  • In this paper, we investigate a security transmission scheme at the physical layer for cooperative wireless relay networks in the presence of a passive eavesdropper. While the security scheme has been previously investigated with perfect channel state information(CSI) in the presence of a passive eavesdropper, this paper focuses on researching the robust cooperative relay beamforming mechanism for wireless relay networks which makes use of artificial noise (AN) to confuse the eavesdropper and increase its uncertainty about the source message. The transmit power used for AN is maximized to degrade the signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio (SINR) level at the eavesdropper, while satisfying the individual power constraint of each relay node and worst-case SINR constraint at the desired receiver under a bounded spherical region for the norm of the CSI error vector from the relays to the destination. Cooperative beamforming weight vector in the security scheme can be obtained by using S-Procedure and rank relaxation techniques. The benefit of the proposed scheme is showed in simulation results.

  • Successive interference cancellation (SIC) is considered to be a promising technique to mitigate multi-user interference and achieve concurrent uplink transmissions, but the optimal power allocation (PA) issue for SIC users is not well addressed. In this article, we focus on the optimization of the PA ratio of users on an SIC channel and analytically obtain the optimal PA ratio with regard to the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) threshold for successful demodulation and the sustainable demodulation error rate. Then, we design an efficient resource allocation (RA) scheme using the obtained optimal PA ratio. Finally, we compare the proposal with the near-optimum RA obtained by a simulated annealing search and the RA scheme with random PA. Simulation results show that our proposal achieves a performance close to the near-optimum and much higher performance than the random scheme in terms of total utility and Jain's fairness index. To demonstrate the applicability of our proposal, we also simulate the proposal in various network paradigms, including wireless local area network, body area network, and vehicular ad hoc network.

  • Base station coordination has received much attention as a means to reduce the inter-cell interference in cellular networks. However, this interference reducing ability comes at the expense of increased feedback, backhaul load and computational complexity. The degree of coordination is therefore limited in practice. In this paper, we explore the trade-off between capacity and feedback load in a cellular network with coordination clusters. Our main interest lies in a scenario with multiple fading users in each cell. The results indicate that a large fraction of the total gain can be achieved by a significant reduction in feedback. We also find an approximate expression for the distribution of the instantaneous signal to interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) and propose a new effective scheduling algorithm.

  • In this paper, the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system with a precoder is considered in the transmit-correlated Rayleigh channels. We specifically target the MIMO system employing the minimum mean square error receivers. Based on random matrix theory, we first present a direct and generalized formulation for deriving a probability density function (PDF) of the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR). Then, we derive the accurate closed-form SINR PDFs for a small number of transmit and receive antennas. Based on the SINR PDFs, tight closed-form approximations of the symbol error rate (SER) are derived. Our analysis suggests that the SER approximations can be used to accurately estimate the error probabilities or as a useful tool for the system design.

  • This paper proposes a novel blind adaptive algorithm for computing the weight vector of an antenna array system. The new technique utilizes a Generalized On-Off algorithm to obtain the weight vector maximizing the SINR(Signal to Interference plus Noise Ratio) of the received signal. It is observed that the proposed algorithm generates a suboptimal weight vector with a linear computational load(O(6N+8)). From the various simulations, it is confirmed that, when the signal environment becomes adverse, e.g., low Processing Gain, and/or wide angular spread. the proposed algorithm outperforms the conventional one in terms of the communication capacity by about 3 times. Applying the proposed algorithm to satellite tracking systems as well as IS2000 1X mobile communication system, we have found that both communication capacity and communication quality are significantly improved.

  • Two-tier femtocell networks, consisting of a conventional cellular network underlaid with femtocell hotspots, play an important role in the indoor coverage and capacity of cellular networks. However, the cross- and co-tier interference will cause an unacceptable quality of service (QoS) for users with universal frequency reuse. In this paper, we propose a novel downlink interference mitigation strategy for spectrum-shared two-tier femtocell networks. The proposed solution is composed of three parts. The first is femtocells clustering, which maximizes the distance between femtocells using the same slot resource to mitigate co-tier interference. The second is to assign macrocell users (MUEs) to clusters by max-min criterion, by which each MUE can avoid using the same resource as the nearest femtocell. The third is a novel adaptive power control scheme with femtocells downlink transmit power adjusted adaptively based on the signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) level of neighboring users. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can effectively increase the successful transmission ratio and ergodic capacity of femtocells, while guaranteeing QoS of the macrocell.

  • In this paper, we presented a signal model of STAP and actual environment of clutter. The novel estimation method of clutter covariance matrix using median value is proposed to overcome serious performance degradation after NHD in nonhomogeneous clutter. Eigen value characteristic is improved through diagonal loading. Target detection ability and SINR loss of the proposed method though MSMI statistic is also compared with conventional method using average value. The simulation results, confirm the proposed method has better performance than others.

  • Transceiver optimization in multiple input multiple output (MIMO) cognitive systems is studied in this paper. The joint transceiver beamformer design is introduced to minimize the transmit power at secondary base station (SBS) while simultaneously controlling the interference to primary users (PUs) and satisfying the secondary users (SUs) signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) based on the convex optimization method. Due to the limited cooperation between SBS and PUs, the channel state information (CSI) usually cannot be obtained perfectly at the SBS in cognitive system. In this study, both perfect and imperfect CSI scenarios are considered in the beamformer design, and the proposed method is robust to CSI error. Numerical results validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • In this paper, we investigate the scheduling and power allocation for coordinated multi-point transmission in downlink long term evolution advanced (LTE-A) systems, where orthogonal frequency division multiple-access is used. The proposed scheme jointly optimizes user selection, power allocation, and modulation and coding scheme (MCS) selection to maximize the weighted sum throughput with fairness consideration. Considering practical constraints in LTE-A systems, the MCSs for the resource blocks assigned to the same user need to be the same. Since the optimization problem is a combinatorial and non-convex one with high complexity, a low-complexity algorithm is proposed by separating the user selection and power allocation into two subproblems. To further simplify the optimization problem for power allocation, the instantaneous signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) and the average SINR are adopted to allocate power in a single cell and multiple coordinated cells, respectively. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can improve the average system throughput and the cell-edge user throughput significantly compared with the existing schemes with limited feedback.

  • This paper follows up the previous work on the linearly constrained, modified minimum mean-squared error(MMSE) detection for direct-sequence code-division multiple-access DS-CDMA) systems in fading channels. We find a condition to avoid the breakdown of joint modified MMSE detection and pilot symbol-aided channel estimation (PSACE). The linearly constrained, modified MMSE solution is theoretically shown to be robust against time variations in Rayleigh fading channels. This fact is consistent with the simulation results. We also show that under some conditions the linearly constrained, modified MMSE detection maximizes the output signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio.(SINR)
