  • Cross docking is a logistics management concept in which items delivered to a terminal by inbound trucks are immediately sorted out, routed and loaded into outbound trucks for delivery to customers. Two main advantages by introducing a cross docking terminal are to consolidate multiple smaller shipment into full truck load and remove storage and order picking processes to save up logistics costs related to warehousing and transportation costs. This research considers the scheduling problem of trucks in the cross docking terminals with multi-door in an inbound and outbound dock, respectively. The trucks sequentially deal with the storage process at the one of inbound doors and the shipping process at the one of the outbound doors. A mathematical model for an optimal solution is derived, and genetic algorithms with two different chromosome representations are proposed. To verify performance of the GA algorithms, we compare the solutions of GAs with the optimal solutions and the best solution using randomly generated several examples.

  • Companies that use automatic feeder systems use multiple feeders in close proximity to each other for mass production. Unlike when the feeder is used independently, it does not oscillate to a value that is set to offset or freeze due to symbiosis caused by asynchronous forces hitting each other. This may result in the shipment being damaged by hitting each other or thrown to one side, preventing the transport from being moved to the next process. Whenever an unstable resonance occurs, the operator must reset the value of each feed controller or operate it several times. To address these problems, this paper proposes synchronization algorithm suitable for feed controllers using multiple units and tests are used to confirm performance improvements.

  • This paper intends to evaluate the policies which are considered necessary to enhance the T/S competitiveness of Busan's port, and thereby present suggestions to the government which would best implement the results of this research. This research first raises the claim that the majority of the following four conditions: location of the port, port productivity/service level, status of network with overseas ports, and cost competitiveness, should be satisfied in order to maintain a competitive T/S port. Based on these four conditions, seven policies, which are individually pertinent to the four conditions, have been drawn up for proposal, and they are also analyzed in the survey, where all the eligible samples participate to ensure if they are effective in enhancing the T/S competitiveness of Busan. Proposed important policies are a) Terminal operator integration, b) port infrastructure expansion, c) global carriers owned terminal operation, d) enhancement of national carrier's competitiveness, e) feeder carriers' owned terminal operation in new port, f) institutional support for effective and convenient environments for handling T/S cargo, and g) volume incentive expansion. From the analysis by which all the relevant parties (Carriers, Terminal Operators, Port Authority) are answered, it was found that all the seven policies have relevance in strengthening the transshipment competitiveness of Busan's port. Whereas in the analysis that uses AHP methodology to compare the significance among the different policies, it was found that terminal operator integration has the highest priority in terms of increasing transshipment competitiveness.

  • This study attempted to analyze the trade in goods effect of the Korea-ASEAN FTA by using logistics performance index, which are evaluation indicators of logistics industry workers on the logistics environment and logistics system in international trade. The World Bank's logistics performance index are six indicators: customs clearance, logistics infra, ease of shipment, logistics services, goods tracking abilities, and on-time transportation. The purpose of this study was to examine how it affects commodity trade between Korea and ASEAN states using the gravity model using panel data. Through this, it was confirmed that logistics performance index affect the increase in commodity trade.

  • TRIUMF, Canada's particle accelerator centre, is constructing a new high-power ISOL (Isotope Separation On-Line) facility called ARIEL (Advanced Rare IsotopE Laboratory). Thick porous targets will be bombarded with up to 48 kW of 480 MeV protons from TRIUMF's cyclotron, or up to 100 kW of 30 MeV electrons from a new e-linac, to produce short-lived radioisotopes for a variety of applications, including nuclear astrophysics, fundamental nuclear structure and nuclear medicine. For efficient release of radioisotopes, the targets are heated to temperatures approaching 2000 ℃, and are exposed to GSv/h level radiation fields resulting from intended fissions and spallations. Due to these conditions, the operational life for each target is only about five weeks, calling for frequent remote target exchanges to limit downtime. A few days after irradiation, the targets have a residual radiation field producing a dose rate on the order of 10 Sv/h at 1 m, requiring several years of decay prior to shipment to a national disposal facility. TRIUMF is installing new remote handling infrastructure dedicated to ARIEL, including hot cells and a remote handling crane. The system design applies learnings from multiple existing facilities, including CERN-ISOLDE, GANIL-SPIRAL II as well as TRIUMF's ISAC (Isotope Separator and ACcelerator).

  • Re-manufacturing is the process of recovering the function and performance of the original product through a re-assembly process such as a new product assembly process after reprocessing by recovering used products or parts that are in the disposal stage at the end of their lifespan. One of the manufacturing methods. The remanufacturing industry is important not only in terms of environmental protection, but also in terms of economics. The success or failure of the industry as a whole depends on trust in products and price competitiveness. Image processing systems are used to reduce labor costs and improve product reliability in the product manufacturing process. In this study, foreign substances and defects that are difficult to identify with the human eye are detected by using the pre-processing step of determining whether to recycle the drum and image processing immediately before shipment after regenerating the drum to regenerate the waste drum.

  • There is increasing interest in the rapid and highly sensitive monitoring of cell viability in biological and toxicological research. Conventional methods depend on optical assays using Water Soluble Tetrazolium-8 (WST-8) or 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazolyl-2)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay, which requires a large volume of samples and special instruments, necessitating shipment of clinical samples to laboratories. This paper reports on the development of a rapid and sensitive electrochemical (EC) sensor using screen printed electrode (SPE) and surface modification using 4'-mercapto-N-phenylquinone diamine (4'-NPQD), as double electron mediators, for monitoring cell viability via the measurement of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH). We used the sensor to observe the viability of MCF-7 and doxorubicin (Dox)-treated cells. The oxidation current of NADH was measured via chronoamperometry (CA), and the EC results showed a good linear relationship when compared with NADH quantification using WST-8 assay. The analysis time was only 10 s and limit of detection (LOD) of NADH was 1.78 µM. Our EC method has the potential to replace conventional WST assays for cell viability and cytotoxicity experiments.

  • This study was conducted as a basic study for the selection of tags suitable for logistics management in the palletized unit-load unit and the development of various technologies to activate the palletized unit-load shipment of agricultural products through local APCs. Three types of passive RFID tags of UHF 900 MHz and one type of active RFID tag of 2.4 GHz band designed and manufactured through this study were used to analyze the receiving strength according to the tag's attachment location and distance of the palletized unit-load of agricultural products. In the passive RFID tag, there was a large difference in receiving strength by the tag's attachment location and a large amount of data loss depending on the distance within 30 m, whereas, in the active RFID tag, it was superior to the passive tags in terms of both receiving strength and data loss. Therefore, active tags are desirable from the perspective of multiple identification of warehouses with large spaces in relation to the application of RFID tags for palletized unit-loads of agricultural products, but the development of low-power technologies such as software wakeup power management as well as hardware to minimize battery power consumption is necessary.

  • The archaeological remnants of coastal ports and shipwrecks serve as invaluable heritage sites that provide profound insights into historical maritime activities conducted by humans. Cross-regional voyages occurred as early as the beginning of the first millennium, aided by the increasing knowledge of the monsoons. Along with expanding intra- and inter-sailing routes, the improved seaworthiness of vessels facilitated the movement of people and seaborne commodities. The names of the Indic, Kunlun, and Persian ships appear in various historical accounts written in the latter half of the first millennium, and the structural details and characteristics can be physically examined by looking at shipwrecks. Southeast and East Asian shipwrecks from the eighth to the fourteenth century provide a perspective on the dynamism of types of seagoing ships involved in long-distance trade. By examining the remnants of cargo being transported by these ships, we begin to understand how the system of cross-regional shipment of heavy and bulky items, metal objects, fragrant woods, glass, and ceramics sustained and impacted the religions, societies, culture, and regional economies. Furthermore, it helps define the Maritime Silk Route heritage to be managed and protected. As such, this paper gives the archaeological evidence of port ruins and wrecks and also introduces, as an example, a case from Central Vietnam.
