Computed Tomography (CT), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR1) and some ultrasound techniques make it possible to obtain cross sections of human body or mechanical parts. In CAD system, a series of sectional surfaces can also be obtained from solid models of 3D objects. In this paper we introduce a tetrahedral meshing algorithm from these series of general sections using basic operators. In this scheme. general sections of three-dimensional object are triangulated first and side surfaces between two sections are triangulated by the use of tiling process. Finally tetrahedral meshing process is performed on each layer of 3D objects, which is composed of two general sections and one side surface.
Force distribution of incomplete meshing teeth for the OHC drive timing belt system is investigated analytically. Finite difference equations of the belt tension are derived based on the force equilibrium and the deformation of the belt tooth. From the numerical results, it is found that of the force distribution prior to the boundary point shows higher values compared with those of the complete meshing state and the force distribution after the boundary point shows lower values. Also, the magnitude of the incomplete meshing region increases as the rotational speed increases and the tight side belt tension decreases.
When operating lathe gear box which is equipped with geared transmission, it sometimes generates loud noise and excessive vibrations. In order to identify their causes, in this study, torsional and lateral vibration characteristics including critical speeds of the gear transmission system are firstly analyzed using lumped parameter models. Natural frequencies and mode shapes of the gear box structure are also analyzed by using the modal test. Furthermore, measured vibration and noise signals during operations are analyzed and compared with theoretical analysis results. After all, it is concluded that the primary cause of the excessive noise and vibrations is the resonance between gear meshing frequency including its side bands, the frequencies of shaft bending and torsional vibrations, and the natural frequencies of the gear box structure. Consequently the noise and vibration levels are greatly reduced by avoiding resonance between the natural frequencies and gear meshing frequencies through the rearrangement of the gears on the transmission shaft without any gear ratio change.
Applying the conjugate contact condition, contact lines of a cylindrical worm gear has been calculated. The characteristics of tooth contact were analyzed and the pitting resistance were also assessed. It has been verified that: i) the length of contact is shortest on the 1st tooth of the front region, ii) the contact region is more narrow in the recess side than in the access side, iii) the contact region is more narrow in worm than in worm wheel. Hence, the pitting resistance is weakest in the recess side of the 1st contacting worm tooth.
The use of the finite element method for biomechanical analysis is increasing rapidly in recent years. Since biomechanical models are usually in very complex shapes, it takes a lot of time and efforts to build reasonable finite element models. In this paper, a new tetrahedral meshing algorithm from the series of 2-D computed tomography(CT) images has been proposed. In this scheme, the planar sections of three-dimensional objects and the side surfaces between two planar sections are triangulated first, and then an advancing front algorithm is employed to construct tetrahedral elements by using basic operators. A sample finite element model for thoracic vertebra is presented.
Presented herein is a numerical study for evaluating the aerodynamic behaviour of equipped bridge deck sections. In the first part, the method adopted is described, in particular concerning turbulence models, meshing requirements and numerical approach. The validation of the procedure represents the aim of the second part of the paper: the results of the numerical simulation in case of two-dimensional, steady, incompressible, turbulent flow around a realistic bridge deck are compared to the data collected from wind-tunnel tests. In order to demonstrate the influence of the section details and of the partial streamlining of the deck geometry on its aerodynamic behaviour, in the third part of the paper the effect of the fairings and of each item of equipment of the section (such as central barriers, side railings and sidewalks) is evaluated. The study has been applied to the deck section of the Normandy cable-stayed bridge.
The rotor design is fundamental to the performance and dynamic response of the Counter-rotating marine tidal current turbine. The wind industry has seen significant advancement single rotor blade technology, offering considerable knowledge and making it easy to transfer to tidal stream energy converters. In this paper, 3D flow and performance an alysis on a 100 kW counter-rotating marine current turbine blade was carried out by using the 3-D Navier-Stokes commercial solver(ANSYS CFX-11.0) to provide more efficient design techniques to design engineers. The front and rear rotor diameter is 8m and the rotating speed is 24.72rpm. Hexahedral meshing was generated by ICEM-CFD to achieve better quality of results. The rated power and its approaching stream velocity for design are 100 kW and 2 m/s respectively. The pressure distribution on the blade's suction side tells us that the pressure becomes low at the leading edge of the airfoil as it moves from the hub to the tip.
When operating NC lathe, gear box which is equipped with gear train and spindle sometimes generates loud noise and excessive vibrations. In order to identify their causes, In this study, torsional and lateral vibration characteristics including critical speeds of the gear train-spindle system are first analyzed by using torsional and lateral vibration models of the gear train and shafts. Natural frequencies and modes of the gear box structure are also analyzed by impulse hammer test. Furthermore, measured vibration and noise signals are analyzed and compared with theoretical analysis results. At last it is concluded that the cause of the excessive mise and vibration is the resonance between gear meshing frequency including its side bands, shaft bending and torsional vibration frequencies, and the natural frequencies of th gear box structure. Consequently the noise and vibration levels are greatly reduced by avoiding resonance between them through the redesign of the gear module.

In recent years, there are so many serious crashes involving coaches, especially the frontal collision occupies 40% of the front of the vehicle, Frontal collisions account for 100% of the front of the vehicle affecting the driver and side-impact collisions that injure the person in the vehicle. Therefore, the research into improving and optimizing the structure is necessary for risk of injury for passengers in frontal accidents. In this paper, we have designed a Shock absorber that can absorb collision energy. Research using HYPERMESH software. to build the finite element model and calculate the meshing to suit the mesh size of 5mm. apply LS-DYNA software to calculate structural strength. In the study, for a vehicle to collide with a hard obstacle occupying 100% of the head of the vehicle. Then, the experimental design method, Minitab is used for find the structural parameters in the design. Improvement results showed that the acceleration of the impact on passengers and the driver is decreased by 55,17%. The mass of texture improvements is reduced by 11%, according to the requirements of European Standards ECE R94.
The BARC flow is studied via Direct Numerical Simulation at a relatively low turbulent Reynolds number, with focus on the geometrical representation of the leading-edge (LE) corners. The study contributes to further our understanding of the discrepancies between existing numerical and experimental BARC data. In a first part, rounded LE corners with small curvature radii are considered. Results show that a small amount of rounding does not lead to abrupt changes of the mean fields, but that the effects increase with the curvature radius. The shear layer separates from the rounded LE at a lower angle, which reduces the size of the main recirculating region over the cylinder side. In contrast, the longitudinal size of the recirculating region behind the trailing edge (TE) increases, as the TE shear layer is accelerated. The effect of the curvature radii on the turbulent kinetic energy and on its production, dissipation and transport are addressed. The present results should be contrasted with the recent work of Rocchio et al. (2020), who found via implicit Large-Eddy Simulations at larger Reynolds numbers that even a small curvature radius leads to significant changes of the mean flow. In a second part, the LE corners are fully sharp and the exact analytical solution of the Stokes problem in the neighbourhood of the corners is used to locally restore the solution accuracy degraded by the singularity. Changes in the mean flow reveal that the analytical correction leads to streamlines that better follow the corners. The flow separates from the LE with a lower angle, resulting in a slightly smaller recirculating region. The corner-correction approach is valuable in general, and is expected to help developing high-quality numerical simulations at the high Reynolds numbers typical of the experiments with reasonable meshing requirements.
