벼 유전자원의 아밀로스 및 단백질 성분 함량 분포에 관한 자원정보 구축 (Construction of Database System on Amylose and Protein Contents Distribution in Rice Germplasm Based on NIRS Data)

  • This study was carried out to build a database system for amylose and protein contents of rice germplasm based on NIRS (Near-Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy) analysis data. The average waxy type amylose contents was 8.7% in landrace, variety and weed type, whereas 10.3% in breeding line. In common rice, the average amylose contents was 22.3% for landrace, 22.7% for variety, 23.6% for weed type and 24.2% for breeding line. Waxy type resources comprised of 5% of the total germplasm collections, whereas low, intermediate and high amylose content resources share 5.5%, 20.5% and 69.0% of total germplasm collections, respectively. The average percent of protein contents was 8.2 for landrace, 8.0 for variety, and 7.9 for weed type and breeding line. The average Variability Index Value was 0.62 in waxy rice, 0.80 in common rice, and 0.51 in protein contents. The accession ratio in arbitrary ranges of landrace was 0.45 in amylose contents ranging from 6.4 to 8.7%, and 0.26 in protein ranging from 7.3 to 8.2%. In the variety, it was 0.32 in amylose ranging from 20.1 to 22.7%, and 0.51 in protein ranging from 6.1 to 8.3%. And also, weed type was 0.67 in amylose ranging from 6.6 to 9.7%, and 0.33 in protein ranging from 7.0 to 7.9%, whereas, in breeding line it was 0.47 in amylose ranging from 10.0 to 12.0%, and 0.26 in protein ranging from 7.0 to 7.9%. These results could be helpful to build database programming system for germplasm management.

  • Plants have evolved along with pathogens, and they have developed sophisticated defense systems against specific microorganisms to survive. G-protons are considered one of the upstream signaling components working as a key for the defense signal transduction pathway. For activation and inactivation of G-protein, GTP-biding proteins are involved. GTP -binding proteins are found in all organisms. Small GTP-binding proteins, having masses of 21 to 30kD, belong to a superfamily, often named the Ras supefamily because the founding members are encoded by human Ras genes initially discovered as cellular homologs of the viral ras oncogene. Members of this supefamily share several common structural features, including several guanine nucleotide binding domains and an effector binding domain. However, exhibiting a remarkable diversity in both structure and function. They are important molecular switches that cycle between the GDP-bound inactive form into the GTP-bound active form through GDP/GTP replacement. In addition, most GTP-binding proteins cycle between membrane-bound and cytosolic forms. such as the RAC family are cytosolic signal transduction proteins that often are involved in processing of extracellular stimuli. Plant RAC proteins are implicated in regulation of plant cell architecture secondary wall formation, meristem signaling, and defense against pathogens. But their molecular mechanisms and functions are not well known. We isolated a RacB homolog from rice to study its role of defense against pathogens. We introduced the constitutively active and the dominant negative forms of the GTP-hinging protein OsRacB into the wild type rice. The dominant negative foms are using two forms (full-sequence and specific RNA interference with RacB). Employing southern, and protein analysis, we examine to different things between the wild type and the transformed plant. And analyzing biolistic bombardment of onion epidermal cell with GFP-RacB fusion protein revealed association with the nucle.

지체장애 주부의 가사노동 대처방안에 대한 사례연구 (The disabled homemakers Copping Strategies on Housework)

  • This research is to understand the actual conditions of the degrees of housework share, the usage of kitchen equipments, the adjustments of residence, and community service to understand difficulties on housework that disabled homemakers can have, and to present possible copping strategies for homelife improvement of disabled homemakers. The major findings of this study can be summarized as follows : 1) Main difficulties are that the disabled homemakers feel when performing housework are the preparation of meals, doing dishes, doing laundry, cleaning up etc, which are the essential parts of ones homelife. 2) The result shows that having a rice cooker, a refrigerator, and a stove is a necessity for the disabled homemakers and that the degree of usage is pretty high. 3) Most of the disabled homemakers lack basic adjustments for the disabled in their residence such as the adjustments of the height of shelves. 4) Considering that they do not recognize community service for them, and most of them are not covered by any service, we can conclude that community service for disabled homemakers is not run enough.

경기 지역 소비자의 주류 소비 행태 및 약주에 대한 인식 조사 (Consumption of Alcoholic Beverages and Perception about Korean Yakju in the Gyunggi Area of Korea)

  • This study was conducted to investigate consumer behavior and perception related to alcoholic beverages and Korean rice wines (yakju). Self-administered questionnaires were collected from 254 male and female adults in the Gyunggi-area of Korea. Male respondents were significantly more likely to drink more often, consume greater amounts and spend more on alcoholic beverages. Male respondents preferred, in order, soju, beer and wine. Female respondents preferred, in order, beer, wine and soju. Most of the respondents (69.2%) showed conservative consumption behaviors, and indicated they would drink a new product when it became popular. Flavor/taste was the most important attribute when selecting alcoholic beverages. The reasons for drinking yakju were "high quality" and "considering health". The most answered reason for low market share of yakju was lack of publicity and marketing.

Evaluation of Agri-Environmental Performance of Convention on Biological Diversity Using Winter Paddy Field in Korea

  • Winter migratory birds gather in paddy rice fields to feed shed rice grains. The Korean Ministry of Environment has practiced a policy program Contract on Paddy Field Management (CPFM) during winter fallow since 2002. This program starts with a contract between local governments and farmers, and the government pays a differential subsidy to farmers who finish spreading rice straw, cultivating barley, letting the whole rice plant without harvest, and submerging paddy fields for winter migratory birds. As more local governments have operated CPFM program, the total area on the contract and subsidy budget has increased yearly since 2002. This program could have its stable position as a successful policy by giving profits to farmers. With the program extended, the population of winter migratory birds has been greatly. For the evaluation of environmental performance of a policy, we analyzed this CPFM program by introducing some indicators in the form of Driving Force-State-Response Framework. The indicators were composed of 3 categorized indicators; the area of paddy land contracted under this program as 'driving force' indicator, population of birds, the number of bird species and the amount of feces as 'state' indicators, and the size of monetary support, the number of farmers or local governments participating, and public perception as 'response' indicators. The contract area of paddy field under CPFM could be a good biodiversity indicator reflecting potential performance of this policy measure in the light of its linkage to the population of winter migratory birds. And the share of CPFM land of the whole agricultural land might also be used as a useful indicator of policy evaluation for improvement of wildlife diversity. The 'state' indicators such as population of birds and the number of bird species could be matched to 'driving force' indicator, but the total CPFM area of each site could not reflect the effect of areas under different management practices. However, the amount of bird feces could reflect differences in environmental performance with management practices as 'state' indicators. The development of indicators indicating 'response' such as farmers' behavior, public perception, and policy makers' willingness is also needed to support a successful implementation and improvement of this policy measure with the development of 'performance' indicators integrating all these indicators.

식물성(植物性) 유기질(有機質)의 부숙과정중(腐熟過程中) 부식특성(腐植特性)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) -III. 볏짚과 보리짚부식산(腐植酸)의 산가수분해(酸加水分解) 용액중(溶液中) Amino 산(酸)의 함량(含量) (A Study on the Characteristics of Humic Materials Extracted from Decomposing Plant Residues -III. Amino Acids in the Acid Hydrolysates of Humic Acids Extracted from Straw of Rice and Barley)

  • 벼와 보리짚을 부숙(腐熟)시키면서 경시적(經時的)으로 시료(試料)를 채취(採取)하여 부식산(腐植酸)을 추출정제(抽出精製)한 산가수분해(酸加水分解)한 용액중(溶液中)에 함유(含有)되어 있는 amino 산(酸)의 양(量)과 분포상태(分布狀態)을 조사(調査)한 결과(結果)는 다음과 같다. 1. 부식산(腐植酸)의 가수분해액중(加水分解液中)에 함유(含有)되어 있는 amino 산(酸)은 종류(種類)에서나 그 분포상태(分布狀態)에서 볏짚과 보리짚에 따라 차이가 있었다. 2. 두 시료(試料) 공(共)히 중성(中性) amino 산(酸)이 가장 많이 함유(含有)되어 있었으며 산성(酸性) amino 산(酸)과 염기성(鹽基性) amino 산(酸)의 순서로 함유(含有)되어 있었다. 3. 단위부식산당(單位腐植酸當) 총(總) amino 산(酸)의 양(量)으로 볼 때 볏짚이 보리짚의 함량(含量)보다 많았다. 4. 부숙화(腐熟化)가 진행(進行)될수록 lysine의 양(量)은 증가(增加)한 반면 histidine의 양(量)은 감소(減少)했으며, glycine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid, alanine, leucine 등(等) 5가지의 amino 산(酸)이 전경우를 통해 주(主)된 성분(成分)이었다. 5. 부숙화(腐熟化)된 두 식물체(植物體)의 부식산(腐植酸)에는 arginine이 함유(含有)되어 있지 않았다. 6. phenylalanine과 tyrosine은 전시료(全試料)에서 검출되었으며 이들은 부식산(腐植酸)이 지니고 있는 aromaticity에 기여한다고 판단되었다.

Functional properties of an alternative, tissue-specific promoter for rice NADPH-dependent dihydroflavonol reductase

  • A deletion analysis of the Oryza sativa dihydroflavonol reductase (DFR) promoter defined a 25 bp region (-386 to -362) sufficient to confer pericarp-specific expression of ${\beta}$ -glucuronidase(GUS) reporter gene in transgenic rice. Site-specific mutagenesis of these conserved sequences and subsequent expression analysis in calli which transiently expressed the mutated promoter::GUS gene showed that both bHLH (-386 to -381) and Myb (-368 to -362) binding sites in the DEL3 (-440 to 70) promoter were necessary for complete expression of the GUS gene including the tissue-specific expression of DFR::GUS gene. The GUS gene was expressed well in the mutated Myb (-368 to -362) binding site, but not as strong as in normal condition, implying that the Myb is also necessary to express GUS gene fully. Also, we found the non-epistatic relation between Rc and DFR. There were no changes of expression patterns GUS under the Rc and rc genotypes. Thus, DFR expression might be independent of the presence of functional Rc gene and suggested that Rc and Rd (DFR) share the same pathway controlling the regulation of flavonoid synthesis but not a direct positive transcriptional regulator of DFR gene.

Accounting for the Water Footprint Impact of Food Waste within Korean Households

  • Globally, the demand for food and water resources are increasing rapidly with the growing concerns of meeting the projected population upsurge, specifically by 2050. The global population is projected to hit 9.8 billion in 2050 while the food demand is expected to increase by 77% from the 2007 base year. Moreover, the already scarce water resources, especially in the food-producing regions, expected to be significantly affected as food production already accounts for over 70% of the global water resources. However, the estimated food demand encapsulated the actual demand for both human consumption and animal feed in addition to the exuberant food waste at the consumption stage of the supply chain, notably in the developed countries. Managing the food consumption demand and food waste can have across-the-board benefits on water resources and other associated food production impacts. This study assessed the water-saving potentials through food waste in Korean households using the food waste data obtained from the direct weighing analysis. The household food waste collection and characterization were carried out during the summer (July), fall (September), and winter (December) seasons of 2019. The water footprint related to the food waste within Korean households was based on the water footprint concept, i.e. indirect water use. The results of our estimation showed that an average Korean household wasted 6.15 ± 4.36 kg daily, amounting to 12.53 ± 11.10 m3 of water resources associated with the waste. On the per capita basis, an average of 0.024 ± 0.017 kg/capita/day of food was wasted resulting to 0.049 ± 0.044 m3/capital/day of water resources wasted. The food waste types that accounted for the principal share in the water footprint were beef, soybean, rice and pork with values 30.7, 10.1, 9.6, and 7.5%, respectively. Considering that the production of meat and meat products are water intensive and the agricultural water use in Korea is largely for rice production, addressing the food waste of these two important agricultural products can be a hotspot for water saving potential in the country. This study therefore provides an insight to addressing the water scarcity in the country through reducing household food waste.

핵심 농기계(트랙터, 콤바인 및 이앙기) 시장 및 기술 현황 분석 (Analysis of Market and Technology Status of Major Agricultural Machinery (Tractor, Combine Harvester and Rice Transplanter))

  • 이 연구는 국산 농기계의 내수 및 수출 경쟁력 제고방안을 도출하고자, 최근 5년간 한국과 일본산의 핵심 농기계에 대한 가격과 시장점유율을 분석하고, 양국 종합형업체의 매출액, 연구개발비 및 특허출원 현황을 분석하고, 높은 시장점유율을 보인 양국 핵심 농기계 대표모델의 성능, 품질 및 가격을 분석하였다. 2016년 우리나라의 4대 농기계 제조사의 연 매출 규모는 1,984-5,249억 원으로, 일본 주요 제조사의 2.7-15.7% 수준이다. 내수시장에서 일본산 농기계의 시장점유율은 트랙터 14.5%, 콤바인 31.1%, 이앙기 35.8%로 확대일로에 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 트랙터의 규격별 가격과 시장점유율을 분석한 결과, 국산 트랙터는 80 ps급 이상 대형일수록 가격경쟁력이 떨어질 뿐만 아니라 시장점유률도 감소하였다. 국산 콤바인의 시장점유율은 자탈형 4조식과 6조식에서 증가하였으나, 가장 많이 공급된 5조식 콤바인(전체의 49.0%를 차지)은 지난 5년간 85.0%에서 60.7%로 감소하였다. 이는 국산 5조식 콤바인 가격이 일본산의 90.7-108.6%로 가격경쟁력 약화에 기인한 것으로 판단된다. 6조식 이앙기(전체의 88.7%를 차지)중에서 국산이 62.6-68.0%를 유지하는 것으로 분석되었다. 국산 6조식 가격은 일본산의 83.1-85.5% 수준으로 가격 경쟁력이 있지만, 가격 차이가 3,690-4,420천원에 불과하여 시장 점유율이 확대되지 못한 것으로 판단된다. 국내 종합형업체의 농기계부문 매출액은 일본 종합형업체의 2.7-15.7%로 크게 낮고, 종업원 1인당 매출액은 일본의 43.9-81.5%에 불과하여 낮은 생산성을 보이고 있다. 연구원 수는 일본의 13.2-28.1%로 낮았으나, 종업원수 대비 연구원수 비율은 145-176.5%로 오히려 더 높았다. 또한 매출액 대비 연구개발비의 비중은 일본 구보다사 보다 123.1-153.8%로 높게 나타났다. 또한, 국내 농기계 산업과 내수시장을 위협하고 있는 일본 제조사의 국내 특허등록은 2010년 이후 급속한 증가세로, 2016년 기준으로 트랙터의 58.5%, 콤바인의 79.9%, 이앙기의 69.8%를 차지하고 있어 기술권리성 확보가 심각한 상태이다. 특히 핵심 농기계에 대해 일본의 국내 특허등록은 주요 핵심기술에 집중되었는데, 트랙터는 본체·변속장치에 37%, 콤바인은 본체·탈곡장치에 54%, 이앙기는 본체에 57%가 집중된 것으로 분석되었다. 따라서 기술권리성 확보 및 내수시장 방어를 위해 제조사의 자체 연구개발비를 증액과 더불어 정부지원 R&D와 특허의 정량적인 출원·등록을 연계하는 제도적 보완 및 지원확대가 필요하다. 국내에서 높은 시장점유율을 보인 양국 핵심 농기계 대표모델의 성능, 품질 및 가격, 가격차이(국산-수입산)/농가소득, 시장점유율을 분석한 결과, 일본산 트랙터의 가격은 국산 대비 130.8-136.3% 고가이고, 농가소득 대비 가격차이율은 37.6%, 시장점유율은 0.1-0.2%를 보였다. 콤바인은 가격 92.0-110.2%에서 가격차이율 -14.2-18.3%와 시장점유율 6.2-8.1%를, 이앙기는 각각 117.0-120.4%, 9.9-11.9%, 5.5-16.1%를 보여, 시장점유율은 농기계의 가격과 농가소득 대비 가격차이 비율에 높은 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 농기계의 경쟁력 강화를 위해서는 단기적으로 고장이 적어야 한다. 내수시장에서 국산 농기계는 가격대비 품질이 낮고 고장빈도가 높아 농가로부터 신뢰성과 시장점유율이 크게 감소하였다. 따라서 고장빈도가 높은 부품의 내구성 향상과 고품질 부품 개발, 부품 표준화 등을 담당하는 전문연구기관의 설립이 필요하다. 또한 중장기적으로 현재까지의 선진기술 추격과 응용기술 개발에서 탈피하여 핵심 요소기술개발에 역점을 두어야한다. 이를 위한 기술 로드맵 수립, 산학연 협력 확대와 정부의 연구개발비 증액, 산업체의 구조조정과 기술혁신이 필요하다.

한식의 기호학적 특성에 관한 연구 (Study on the Semiotic Characteristics for Korean Food)

  • This study sought to identify unique semiotic codes of Korean cuisine, including table settings, service styles, service ware selection, cooking techniques, and the logic behind menu composition. This research also aimed to verify that yangnyomjang reflects the code of Korean food culture. One of key findings from this study was that hidden codes of Korean food were found in their daily set-up for bapsang (dining table), which was found to decodify polysemic characteristics with an emphasis on harmony. These semiotic codes were influenced by the yin and yang philosophy and impact dining activities in our daily lives. Korean bapsang, composed of bap (rice), guk (soup) and banchan (side dishes), helps every individual diner share the semiotic codes of Korean cuisine within the context of paradigm and syntagm. Yangnyomjang, a major component of the Korean menu, also represents a unique code of Korean cuisine in its structure, main ingredients, production, and usage. This study also mathematically verified that a synchronic table setting of Korean cuisine provides diners with more opportunities for potential flavor combinations, compared to the Western service setting.
