Design and Implementation of an Active Power Filter Using Model Predictive Controller

  • A parallel active power filter is designed and implemented to compensate for undesired current harmonics generated by a nonlinear load. The filter works based on PWM strategy and control signal is generated using a model predictive controller. To evaluate the achievements, a PI controller is also designed and implemented. Experimental results indicate about 50% increase in the efficiency over PI controller.

  • A non-linear filtering for the noise cancelling of signals degraded by random impulsive noise is proposed. The non-linear algorithm is based on a criterion for the overall smoothness of the signal. The smoothness criterion is optimized by a dynamic programming strategy. It performs considerably better than a LDNF(low-distortion nonlinear filter), although being comparable in computing time.

  • A set of approaches suggested to control the eccentricity is discussed in this paper. Among these, filter-integrator method is used to design the controller, which also includes the input signal synchronization, stabilizing filter and eccentricity source discrimination. Using the S/W that is coded for real time application of that controller, we simulated the operations of that one. The simulation results show the characteristics of eccentricity compensation and eccentricity discrimination. However, from these results, we can see that only proper stabilization strategy certificates the safe eccentricity control.

  • A procedure for the predictive control for structural vibration control in building subject to wind loads is presented. The building motions are modeled by the first mode of the response. Wind velocities are generated by the simulation using power spectral density function. Predictive control algorithm is the discrete-time formulation and that is developed as a control strategy that computes the control signal which makes the predicted process output equal to a desired process output. Results on the reduction of the dynamic response and control effectiveness of the algorithm are presented and discussed.

  • In this paper, the method of Space-Vector Pulse Width Modulation(SVPWM) with Fuzzy Logic Regulator(FLR) is proposed. In a conventional SVPWM, the procedures of phase transformation and choosing PWM patterns are complex. So, it should be implemented with high performance processor like Digital Signal Processor(DSP). In order to reduce a calculation burden, a proposed system adopts FLR. Using a linguistic contro strategy based on expert knowledge, FLR relieves the processor from a heavy computations. In simulations, the proposed system is validated.

  • An active stick which has the variable force-feel characteristics is developed. A combined position and force control strategy is mechanized using a 2-axis built-in force sensor and LVDT. The 2-axis force sensor which measures the stick force felt by the operator is developed by using strain gages and appropriate instrumental amplifiers. A mathematical model of the active stick dynamics is derived, and compared with the experimental results. The frictional torque of the stick due to the mechanical contacts of several parts makes the experimental frequency responses to be dependent on the magnitude of excitation signal, and the precision closed loop control to be difficult.   • This paper presents a simple class-D stereo amplifier using 3-phase full bridge circuit configurations which is controlled by a new current control switching method. Although this class-D amplifier has an only one current control loop with the proposed switching method, a good performance can be obtained. In this paper, a strategy for driving stereo signal amplifier with 3-phase full bridge is discussed. With the experimental results, usefulness of the proposed amplifier is confirmed.

  • In the microcell- or picocell-based system the frequent movements of the mobile bring about excessive traffics into the networks. A mobile location estimation mechanism can facilitate both efficient resource allocation and better QoS provisioning through handoff optimization. Existing location estimation schemes consider only LOS model and have poor performance in presence of multi-path and shadowing. In this paper we study a novel scheme which can increase estimation accuracy by considering NLOS environment and other multiple decision parameters than the received signal strength.

  • This paper proposes a new control strategy to eliminate the harmonic components of stator current for stand-alone DFIG system feeding non-linear loads. In this method, the LSC operates as an active filter which is controlled by employing a proportional-integral and a resonant controller. And also, the stator current is used as the feedback signal for the compensator instead of the load current, so that the additional current sensor at the load side can be removed. The experiment is verified to validate the effectiveness of the proposed compensating method.
