Nowadays, more and more subway tunnels were planed and constructed underneath the ground of urban cities to relieve the congested traffic. Potential damage may occur in existing tunnel if the new tunnel is constructed too close. So far, previous studies mainly focused on the tunnel-tunnel interactions with circular shape. The difference between circular and horseshoe shaped tunnel in terms of deformation mechanism is not fully investigated. In this study, three-dimensional numerical parametric studies were carried out to explore the effect of different tunnel shapes on the complicated tunnel-tunnel interaction problem. Parameters considered include volume loss, tunnel stiffness and relative density. It is found that the value of volume loss play the most important role in the multi-tunnel interactions. For a typical condition in this study, the maximum invert settlement and gradient along longitudinal direction of horseshoe shaped tunnel was 50% and 96% larger than those in circular case, respectively. This is because of the larger vertical soil displacement underneath existing tunnel. Due to the discontinuous hoop axial stress in horseshoe shaped tunnel, significant shear stress was mobilized around the axillary angles. This resulted in substantial bending moment at the bottom plate and side walls of horseshoe shaped tunnel. Consequently, vertical elongation and horizontal compression in circular existing tunnel were 45% and 33% smaller than those in horseshoe case (at monitored section X/D = 0), which in latter case was mainly attributed to the bending induced deflection. The radial deformation stiffness of circular tunnel is more sensitive to the Young's modulus compared with horseshoe shaped tunnel. This is because of that circular tunnel resisted the radial deformation mainly by its hoop axial stress while horseshoe shaped tunnel do so mainly by its flexural rigidity. In addition, the reduction of soil stiffness beneath the circular tunnel was larger than that in horseshoe shaped tunnel at each level of relative density, indicating that large portion of tunneling effect were undertaken by the ground itself in circular tunnel case.
The purpose of present study is to investigate for reducing pressure fluctuations in the case of installing the air-shafts on the side wall of the tunnel with small cross-sectional area on conventional line. Experiments were performed with a 1/61-scale moving model rig for the tunnel of 0.764 km length in the condition of tunnel cross-section area of $28 m^2$. According to the results, the maximum pressure fluctuation is reduced by 45 % for 19 air-shafts. This results have the speed-up effects of about 33.4 km/h for the train running in tunnel.
The 3-dimensional unsteady compressible flows around the high speed train have been simulated for the train entering a tunnel and for passing another train. The simulation method employs the implicit approximation-factorization finite difference algorithm for the inviscid Euler equations in general curvilinear coordinates. A moving grid scheme is applied in order to resolve the train movement relative to the tunnel and the other train. The velo-city and pressure fields and pressure drag are calculated to study the effects of tunnel and the other train. The side directional force which is time dependent is also computed for the passing train. Pressure distribution shows that the compression wave is generated in front of the train noise just after the tunnel entrance and proceeds along the inside of tunnel.
In this paper, path loss characteristics in a curved subway tunnel are measured and analyzed. The measurement is carried out in the frequency bands of 2.45GHz and 5.8GHz. A directional antenna is employed for transmission and an omnidirectional antenna for reception. This measurement is performed in the subway tunnel in the vicinity of the Daejon station. The tunnel is curved and its cross section is arch-shaped. The path loss is measured with the location of the transmitter antenna fixed and the receiver antenna moving in the tunnel. The measured path loss ratio is about 0.1dBm/m. Also, the signal received from the antenna located on the outer side of curve in the tunnel experiences weaker path loss.

In this paper, we introduce the measurement of the underwater noise with 32channel hydrophone array of Samsung CAvitation Tunnel (SCAT) and the detection technique of noise sources by using the beam-forming method. Measurement and way signal Processing under fluid flow are essential works for the underwater acoustics, especially for the detection of noise sources. As the acoustic impedance of the water is relatively high and the tunnel is an enclosed system, we have to consider the interaction between tunnel and water together with the reflection of noise in the beam-forming technique. Also, for a hydrophone array system that is fixed on one side of tunnel wall as done in SCAT is liable to suffer from some limitations in the detection of the noise sources with the array, we discuss these limitations particularly on the frequency range and spacing of noise sources.
When we construct a road near an apartment complex, we consider a soundproof wall. To make residential places quieter, we may consider a soundproof road tunnel. Such a tunnel, however, would become highly concentrated with soot from vehicles whenever a traffic jam might occur. To create an optimum design, this study utilizes the PHOENICS-VR software. The work considers three cases: (1) no openings (2) openings at 30m intervals, and (3) openings at 60m intervals on the upper side of the tunnel. The study finds that in the second case shows CO concentration distributions were 15% less than those without openings. And the CO concentration distributions of the second and third cases are almost the same. The findings suggest that we should make the soundproof tunnel to reduce construction fees.

The longest tunnel has been halted at Daekwanryung by the failure of the host country of the Winter Olympiad in 2014, but modern High-Power TBM will come to Korea to excavate these long tunnels to establish the better horizontal connection between the western and eastern countries to improve the strong powerful logistic strategy of Korean peninsula. Train operation provides a key function of air movements in a long underground tunnel, and heat generation from transit vehicles may account of the most heat release to the ventilation and emergency systems. This paper indicates the optimal fire suppress services and safety provision for the long railway tunnel which is designed twin tunnel with length 22km in Gangwon province of Korea. The design of the fire-fighting systems and emergency were prepared by the operation of the famous long-railway tunnels as well as the severe lessons from the real fires in domestic and overseas experiences. Designers should concentrate the optimal solution for passenger's safety at the emergency state when tunnel fires, train crush accidents, derailment, and etc. The optimal fire-extinguishing facilities for long railway tunnels are presented for better safety of the comfortable operation in this hard rock tunnel of eastern mountains side of Korea. Since year 1900, hard rock tunnel construction has been launched for railway tunnels in Korea, tunnels have been built for various purposes not only for infrastructure tunnels including roadway, railway, subway, and but also for water and power supply, for deposit food, waste, and oils etc. Most favorable railway tunnel system was discussed in details; twin tunnels, distance of cross passage, ventilation systems, for the comfortable train operations in the future.

These Days a lot of Noise Complaints in vicinity of Railway has been more increase than before. Almost 1/3 Residences who lives in Railway side are Exposure to Noise Pollution. Since the Apartment Buildings around Railway are getting more higher, so those of the Noise Barrier are not best solution anymore. We are going to make a New Plane with the state of the art technology for Railway Noise Abatement Control. Our Goal are focus on a development of Light Weight Noise Tunnel designed by new absorption mat'l and tunnel Stucture on the Overbridge and Viaduct of existing Railway. New Noise Tunnel will be reducing their weight more than 30% against Road Traffic One and also 10dB(A) Noise Reduction against Noise Barrier.
Preliminary design of a ground plate, a device installed close to the aircraft model for wind tunnel test to simulate the ground effect, was performed by a numerical simulation. A two-dimensional numerical study was performed initially to decide the optimal leading edge and flap configurations. Then, three-dimensional studies were conducted to decide the optimal flap deflection angle for pressure distribution reduction since the plate and the plate supporting system generate static pressure difference between the upper and lower flow regions. Three-dimensional simulation additionally studied the effect of the clearance between the plate and the wind tunnel side wall. For the efficiency of computation, half model was simulated and a symmetric boundary condition was applied on the center plane. Based on the preliminary design, a ground plate was designed, manufactured and tested at the Korea Aerospace Research Institute(KARI) wind tunnel. The measured pressure differences versus flap deflection angle agreed well with the predicted results.
