The Symbols of the Body Image Expressed in Modern Fashion Design (현대 패션디자인에 표현된 신체이미지의 상징성)

  • This study is intended to understand an implication system and significance in the current community which a body image symbolizes by correlating it with fashion that is on the rise as a principal issue in various fields. For this study, the symbolism of the body image was contemplated in terms of philosophy and art, and then on the basis of it, the symbolism of the body image shown in modern fashion design was analyzed through fashion works. The research results are as follows, 1. The manifestation of sex can be taken as the symbolism of the body image which is expressed in modern fashion design. Recently sexual chaos and vagueness such as homosexuality and bisexuality are expressed through a dress and its ornaments. Though displaying sexual characteristics of male and female as they are exposing a sign or a diagram, decorating a part of body or representing sex in garments, uncertain sex identity in modern society is manifested in dress and its ornaments. It is to deny absoluteness regarding sex and emphasize diversity indwelt in human beings, and after all it shows to pursue the human essence. 2. Another symbolism of the body image is body expression as the human race and an ethnic group. The discriminating situations and the restoration of their status appeared in modern fashion too. Moreover, their cultures and issues came to alter the aesthetic standard of body made from a view of the Western white supremacist. Hereupon, fashion trends like ethnic fashion, Orientalism and African look etc. appear according to this tendency, which represents race and national identity and in addition, which signifies to present transcendental human conception embracing alienated human conception. 3. The symbolism of the body image expressed in a body, and a dress and its ornaments as nature can be considered in terms of the concern on environmental contamination and the respect of echo system. Getting away from reigning over, developing and stamping down nature at their will, the human beings pursue unity with nature, which is described in fashion. They are stressing that natural materials and objects such as animal, plant and soil etc. should activily be introduced into fashion and humans are a communal fate group and should reframe their status in nature at last. 4. The body image shown in a body, a dress and its ornaments as technology is transformed and recreated by modern scientific techniques and medical science to show post human conception namely, forthcoming future human conception as a cyborg which loses individual identity. This presents a perfect future human conception with high level of preternatural power but after all, leaves us a task to seek the meaning of human existence in alienation caused by the loss of human identity and existence. In this manner, the moderns crave for perceiving the identity of a natural human being in the current thoughts tendency of the modern times such as postmodernism, post structuralism, deconstructionism, feminism and so on, which build discussions affecting the art and fashion worlds. The categories, like sexual characteristics indwelt in a human body, racial classifications, the natural environment surrounding human beings and development of science, bring out the importance of the internal and external meaning in today's fashion which a human body contains, and present sew human conception in the coming future society.

Central diabetic insipidus associated with suspected pituitary gland tumor in a dog

  • A 12-year-old spayed female Yorkshire terrier dog was presented with two-weeks history of lethargy, mental dullness and polydipsia. Neurologic examination revealed proprioceptive defect of all limbs and loss of swallowing gag reflex. The dog revealed persistent dehydration, hypernatremia, hyperosmolarity and hyposthenuria. On magnetic resornance imaging (MRI), the mass were heterogeneous signality on T1 weighted images, hyperintense signality on T2 weighted image with contrast enhancement on hypothalamohypophyseal lesion. Based on these findings, the dog was suspected as having pituitary gland tumor. Through water deprivation test and response to desmopressin acetate (1-deamino-8-D-arginine, DDAVP), this case was diagnosed by central diabetes insipidus (CDI). This paper reports the clinical sign, MRI, response to the exogenous antidiuretic hormone of CDI due to suspected pituitary tumor in a dog and DDAVP administration was evaluated effective therapy to correct hypernatremia induced by CDI.

License-Plate Extraction for Parking Regulation Images with Various Background and Photographing Direction (다양한 배경과 촬영 방향에서 취득한 주차 단속 영상에서의 번호판 추출)

  • This paper presents an approach to extract license plates from parking regulation images which is captured in various photographing direction and complex background. first, we search each row at regular intervals starting from the bottom of a license-plate image, and we set up a rough region for a certain zone in which the sign of intensity vector changes frequently enough and color of license plate is detected enough, assuming it as a candidate location of a license plate. And then, we extract an elaborate area of a license plate by horizontally and vertically projecting vertical edges. Here, tar types of the private and the public, are easily classified according to the color of extracted plates. To evaluate proposed method, we used 200 actual regulation images. As a result, the proposed method showed extraction rate of 96%, which is 9% higher than the previous method using only intensity vector.

  • The purpose for this study shows general planning direction about showroom which can enhance sales promotion, and corporate image and through buyer negotiation increasing export. We can divide showroom as promotional showroom and institutional showroom as a whole. The results of this research can be summarized as follows : There is no uniformed design plan of display for the P.R of showroom. And they need independent business space. But, there is no attractive factors to fascinate their consumer and thus there is no sufficient service facility, Also, some more effective planning is needed to support their supervisors. I wish to suggest some planning direction on the basis of research problems : We need to divide four space- that is entrance space, display space management space, service space-to allocative effectively space for the purpose of charging product. P.R. We should set up uniformed design policy which can contribute P.R.-that is corporate color, unform . logotype, sign, pamphlet etc.

  • Relationship between medicine and iching is what has been followed to be inherited from the period of generation in iching. This writing examined the Thought of the Relation between Medicine and I- ching in Donguibogam. Donguibogam implies the thought that the principles in medicine and iching are same, and is the thought that is broadly spread in Donguibogam. Donguibogam is very rich in yi-yi-study(醫易學)-based contents, which are involved in research subjects of the relation between medicine and iching such as the theory of Taiji(太極) ba gua(八卦), the thought of human and nature, the thought of Yin and Yang, and sign system of gua(卦), and the theory of Image and Number.

A Clinical Report of Adult Acute Viral Hepatitis Type A Treated with Herbal Prescriptions

  • Owing to improvement of socioeconomic status during recent decades in Korea, incidence of hepatitis A has rapidly decreased, especially among children. However, this status has paradoxically caused a steady increase of adult patients with HAV infection, causing new medical issues associated with aggravated clinical symptoms. The present study reports an adult case of acute viral hepatitis type A treated with oriental medicine. The elevated biochemical findings(AST, ALT, gamma-GTP, bilirubin), physical symptoms (general weakness, nausea, right flank pain, itching sign), and serological makers (anti-HAV IgM and anti-HAV IgG) were normalized within four weeks. Also, sonographic examination showed a normal pattern on an enlarged liver image. This study informed us about the clinical capacity of oriental medicine for adult patients with acute viral hepatitis type A.

Correction for Misrecognition of Korean Texts in Signboard Images using Improved Levenshtein Metric

  • Recently various studies on various applications using images taken by mobile phone cameras have been actively conducted. This study proposes a correction method for misrecognition of Korean Texts in signboard images using improved Levenshtein metric. The proposed method calculates distances of five recognized candidates and detects the best match texts from signboard text database. For verifying the efficiency of the proposed method, a database dictionary is built using 1.3 million words of nationwide signboard through removing duplicated words. We compared the proposed method to Levenshtein Metric which is one of representative text string comparison algorithms. As a result, the proposed method based on improved Levenshtein metric represents an improvement in recognition rates 31.5% on average compared to that of conventional methods.

Shape-Based Classification of Clustered Microcalcifications in Digitized Mammograms

  • Clustered microcalcifications in X-ray mammograms are an important sign for the diagnosis of breast cancer. A shape-based method, which is based on the morphological features of clustered microcalcifications, is proposed for classifying clustered microcalcifications into benign or malignant categories. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed shape features, clinical mammograms were used to compare the classification performance of the proposed shape features with those of conventional textural features, such as the spatial gray-leve dependence method and the wavelet-based method. Image features extracted from these methods were used as inputs to a three-layer backpropagation neural network classifier. The classification performance of features extracted by each method was studied by using receiver operating-characteristics analysis. The proposed shape features were shown to be superior to the conventional textural features with respect to classification accuracy.

  • In this paper proposed a HMM(Hidden Martov Model)-based segmentation method which is able to model shadows as well as foreground and background regions. Shadow of moving objects often obstruct visual tracking. We propose an HMM-based segmentation method which classifies in real time oath objects. In the case of traffic monitoring movies, the effectiveness of the proposed method has been proven through experimental results

  • 본 논문에서는 MB-LBP(Multi-scale Block Local Binary Patterns)와 공간피라미드를 이용하여 생성된 특징을 랜덤 포레스트(Random Forest) 분류기에 적용하여 영상내의 표지판 속도를 인식하는 알고리즘을 제안한다. 입력 영상에서 표지판 영역은 다양한 위치와 크기를 가지며 주위 배경이 후보 영역에 포함되므로 먼저 입력 영상에 원형 Hough Transform을 적용하여 원형의 표지판 후보 영역만을 검출한다. 그 후 영상의 화질을 향상시키기 위해 히스토그램 평활화와 모폴로지 연산을 적용하여 표지판의 숫자 영역과 배경 영역의 대비를 높이도록 한다. 표지판의 크기 변화에 강건한 시스템의 구현을 위해 후보 영역에서 LBP(Local Binary Patterns)보다 우수한 성능을 보이는 MB-LBP를 적용하고, 다양한 크기의 속도 표지판을 인식하기 위해 공간 피라미드를 사용하여 지역적 특징과 전역적 특징 모두를 추출하였다. 추출된 특징은 랜덤 포레스트(Random Forest)를 이용하여 각 9개의 속도 표지판으로 분류, 각 속도별 클래스에 대한 인식 성능을 측정하였다.
