This study analyzes changes in the knees, hips, and hip joint length according to the different angles of bending knees by 45°, 90°, and 135° respectively for knees, hips, and the hip joint that have high fracture rates when falling down. The research subjects were 10 elderly women in their 60s (or older) that obtain data collected through direct measurement. For analysis, the study drew a diagram of elongation and shrinkage based on changes and change rate from a straight posture (0°) and conducted a statistical analysis on differences of body surface length by zone according to movements. The more the knees were bent, the vertical surface length in front of the knees, the horizontal surface length above the knee line, the horizontal body surface length below the knee lines on the back, and the vertical surface lengths between front side lines and the side lines increased; however, the vertical surface length on the back decreased. For the hip joint, the difference in the vertical surface length was more distinctive when compared to the horizontal. Finally, the horizontal surface length increased below the hips and the vertical surface length increased in most areas except the sidelines and the front. The result of the change in body surface length according to the movements of this study can be utilized in the development of the motion-variable protector.
Chang San-roe re-explained the contents from the 30th question to the 47th question of "Nan Jing" which refered to the Chang-Pu and physiological theories as follows through the western theory which wss different from the tranditioonal chinese theory 1. "Nan Jing" refered to the circulation and the coming into being of Yeong-Wi. He denied that it was classified Yeong from Wi or Eum from Yang. 2. He denied that Sam-Cho was separated to three parts and the theory of "Sam-Cho is name only, not shape", using western medical theory. 3. He denied the view about "Left side is kidney, right side is Myung-Mun" because it was incorrect that kidney was separated to two parts which were Su and Hwa or Eum and Yang 4. Re-explaining the contents of "Nan Jing"- the portions of heart and lungs, the rising and falling of liver and lungs, the relationships of five viscera and sound color smell taste fluid, the relationships of five viscera and nine hole, the relationships of five viscera and O-Chu, the physiological difference of the old and the young owing to the deflection of Yeong-Wi Chi-Heol- he thought that viewing the human body using theory of Eum and Yang, Five elements(五行) was a far-fetched interpretation, so he denied the tranditional chinese theory which understood human body's organs, physiology, pathology. 5. He explained the contents of "Nan Jing"- the portions of the colon and the small intestines, the funtion of the six bowls, the corespondence of Chang-Pu, physical peculiarity of liver, the anatomical aspects which were the sizes, weights, volumes and shapes of the Chang-Pu and the alimentary canal, Chil-Chung-Mun, Pal-Hoe-Hyeolthrough western anatomy and physiology in detail.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the changes in postural stability according to ankle fixation in healthy university students. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Thirty healthy subjects (15 males and 15 females, 20.13 years, 167.49 cm, 65.87 kg) were recruited on a voluntary basis. The BT4 system (HUR Laps Oy, Tampere, Finland) was used to measure the static (standing posture with eyes open and eyes closed) and dynamic (external perturbation and limits of stability (LOS) in the forward, backward, left, and right side) balance abilities. External perturbation was measured by the subject's postural sway velocity and area for 20 seconds after being impacted by a gym ball. Static and dynamic stabilities were measured with ankle joint fixation and non-fixation conditions. Ankle fixation was provided using Mueller tape on both ankle joints. Results: For static stability under the standing posture, there was no significant difference between standing with ankle joint fixation and non-fixation conditions. However, dynamic stability (external perturbation and LOS in the forward, backward, left, and right side) was significantly higher in the standing with the non-fixation condition compared to the standing with ankle joint fixation condition (p<0.05). Conclusions: Our results reveal that ankle joint fixation can influence dynamic stability during standing. Thus, we believe that this result provides basic information for making improvements in postural control and may be useful in balance training for fall prevention.
Background: Only 2% of falls in older adults result in serious injuries (i.e., hip fracture). Therefore, it is important to differentiate injurious versus non-injurious falls, which is critical to develop effective interventions for injury prevention. Objects: The purpose of this study was to a. extract the best features of surface electromyography (sEMG) for classification of injurious falls, and b. find a best model provided by data mining techniques using the extracted features. Methods: Twenty young adults self-initiated falls and landed sideways. Falling trials were consisted of three initial fall directions (forward, sideways, or backward) and three knee positions at the time of hip impact (the impacting-side knee contacted the other knee ("knee together") or the mat ("knee on mat"), or neither the other knee nor the mat was contacted by the impacting-side knee ("free knee"). Falls involved "backward initial fall direction" or "free knee" were defined as "injurious falls" as suggested from previous studies. Nine features were extracted from sEMG signals of four hip muscles during a fall, including integral of absolute value (IAV), Wilson amplitude (WAMP), zero crossing (ZC), number of turns (NT), mean of amplitude (MA), root mean square (RMS), average amplitude change (AAC), difference absolute standard deviation value (DASDV). The decision tree and support vector machine (SVM) were used to classify the injurious falls. Results: For the initial fall direction, accuracy of the best model (SVM with a DASDV) was 48%. For the knee position, accuracy of the best model (SVM with an AAC) was 49%. Furthermore, there was no model that has sensitivity and specificity of 80% or greater. Conclusion: Our results suggest that the classification model built upon the sEMG features of the four hip muscles are not effective to classify injurious falls. Future studies should consider other data mining techniques with different muscles.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to provide the basic data to develop the effective nursing intervention for the parent who have children with cancer by acquiring the deeper understanding of the mothers' adjustment of caring for their children with cancer. Methods: The ethnographic research method was used to find out the pattern of caring adjustment in Korean cultural context. Informants consisted of 12 mothers who were caring for their children with cancer. The data were collected using in-depth interviews, participant observation, and telephone interviews by maximum variation purposive sampling. The data were analyzed following Spradley's methodology. Results: The mothers' caring adjustment were organized into one cultural theme, four categories, and twelve properties. The cultural theme was 'standing alone as a mother with sin'. The four categories were 'blaming for falling illness', 'overcoming with motherhood', 'desperate struggling with side effects', and 'establishing new network as a dependent'. Conclusion: For the mothers who are caring children with cancer, the supportive nursing intervention based on the deeper understanding of mothers' pattern of caring adjustment for their children and centered on facilitating effective adjustment in each cultural context especially from the very early stage of caring in the hospital ward is extremely required.

In the present study, three-dimensional motion analyses were performed to determine biomechanics of the lower extremity in unexpected missing foot steps for ten healthy young volunteers. In unexpected missing foot steps, the whole plantar surface of the foot or the heel contacted to the ground. A rapid ankle dorsiflexion was found right after missing foot steps and an increased plantarflexion moment was noted during loading response. After the unexpected situation, the breaking force increased rapidly. At this time, both tibialis anterior and soleus were simultaneously activated. Moreover, the range of motion at ankle, knee and hip significantly decreased during stance. In pre-swing, rectus femoris and biceps femoris prevented the collapse of the lower limbs. During late stance, propulsive forces decreased and thus, both plantarflexion moment and power generation were significantly reduced. On the opposite side, hip extension and pelvic upward motion during terminal swing were significant. Due to the shortened pre-swing, the energy generation at the ankle to push sufficiently off the ground was greatly reduced. This preliminary study would be helpful to understand the biomechanics of unexpected dynamic perturbations and valuable to prevent frequent falling of the elderly and patients with gait disorders.

This study was performed for the purpose of analyzing the effect of tide on the stress-strain behavior in the boundary surface of sea dike embankment. Tide is a dynamic condition, but there are not suitable numerical models to solve the dynamic embankment condition caused by tide. So the analysis was simplified to quasi dynamic as follow. First, seepage by tide was analyzed according to elapsed time, and the results of the analysis at every hour during one periodic cycle time of 12 hours were applied to the pore water pressure conditions of stress-strain analysis with hyperbolic model by Duncan and Chang. The place at which maximum shear strain took place in the analysis result moved up and down repeatedly along the boundary of the dredged sand fill section and the crashed stone filter section. The value of maximum shear strain was large at high water level of tide. This result means that contraction and relaxation occur in turn repeatedly at every specific position along the boundary, and the repeated action compact loose position with sand moved down from the upper position by gravity. The experiment with the small sea dike model showed the result consistent with the numerical analysis. The surface of sea side on the dike collapsed at high water level after a couple of repetition of the rising and falling of water.

Execute surface of the earth geological survey for stability analysis of stealing cutting sides and investigated wide area nature of soil structure. Inflected DIPS that measure discontinuity's direction that develop to slope and is slope stability a wide use program for Stereographic Projection Method analysis that utilize geometrical correlation of stealing four sides and discontinuity surface. It is principle that angle of internal friction that is basis element of stability estimation applies direct shear test result on joint side, Examination is impossible by case execution, suppose by 30 angles that apply more conservatively in base rock slope sides usually and achieved analysis. When analyze, consider discontinuity's various adult that develop in research slope, after conduct first each discontinuity different assay falling into fault, joint, executed stability estimation which synthesize whole discontinuity data. When ailment element is recognized as analysis result, wished to present stability countermeasure way of most suitable to take into account of execution, stability, economic performance.

In this paper, we propose a neural net system for speech recognition, which is composed of two neural networks. Firstly the self-supervised BP(Back Propagation) network generates the distributed concept corresponding to the activity pattern in the hidden units. And then the self-organizing neural network forms a concept map which directly displays the similarity relations between concepts. By doing the above, the difficulty in learning the conventional BP network is solved and the weak side of BP falling into a pattern matcher is gone, while the strong point of generating the various internal representations is used. And we have obtained the concept map which is more orderly than the Kohonen's SOFM. The proposed neural net system needs not any special preprocessing and has a self-learning ability.
Human body is hard to be in perfect balance during walking. Most of time the trunk is supported by one leg and the center of mass(COM) falls to the contralateral side. Thus, dynamic variables such as the velocity of the COM should be considered when gait stability is evaluated. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the extrapolated center of mass(XCom) which utilized the COM position and its velocity, is appropriate to evaluate gait stability. Ten healthy adults participated in this study and performed 3 different types of gaits(normal(NG), hands on waists(HWG), and hands on shoulders(HSG)) onto 4 different types of obstacle(obstacle height: 0%, 30%, 40% and 50% of leg length). Medio-lateral Com-CoP and XCom-CoP inclination angle were calculated during support phase. For all condition, greater M-L XCoM-CoP inclination angles were found(p<.05) compared with those of matched obstacle height CoM-CoP. Especially, M-L XCoM-CoP inclination angle at 50% height revealed the best condition for monitoring dynamic stability. Significantly increased in M-L XCoM-CoP inclination angle was found(p<.05) as obstacle height increased on NG and HWG.
