  • This paper proposes a new haptic cue vehicle accelerator pedal device using magnetorheological (MR) brake. As a first step, an MR fluid-based haptic cue device is devised to be capable of rotary motion of accelerator pedal. Under consideration of spatial limitation, design parameters are optimally determined to maximize control torque using finite element method. The proposed haptic cue device is then manufactured and integrated with accelerator pedal. Its field-dependant torque is experimentally evaluated. Vehicle system emulating gear shifting and engine speed is constructed in virtual environment and communicated with the haptic cue device. Haptic cue algorithm using the feed-forward control algorithm is formulated to achieve optimal gear shifting in driving. Control performances are experimentally evaluated via feed-forward control strategy and presented in time domain.

  • In this paper, a three-key triple data encryption algorithm (TDEA) of a digital cryptosystem based on phase-shifting interferometry is proposed. The encryption for plaintext and the decryption for the ciphertext of a complex digital hologram are performed by three independent keys called a wavelength key k1(λ), a reference distance key k2(dr) and a holographic encryption key k3(x, y), which are represented in the reference beam path of phase-shifting interferometry. The results of numerical simulations show that the minimum wavelength spacing between the neighboring independent wavelength keys is about δλ = 0.007 nm, and the minimum distance between the neighboring reference distance keys is about δdr = 50 nm. For the proposed three-key TDEA, choosing the deviation of the key k1(λ) as δλ = 0.4 nm and the deviation of the key k2(dr) as δdr = 500 nm allows the number of independent keys k1(λ) and k2(dr) to be calculated as N(k1) = 80 for a range of 1,530-1,562 nm and N(dr) = 20,000 for a range of 35-45 mm, respectively. The proposed method provides the feasibility of independent keys with many degrees of freedom, and then these flexible independent keys can provide the cryptosystem with very high security.

  • As a unique form of signed-digit representation, non-adjacent form (NAF) minimizes Hamming weight by removing a stream of non-zero bits from the binary representation of positive integer. Thanks to this strong point, NAF has been used in various applications such as cryptography, packet filtering and so on. In this paper, to improve the NAF conversion speed of the $NAF_w$ algorithm, we propose a new NAF conversion algorithm, called w-bit Shifting Non-Adjacent Form($SNAF_w$), where w is width of scanning window. By skipping some unnecessary bit comparisons, the proposed algorithm improves the NAF conversion speed of the $NAF_w$ algorithm. To verify the excellence of the $SNAF_w$ algorithm, the $NAF_w$ algorithm and the $SNAF_w$ algorithm are implemented in the 8-bit microprocessor ATmega128. By measuring CPU cycle counter for the NAF conversion under various input patterns, we show that the $SNAF_2$ algorithm not only increases the NAF conversion speed by 24% on average but also reduces deviation in the NAF conversion time for each input pattern by 36%, compared to the $NAF_2$ algorithm. In addition, we show that $SNAF_w$ algorithm is always faster than $NAF_w$ algorithm, regardless of the size of w.

  • With the development of mobile devices and intelligent surveillance system loaded with pan/tilt cameras, object tracking with non-stationary cameras has become a topic with increasing importancy. Since it is difficult to model a background image in a non-stationary camera environment, colors and texture are the most important features in the tracking algorithm. However, colors in the background similar to those in the target arise instability in the tracking. Recently, we proposed a robust color based tracking algorithm that uses an area weighted centroid shift. In this letter, we update the model such that it becomes more stable against background colors. The proposed algorithm also incorporates time filtering by adding an additional energy term to the energy functional.

  • We describe a new method for selecting design variables for shape optimization of high-voltage gas circuit breaker using a Kriging meta-model and a genetic algorithm. Firstly we sample balance design variables using the Latin Hypercube Sampling. Secondly, we build meta-model using the Kriging. Thirdly, we search the optimal design variables using a genetic algorithm. To obtain the more exact design variable, we adopt the boundary shifting method. With the proposed optimization frame, we can get the improved interruption design and reduce the design time by 80%. We applied the proposed method to the optimization of multivariate optimization problems as well as shape optimization of a high - voltage gas circuit breaker.

  • Two-step quadrature phase-shifting digital holography based on the calculated intensity of a reference wave is proposed. In the Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) architecture, the method only records two quadrature-phase holograms, without reference-wave intensity or object-wave intensity measurement, to perform object recoding and reconstruction. When the reference-wave intensity is calculated from the 2D correlation coefficient (CC) method that we presented, the clear reconstruction image can be obtained by some specific algorithm. Its feasibility and validity were verified by a series of experiments with 2D objects and 3D objects. The presented method will be widely used in real-time or dynamic digital holography applications.

  • Motion estimation and compensation in the spatial domain check the searching area of specified size in the previous frame and search block to minimize the difference with current block. When we check the searching area, it consumes the most encoding times due to increasing the complexity. We can solve this fault by means of motion estimation using shifting matrix in the transform domain instead of the spatial domain. We derive so the existed shifting matrix to a new recursion equation that we decrease more computations. We modify simply vertical shifting matrix and horizontal shifting matrix in the transform domain for motion estimation of half-pixel accuracy. So, we solve increasing computation due to bilinear interpolation in the spatial domain. Simulation results prove that motion estimation by the proposed algorithm in DCT-based transform domain provides higher PSNR using fewer bits than results in the spatial domain.

  • A new optical asymmetric cryptosystem is proposed by modifying the asymmetric RSA public-key protocol required in a cryptosystem. The proposed asymmetric public-key algorithm can be optically implemented by combining a two-step quadrature phase-shifting digital holographic encryption method with the modified RSA public-key algorithm; then two pairs of public-private keys are used to encrypt and decrypt the plaintext. Public keys and ciphertexts are digital holograms that are Fourier-transform holograms, and are recorded on CCDs with 256-gray-level quantized intensities in the optical architecture. The plaintext can only be decrypted by the private keys, which are acquired by the corresponding asymmetric public-key-generation algorithm. Schematically, the proposed optical architecture has the advantage of producing a complicated, asymmetric public-key cryptosystem that can enhance security strength compared to the conventional electronic RSA public-key cryptosystem. Numerical simulations are carried out to demonstrate the validity and effectiveness of the proposed method, by evaluating decryption performance and analysis. The proposed method shows feasibility for application to an asymmetric public-key cryptosystem.

  • This paper proposed a new modular inverse algorithm based on the right-shifting binary Euclidean algorithm. For an n-bit numbers, the number of operations for the proposed algorithm is reduced about 61.3% less than the classical binary extended Euclidean algorithm. The proposed algorithm implementation shows substantial reduction in computation time over Galois field GF(p).

  • This paper proposes a driver supportive device with haptic cue function which can be applicable for vehicles adopting manual transmission system to transmit gear-shifting information to a driver by kinesthetic forces. This haptic cue function is implemented on accelerator pedal by utilizing magnetorheological(MR) fluid and clutch mechanism. In order to achieve this goal, an MR clutch mechanism is devised to be capable of rotary motion of accelerator pedal. The proposed MR clutch is then optimally designed and manufactured under consideration of spatial limitation of vehicles. After transmission torque is experimentally evaluated according to field intensity. The manufactured MR clutch is integrated with accelerator pedal and electric motor to establish the haptic cue device. Control performances are experimentally evaluated via a simple feed-forward control algorithm.
