  • The accumulated knowledge of the influence of solar granulation on spectral lines, i.e. their asymmetry, provides a key to analyze stellar spectral line asymmetries. In this paper, a simple line synthesis using a simple 'model' of granulation was calculated. By adjusting the properties of the granule model, the observed imprints of convection on spectral lines can be reproduced. Since we depict convective flows using a continuous function rather than using a few components of flows (cf. Gray and Toner 1985, 1986; dravins 1990), we were able to identify which components of convection are important in line bisector shapes. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: Firstly, the intensity contrast (i.e. temperature fluctuation), and the area coverage of up- and down-flows are the two important factors which determine the line bisector shapes. Secondly, on the contrary to the assumption of other studies, the effect of horizontal flows is non-negligible. This exercise provides a qualitative understanding of the effect of convection on spectral lines. This knowledge serves as a guideline for understanding the characteristic difference in convection for stars on either side of the 'Granulation Boundary' (Gray 1982; Gray and Nagel 1989).

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate and to verification of changes that the effect of treadmill and body weight support treadmill training on balance and gait ability for sub-acute stroke patients during 4 week. Method: 16 subjects who was diagnosed stroke were divided into 2 groups(8-treadmill training group, 8-body weight support treadmill group) by randomized control trial. Both training programs were consisted with 40 minuted, 5 times a week for 4 weeks and after training programs. Analysis: We analysed effects and changes on balance and gait ability. Analyses were performed using PASW ver. 18.0 and results were reported as mean ${\pm}$ standard deviation (S.D.). To investigate within group comparisons and to verification on effects of exercise, we did paired t test and repeated measured ANOVA test. Significance was set at p<.05. Result: Both training programs showed positive changes in Limit of Stability but significant results which is area of hemiside, area of intact side, area of posterior, total area were reported in body weight support treadmill training group. Changes of Berg Balance Scale was significantly increase and it had significant correlation between groups. Changes of 6 Minutes Walking Test was significant increase in both groups but there was no significant changes on Foot print and Romberg test. Conclusion: After considering all factors, both training programs showed effect on improvement of balance and gait ability in sub-acute stroke patients, but body weight support treadmill training group had better improvement in dynamic balance than treadmill training group. For the increase of balance and gait ability in sub-acute stroke patients, we need to continues study on difference of treadmill and body weight support treadmill and then we will give stroke patients a better satisfaction if we develop and provide a rehabilitation program for improvement of balance and gait ability.

  • In this paper, numerical analysis by finite element method and parameter design by the Taguchi method were used to reduce warpage of a two passive components embedded double side substrate for PoP(Package on Package). The effect of thickness of circuit layers (L1, L2) and thickness of solder resist (SR_top, SR_BTM) were analyzed with 4 variations and 3 levels(minimum, average and maximum thickness) to find optimized thickness conditions. Also, paste effect of solder resist on unit area of top surface was analyzed. Finally, experiments was carried out to prove numerical analysis and the Taguchi method. Based on the numerical and experimental results, it was known that circuit layer in ball side of substrate was the most severe determining deviation for reducing warpage. Buried circuit layer in chip side, solder resist and were insignificant effects on warpage relatively. However, warpage decreased as circuit layer in ball side thickness increased but effect of solder resist and circuit layer in chip side thickness were conversely.

  • Although designing a virtual topology for all-optical WDM wide-area networks has been extensively studied and several algorithms have been proposed, these algorithms assumed error-free communication between two nodes. However, noises from optical amplifiers and optical cross-connects can degraded the signal, resulting in a nonzero bit-error rate. In this paper, we investigate the effect of physical limitations on the virtual topology design. We show that for side-area all-optical networks where transmission distance is fairly long, virtual topology design algorithm that can determine the locations of opto-electronic(OE) and electro-optic(EO) conversions to set up a connection request with a high BER in a multihop manner.

  • In this study, the computer simulation for the heat transfer in pulse combustion water heater is performed. The attention is focused to the effects of the installation of corebuster in the flue tube on heat transfer. The energy equations are established for both wall and gas side in the combustion chamber, flue way, exhaust chamber and muffler, and the numerical calculation is executed. Zone method takes longer computer calculation time compared with semi-zone method. Semi-zone method is chosen for numerical calculation. As a result of this study, it is found that the installation of the core buster in flue tube increases total heat transfer. It is also found that the total heat transfer is increased with the increasing of the ratio of the cross section area of corebuster to that of the flue tube. However, the heat transfer effect is negligible for the area ratio above 0.5.

  • Viscous solutions of supersonic jet impinging on a flat wall in a confined plenum are simulated using three-dimensional Navier-Stokes solver. A confined plenum was designed for simulating the missile launch and analyzing the behavior of the exhaust plume, which were accompanied by complex flow interactions with shock and boundary layer. Concerns of this paper are to show accurate simulation of internal flow in confined plenum and to demonstrate the jet flow structure when the jet interacts with a small opening on the side. Objectives of this numerical simulation are to understand the effect of changing the plume exit area of the plenum. Pressure and temperature rise at certain position in the plenum are traced and compared with test data.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the dynamic response of the mandible to impact and provide insight into the fracture mechanism of the mandible, by 3-dimensional finite element method. The finite element model of the mandible was developed and calculated using NASTRAN/XL (MSC co. U.S.A.) and the linear dynamic transient analysis was performed according to the impulsive force direction, force type and impulse time to the mandible. At first, the load was applied on the mandibular symphysis, body, angle and subcondylar area in the horizontal mandibular plane and the computed stress-time histories at 14 locations of the mandible were obtained. Secondly, the impulsive force was directed to the symphyseal area with changing the force magnitude and impulse time, and calculated the node displacement at 8 locations of mandible. The conclusions from from this study were as follows. 1. The appearance of impulsive energy transmission was different to the direction of impulse to the mandible. 2. The impulsive stress and deformation were larger in lingual or medial side than buccal or lateral in the mandible. 3. The velocity, appearance of energy transmission and the fracture pattern in mandible were affected rather impulse time than force. 4. The horizontal impact to the one side of mandible did not have effect on the stress and displacement of contralateral mandible. From the above results, fracture pattern in symphysis can be showed as simple or comminuted, multiple or associated in body and angle and solitary in subcondyle area.

  • Chitosan, hydroxycitrate and L-carnitine have been known to be antiobesity components. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the combined effects of chitosan, hydroxycitrate and L-carnitine mixture as a potential antiobesity supplement in overweight women. Pre-menopausal healthy females who were overweight (percent ideal body weight > 110) were included in this study. Forty-nine subjects randomly received a placebo (n = 25) or antiobesity-supplement (n = 24), which was a mixture of chitosan, hydroxycitrate, and L-carnitine. Before and after the eight-week experimental period, anthropometric parameters, blood components and computerized tomography were measured. At baseline, the two groups were well matched in terms of age, body mass index and lipid profile. After the eight weeks of potential antiobesity supplementation, the subjects' body fat percent had decreased significantly (p < 0.001) by 5.6% (39.1 $\pm$ 1 vs 36.9 $\pm$ 1%) while lean body mass increased (p < 0.01). Vsceral fat area at the L4 vertebra decreased significantly (p < 0.01) by 8.6% in the supplemented group and the total fat area at the L4 vertebra showed a tendency to decrease (p = 0.051) by 2.4%. Also, in the group given the antiobesity-supplement rather than the placebo, the fasting triglyceride level decreased significantly (p < 0.05) by 10.0%. In addition, serum total cholesterol levels in the antiobesity-supplement group showed a tendency to decrease (p=0.159) by 2.7% (194 $\pm$ 6 vs 189 $\pm$ 6 mg/dl). No side effects were found in either group during the intervention. In conclusion, the present study demonstrated that taking a mixture of chitosan, hydroxycitrate, and L-carnitine as a potential antiobesity supplement for eight weeks produced advantageous changes in the weight and visceral fat accumulation of overweight women without any side effects. • This study investigated the effect of extracorporeal shock wave therapy on nerve regeneration in nerve injured rats. In this study, we used 30 male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 230-280g and 6 weeks old. Study groups were divided into two groups using a random sampling method: experimental group (n=15) treated with extracorporeal shock wave after sciatic nerve injury and control group (n=15) treated without extracorporeal shock wave after sciatic nerve injury. In this study, extracorporeal shock wave therapy equipment (OPTIMUS, SALUS TALENT 3, Korea) was used to apply extracorporeal shock wave therapy and applied to the sciatic nerve crush area of the right hind limb using low intensity. We measured the stance time and stride distance of the affected side using dartfish software. There was a statistically significant difference in the change of stance time and stride distance of the affected side between the experimental group using extracorporeal shock wave therapy and the control group without extracorporeal shock wave treatment. In conclusion, extracorporeal shock wave therapy has a positive effect on nerve regeneration.
