Adhesive Polyurethane-based Capacitive Electrode for Patch-type Wearable Electrocardiogram Measurement System (패치형 웨어러블 심전도 측정 시스템을 위한 접착성 폴리우레탄 기반의 용량성 전극)

  • Wearable medical device has been a resurgence of interest thanks to the development of technology and propagation of smart phone in recent years. Various types of wearable devices have been introduced and available in market. Capacitive coupled electrode which measures electrocardiogram over cloth is able to be applied wearable device. In previous approaches of capacitive electrode, they need proper pressure for stable contact of the electrode to body surface. However, wearable device that gives pressure on body surface is not suitable for long-term monitoring. In this study, we proposed adhesive polyurethane-based capacitive electrode for patch-type wearable electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring device. Self-adhesive polyurethane make the electrode and whole system be adhered to the surface of skin without any pressure. The patch-type system is consisted of analog filter, analog-to-digital converter and wireless transmission module and designed to be attached on the body as a patch. To validate the feasibility of the developed system, we measured ECG signal in stable and active state and extracted heart rate. Therefore, we observed skin response after long-term attachment for biocompatibility of the adhesive polyurethane and adhesive strength of it. The result shows the possibility of applying the developed system for ECG monitoring in real-life.

Performance Improvement of PFMIPv6 Using Signal Strength Prediction in Mobile Internet Environment (모바일 인터넷 환경에서 신호세기 예측을 이용한 PFMIPv6의 성능 개선)

  • For the successful deployment of Mobile Internet, fast handover technologies are essential. For the past few years several handover mechanisms are suggested, and Fast Handover for Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PFMIPv6) is one of the promising schemes for this purpose. In this paper, we propose a novel L2/L3 cross layer handover scheme based on ARIMA prediction model to apply PFMIPv6 to Mobile Internet environment effectively. Performance gains are evaluated in terms of probabilities of predictive-mode operation, handover latencies, packet loss probabilities, and signaling costs. Three mobilities models are used for our simulation: Manhattan Model, Open Area Model, and Freeway Model. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can increase probabilities of predictive-mode operation and reduce handover latency, packet loss probabilities, and signaling cost.

  • Computing environment is evolving rapidly to ubiquitous environment. It thus makes people access and utilize any resource on the move and makes location of objects rise to the rank of the most important information. However provision of location information is too restrictive in small environments such as a home or building. In this paper we propose a home entertainment system which supports user mobility based on sensor networks and distributed devices. The proposed system estimates a user location by using signal strength received from Bluetooth ad-hoc networks. This estimated location information can tell which device a user can take advantage of while moving. In order to prove possibility of user mobility support, the system is implemented on our UPnP A/V framework home entertainment system to provide content streaming and the result shows that a provision of service for mobile users could be possible in small ubiquitous computing environments.

  • Applied with multicast transmission techniques in mobile computing environments, a mobile host will experience join and graft delay, happened when a host wants to join a multicast group in the fixed network, if there are no same multicast group member in the new cell the mobile host enters. Due to low bandwidth and higher error rate, there happens many additional traffic. In this paper, we propose a pre-join technique which new mobile support station joins the multicast group in advance based on signal strength hint in the current cell. We use the multiple level acknowledgement strategy that executes acknowledgment separately between the fixed part and the wireless transmission path. Using our strategy, it is an efficient technique in case there are more cells that has no multicast group members and less mobile host movements.

  • This paper presents a novel scheme that quickly searches for the optimal direction of multiple directional antennas, and locks on to it for high-speed millimeter wavelength transmissions, when communications to another antenna directional are disconnected. The proposed method utilizes a modified genetic algorithm, which selects a superior initial group through preprocessing in order to solve the local solution in genetic algorithm. TDD (Time Division Duplex) is utilized as the transfer method and data controller for the antenna. Once the initial communication is completed for the specific number of individuals, no longer antenna's data will be transmitted nil each station processes GA in order to produce the next generation. After reproduction, individuals of the next generation become the data, and communication between each station is made again. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed system, simulation results of 1:1, 1:2, 1:5 directional antennas and experiment results of 1:1 directionalantennas confirmed the efficiency of the proposed method. The 16bit split is 8bit, but it has similar performance as 16bit gene.

  • The positioning system based on wireless AP collects AP information distributed in the real world, stores it into database, and measures the position objects by comparing with searched AP information. The existing fingerprinting method is a probabilistic modeling method that acquires much of the data collected from one location upon database composition, and stores the average of the data for the sake of use it in positioning objects. Using the average value, however, may cause the probability of errors Such errors are fatal weaknesses for services based on the accurate position. This paper described the characteristics and problems of the previously used wireless AP positioning system, and proposed a method of using the AP DB and an MSS mechanism for outdoor positioning in order to solve the aforementioned problems. And the results obtained from experimental tests showed that the proposed method achieved very low error rate(27%) compared with the existing method.

Design of Node Position Estimation System for Sensor Networks (센서 네트워크의 노드 위치 추정 시스템 설계)

  • The value of sensing information is decided according to positions of sensor nodes, which are very important in sensor networks. In this paper, we propose a method that estimates positions of nodes by using adjacent node information and received signal strength in a sensor network. With the proposed method, we can find positions of nodes easily because we use information that nodes have. Moreover, we can find distribution easily for all the nodes because we can measure a relative position for a node whose position is not known based on anchor nodes whose positions are already known. We utilized Use case diagram, activity diagram and State machine diagram among several diagrams of UML to implement proposed method in sensor networks that is dynamic system. We can understand exact flow for each function of the proposed method in node position estimation system can be implemented easily. And we can be confirmed that the position of estimated nodes has a little error.

  • Distributed localization algorithms are necessary for large-scale wireless sensor network applications. In this paper, we introduce an efficient node distribution based localization algorithm that emphasizes simple refinement and low system load for low-cost and low-rate wireless sensors. Each node adaptively chooses neighbor nodes for sensors, update its position estimate by minimizing a local cost function and then passes this update to the neighbor nodes. The update process considers a distribution of nodes for large-scale networks which have same density in a unit area for optimizing the system performance. Neighbor nodes are selected within a range which provides the smallest received signal strength error based on the real experiments. MATLAB simulation showed that the proposed algorithm is more accurate than trilateration and les complex than multidimensional scaling. The implementation on MicaZ using TinyOS-2.x confirmed the practicality of the proposed algorithm.

The Optimized Detection Range of RFID-based Positioning System using k-Nearest Neighbor Algorithm

  • The positioning technology for a moving object is an important and essential component of ubiquitous computing environment and applications, for which Radio Frequency Identification(RFID) has been considered as a core technology. RFID-based positioning system calculates the position of moving object based on k-nearest neighbor(k-nn) algorithm using detected k-tags which have known coordinates and kcan be determined according to the detection range of RFID system. In this paper, RFID-based positioning system determines the position of moving object not using weight factor which depends on received signal strength but assuming that tags within the detection range always operate and have same weight value. Because the latter system is much more economical than the former one. The geometries of tags were determined with considerations in huge buildings like office buildings, shopping malls and warehouses, so they were determined as the line in I-Dimensional space, the square in 2-Dimensional space. In 1-Dimensional space, the optimal detection range is determined as 125% of the tag spacing distance through the analytical and numerical approach. Here, the analytical approach means a mathematical proof and the numerical approach means a simulation using matlab. But the analytical approach is very difficult in 2-Dimensional space, so through the numerical approach, the optimal detection range is determined as 134% of the tag spacing distance in 2-Dimensional space. This result can be used as a fundamental study for designing RFID-based positioning system.
