  • In this paper, the effect of soft handoff technique on CDMA cell coverage is analyzed in a lognormally shadowed channel, which uses the Hata propagation model, Also, the rate of increase for the cell coverage is analyzed by calculating the hard and soft handoff margin. When the outage probability is 0.02 and the standard deviation of the received signal is 2.5 dB in a lognormally shadowed channel, the transmit power of the mobile station which is located in the cell boundary is increased by the hard handoff margin of 5.13 dB and by the soft handoff margin of 3.68 dB, respectively. So, the rate of increase for the cell coverage is 1.39 in case of using the soft handoff technique. It is shown that if the (E$\_$b//N$\_$0/)$\_$req/ value is 7 dB, the cell coverage of the CDMA cellular system with soft handoff technique in city area is 3.33 km in case of the 850 MHz frequency and 1.36 km in case of the 1900 MHz frequency. Also, the accurate cell coverage with soft handoff technique is supported that could be serviced by the base-station in CDMA cellular system.

  • Purpose This study aimed to investigate the diagnostic performance of features suggestive of nodal metastasis on preoperative MRI in patients with invasive breast cancer. Materials and Methods We retrospectively reviewed the preoperative breast MRI of 192 consecutive patients with surgically proven invasive breast cancer. We analyzed MRI findings of axillary lymph nodes with regard to the size, long/short ratio, cortical thickness, shape and margin of the cortex, loss of hilum, asymmetry, signal intensity (SI) on T2-weighted images (T2WI), degree of enhancement in the early phase, and enhancement kinetics. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis, chi-square test, t test, and McNemar's test were used for statistical analysis. Results Increased shorter diameter, uneven cortical shape, increased cortical thickness, loss of hilum, asymmetry, irregular cortical margin, and low SI on T2WI were significantly suggestive of metastasis. ROC analysis revealed the cutoff value for the shorter diameter and cortical thickness as 8.05 mm and 2.75 mm, respectively. Increased cortical thickness (> 2.75 mm) and uneven cortical shape showed significantly higher sensitivity than other findings in McNemar's test. Irregular cortical margins showed the highest specificity (100%). Conclusion Cortical thickness > 2.75 mm and uneven cortical shape are more sensitive parameters than other findings, and an irregular cortical margin is the most specific parameter for predicting axillary metastasis in patients with invasive breast cancer.

  • The $TomoTherapy^{(R)}$ beam-delivery method creates helical beam-junctioning patterns in the dose distribution within the target. In addition, the dose discrepancy results in the particular region where the resonance by pattern of dose delivery occurs owing to the change in the position and shape of internal organs with a patient's respiration during long treatment times. In this study, we evaluated the dose pattern of the longitudinal profile with the change in respiration. The superior-inferior motion signal of the programmable respiratory motion phantom was obtained using AbChes as a four-dimensional computed tomography (4DCT) original moving signal. We delineated virtual targets in the phantom and planned to deliver the prescription dose of 300 cGy using field widths of 1.0 cm, 2.5 cm, and 5.0 cm. An original moving signal was fitted to reflecting the beam delivery time of the $TomoTherapy^{(R)}$. The EBT3 film was inserted into the phantom movement cassette, and static, without the movement and with the original movement, was measured with signal changes of 2.0 s, 4.0 s, and 5.0 s periods, and 2.0 mm and 4.0 mm amplitudes. It was found that a dose fluctuation within ${\pm}4.0%$ occurred in all longitudinal profiles. Compared with the original movement, the region of the gamma index above 1 partially appeared within the target and the border of the target when the period and amplitude were changed. Gamma passing rates were 95.00% or more. However, cases for a 5.0 s period and 4.0 mm amplitude at a field width of 2.5 cm and for 2.0 s and 5.0 s periods at a field width of 5.0 cm have gamma passing rates of 92.73%, 90.31%, 90.31%, and 93.60%. $TomoTherapy^{(R)}$ shows a small difference in dose distribution according to the changes of period and amplitude of respiration. Therefore, to treat a variable respiratory motion region, a margin reflecting the degree of change of respiration signal is required.

  • The standard wave height measurement system is usually based on spectrum analysis for measuring wave height. The spectrum analysis is complicated because of the FFT, and the FFT is not for real time processing since it requires the saved data segments. In this paper, we carried out the performance evaluation of real-time and simpler wave height measurement system using the kalman filter and inertial sensors. The kalman filter theory is complicated, but its algorithm is simpler than the FFT and the kalman filter is used to estimate wave height by integrating acceleration data. But the accumulated error is occurred when the acceleration data is integrated. We developed the algorithm using the wind wave characteristic to decrease the accumulated error. In this paper, the performance evaluation of the wave height measurement system is carried out for various wind wave conditions. Through the experiments, we verified that it shows high measurement performance with the 3.5% margin of error in wind wave condition.

  • In this paper, a servo filter design for the gimbal engine actuator system of KSR-III(Korea Sounding Rocket-III) is considered. A reasonable filter structure is determined based on the actuator analytic models. The servo filter consists of a 2-nd order lowpass filter and a 1-st order compensator. The lowpass filter is required to protect the actuator from high frequency vibration, and the compensator to enhance the resulting stability. A Butterworth type servo filter is considered as the simplest one. The final servo filter type is determined by evaluating simultaneously both high frequency gain reduction performance and the corresponding KSR-III stability margin. Consequently it is revealed that a notch type servo filter located on the error between command signal and feedback signal in the control loop is very effective. Later, based on the proposed servo filter type, an onboard servo filter hardware of KSR-III will be designed and tested.

  • A 16 Mb 1T1C FeRAM device was integrated with BLT capacitors. But a lot of cells were failed randomly during the measuring the bit-line signal distribution of each cell. The reason was revealed that the grain size and orientation of the BLT thin film were severely non-uniform. And the grain size and orientation were severely affected by the process conditions of post heat treatment, especially nucleation step. The optimized annealing temperature at the nucleation step was $560^{\circ}C$. The microstructure of the BLT thin film was also varied by the annealing time at the step. The longer process time showed the finer grain size. Therefore, the uniformity of the grain size and orientation could be improved by changing the process conditions of the nucleation step. The FeRAM device without random bit-fail cell was successfully fabricated with the optimized BLT capacitor and the sensing margin in bit-line signal distribution of it was about 340 mV.

  • The authors are making a prototype flexible board of a radio-frequency transmitter for measuring an electromyogram (EMG) of a flying moth and plan to apply for an experimental station license from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan in the summer of 2022. The goal is to create a continuous low-dose exposure standard that incorporates scientific and physiological functional assessments to replace the current standard based on lethal dose 50. This paper describes the technical evaluation of the hardware. The signal of a bipolar EMG electrode is amplified by an operational amplifier. This potential is added to a voltage-controlled crystal oscillator (27 MHz, bandwidth: 4 kHz), frequency-converted, and transmitted from an antenna about 10 cm long (diameter: 0.03 mm). The power source is a 1.55-V wristwatch battery that has a total weight of about 0.3 g (one dry battery and analog circuit) and an expected operating time of 20 minutes. The output power is -7 dBm and the effective isotropic radiated power is -40 dBm. The signal is received by a dual-whip antenna (2.15 dBi) at a distance of about 100 m from the moth. The link margin of the communication circuit is above 30 dB within 100 m. The concepts of this hardware and the measurement data are presented in this paper. This will be the first biological data transmission from a moth with an official license. In future, this telemetry system will improve the detection of physiological abnormalities of moths.

  • To verify the performance of a Distributed Translator Network(DTxR) system in the real world conditions, 5 legacy DTV broadcasting repeater sites were implemented with 5 DTxR systems and field-tested by the DTV field test truck. The 4 DTV broadcasting repeater sites are selected in congested areas where their service areas are overlapped and the 5th site is deviated from the other sites to examine the effect of long-delayed multipath signals. First of all, we checked the receiving signal of the main station that used as a transmitting signal in 5 DTxR systems on the pre-selected 60 test points and tested every case of a DTxR system's on & off except 1 repeater site due to the already built-in DTV repeater system. The test items are received signal electric field strength, noise margin, ease of reception and subjective evaluation of the picture quality for received signals. We used 3rd, 5th, and 6th generation DTV receivers to examine the differences of the receivability by each generation of DTV receivers. Reviewing the test results, we conclude that the DTxR system can be adopted in the current DTV Repeater sites and it could improve the quality and receivability of the main signals by extending the service areas and enhancing the signal levels in the shadow areas without using the extra broadcasting channels.

  • This study presents the development of an acid resistance velocity sensor that is used for measuring velocity inside a copper sulfate plating bath. First, researchers investigated the acid resistance coating to confirm the suitability of the anti-acid sensor in a very corrosive environment. Then, researchers applied signal processing methods to reduce noise and amplify the signal. Next, researchers applied a pressure-resistive sensor with an operation amplifier (Op Amp) and low-pass filter with high impedance to match the output voltage of a commercial flowmeter. Lastly, this study compared three low-pass filters (Bessel, Butterworth and Chebyshev) to select the appropriate signal process circuit. The results show 0.0128, 0.0023, and 5.06% of the mean square error, respectively. The Butterworth filter yielded more precise results when compared to a commercial flowmeter. The acid resistive sensor is capable of measuring velocities ranging from 2 to 6 m/s with a 2.7% margin of error.

  • In this paper, we propose and demonstrate a cost-effective technique to upgrade the capacity of dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) networks to a 40 Gb/s line rate using the existing 10 Gb/s-based infrastructure. To accommodate 40 Gb/s over the link optimized for 10 Gb/s, we propose applying a combination of super-FEC, carrier-suppressed return-to-zero, and pre-emphasis to the 40 Gb/s transponder. The transmission of 40 Gb/s DWDM channels over existing 10 Gb/s line-rate long-haul DWDM links, including $40{\times}40$ Gb/s transmission over KT's standard single-mode fiber optimized for 10 Gb/s achieves successful results. The proposed upgrading technique allows the Q-value margin for a 40 Gb/s line rate to be compatible with that of 10 Gb/s.
