  • China has countless ancient books that contain thousand years of continuously recorded history across every generation. It is essential to organize the ancient cultural literature in order to better communicate. The study of ancient Chinese literature recently has become a subject of priority. Shi-Ji, one of the representative documents, is used for record keeping because of its experience with ancient Chinese historic materials and artifacts. This draft of Shi-ji is based on ancient Chinese research methods with the purpose to explore the character, phonology, syntax, exegesis and collation of historical value.

  • The epochs of observation for the 28 determinative stars in the Shi Shi Xing Jing and Cheonsang Yeolcha Bunyajido are estimated by using two fitting methods. The coordinate values in these tables were thought to be measured with meridian instruments, and so they have the axis-misalignment errors and random errors. We adopt a Fourier method, and also we devise a least square fitting method. We do bootstrap resamplings to estimate the variance of the epochs. As results, we find that both data sets were made during the 1st century BCE or the latter period of the Former Han dynasty. The sample mean of the epoch for the SSXJ data is earlier by about 15-20 years than that for the Cheonsang Yeolcha Bunyajido. However, their variances are so large that we cannot decide whether the Shi Shi Xing Jing data was formed around 77 BCE and the Cheonsang Yeolcha Bunyajido was measured in 52 BCE. We need either more data points or data points measured with better precision. We will discuss on the other 120 coordinates of stars listed in the Shi Shi Xing Jing.

  • Shi (2000) claims that topics must be related to a syntactic position in the comment, thus denying the existence of dangling topics in Chinese. Under Shi's analysis, the dangling topic sentences in Chinese are not topic-comment but subject-predicate sentences. However, Shi's arguments are not without problems. In this paper we argue that topics in Chinese can be licensed not only by a syntactic gap but also by a semantic gap/variable without syntactic realization. Under our analysis, all the dangling topics discussed in Shi (2000) are, in fact, not subjects but topics licensed by a semantic gap/variable that can turn the relevant comment into an open predicate, thus licensing dangling topics and deriving well-formed topic-comment constructions. Our analysis fares better than Shi's in not only unifying the licensing mechanism of a topic to an open predicate without considering how the open predicate is derived, but also unifying the treatment of normal and dangling topics in Chinese,

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of A-Shi point acupuncture on the post-stroke hand edema. Methods : The subjects in this study were 8 patiens with post-stroke hand edema. The patients were treated with acupuncture on A-Shi point in hand. We treated them once a day, 7 days. The effectiveness was assessed by hand volumeter and mesuring tape. And Wilcoxon signed rank test was performed to evaluate the effect. Results : A significant change was observed after 7 times acupuncture treatment. Both volume and circumference of hand were decreased after treatment. Conclusions : This study suggests that A-Shi point acupuncture is effective for reducing post-stroke hand edema, although further study would be necessary.

  • This study was conducted to improve the durability and decrease the friction of the sintered bushing used in the joints of construction equipment. Research was carried out to examine the effects of the groove pattern on the inner surface. The following results were obtained: (1) The bushing (EK Bush) with grooves on the inner diameter showed increased durability as compared to a non-grooved bushing. (2) The helical-grooved bushing showed the least amount of wear; it was 1/10 of the wear of the non-grooved bushing. (3) If the distance between grooves was decreased, then the coefficient of friction also decreased.

  • Objectives : Yiyuan(醫原) written by Shi Shoutang(石壽棠) is well known for its focusing on the concept of dryness and dampness in medical theory. This study was done to analyze the formation process of main academic thought in Yiyuan, which included tracing its original sources that had made it possible to construct the main idea in this book. Methods : Firstly, Yiyuan was analyzed in comparison with Yili(醫理) by Yu Guopei(余國佩), which is regarded as the main origin of Yiyuan. And secondly, many diverse medical theories before Yu Guopei and Shi Shoutang was scrutinized to understand the process of the construction of dryness/dampness-centered medical theory. Results & Conclusions : Shi Shoutang took over the main idea of Yu Guopei and expanded it both in theoretical and clinical aspects. Especially, the most remarkable contribution by Shi Shoutang can be said that he used the astronomical theory which had the concept of multi-layered heaven and intensified the theoretical basis of medical theory emphasizing the significance of dryness and dampness. Besides, Shi Shoutang's medical theory was a thing which was also based on many cumulative assertions about dryness and dampness before him. Yu Jiayan's assertion on dryness and dampness could be acknowledged as the most influential one, and it also could be said that the arguments surrounding the property of dryness had formed the main question in the development of medical theory centered on dryness and dampness.

  • Objects : To evaluate clinical efficiency of The A-Shi point for the herniated lumbar intervertebral disc. Methods : The patients who had a diagnosis of herniated lumbar intervertebral disc by lumber CT and MRI, and were observed from the twentieth March 2000 to the tenth Novemsber 2000, were divided into two classes ; the "A" group was 15 cases practiced with Acupuncture treatment used of A-Shi point and the twelve-Meridian, the "B"group 15cases only Acupuncture treatment used of twelve-Meridian, Results : the most type of low back pain was, the Gall bladder channel of Foot-souyang 15 cases (50%) and the Gall-Bladder Meridian Muscle was 45 cases the most in the existence part of A-Shi point On the result of treatment due to clinical symptoms, the "A" group was 57.9% as excellent and "B" group 19.8%. On the measurement of Lumber flexion, the "A" group proceed more excellent result than the "B group at the whole grade. Conclusion : These results suggest that The A-shi point was effective treatment of herniated intervertebral disc.

  • Objectives : This study is to determine the effects of magnetics therapy on the relief of premenstrual syndrome and dysmenorrhea among female college students. Methods : 20 female college students in a university are selected to the experimental group. All of the subjects have the score of more than 6 on the visual analogue scale for measuring the level of premenstrual pain. The data was collected by using questionnaires. The magnetics therapy on the Dong Shi Acupuncture Therapy extra points (婦科, 還巢, 木婦, 門金) was administered to the experimental group. Results : The results were as follows. The first hypothesis is supported ; the experimental group who received magnetics therapy on the Dong Shi Acupuncture will decrease premenstrual syndrome. The second hypothesis is supported ; the experimental group who received magnetics therapy on the Dong Shi Acupuncture will decrease dysmenorrhea. Conclusions : As a result of this study, magnetics therapy on the Dong Shi Acupuncture will be able to be used as the self care therapy to improve the symptoms of females with the premenstrual syndrome and dysmenorrhea.
