tool to apply to the Korean population. Methods: Seventy-three medical students and 60 lay public completed the LIFT questionnaire (translated to Korean) over the period from February 2010 to April 2010. Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach's alpha. Test-retest reliability was analyzed using Pearson's correlation coefficient. Construct validity was assessed by comparing Pearson's correlation coefficients between perceived improvements in quality of life and responses to risk tolerance questions concerning organ transplants. Results: Measurements of the test-retest reliability showed that Pearson's correlation coefficients ranged from 0.241 to 0.902, and Cronbach's alphas ranged from 0.52 to 0.80 for medical students and from 0.63 to 0.83 for the lay public. Pearson's correlation coefficients showed significant correlations between perceived improvements in quality of life and responses to risk tolerance questions concerning organ transplants. Hand transplant showed a significant correlation in medical students. Foot, hand, two hands, larynx, partial face transplants showed significant correlations for the lay public. Conclusion: The applicability of the LIFT to the Korean population was found to be reliable and valid. The LIFT may serve as a useful tool for clinical application in the Korean population.
