Width variation of the top and bottom ends of steel at finishing rolling in a plate, has been investigated. It was found that width variation after finishing rolling is affected by edging, broadside rolling ratio, longitudinal rolling ratio, width shape after broadside rolling, temperature, width-to-thickness ratio, and so on. A neural network modelling of back propagation has been conducted on the width variation during rolling. Based on these prediction models, a width control system, by which the roll opening and closing of the hydraulic AWC edger can be adjusted during edge rolling in finishing rolling passes, has been developed. Compared to conventional width model, the neural network model is much accurate in a model. The width control system is applied to a newly built production mill.
Forward slip is an important parameter often used in rolling-speed control models for tandem hot strip rolling mills. In a hot strip mill, on-line measurement of strip speed is inherently very difficult. Therefore, for the set-up of the finishing mill, a forward slip model is used to calculate the strip speed from roll circumferential velocity at each mill stand. Due to its complexity, most previous researches have used semi-empirical methods in determining values for the forward slip. Although these investigations may be useful in process design and control, they do not have a theoretical basis. In the present study, a better forward slip model has been developed, which provides for a better set-up and more precise control of the mill. Factors such as neutral point, friction coefficient, width spread, shape of deformation zone in the roll bite are incorporated into the model. Implementation of the new forward slip model for the control of a 7-stand hot strip tandem rolling mill shows significant improvement in roll speed set-up accuracy.

Roll profile design in spape rolling with a complex-shaped part depends on the designer's experience, which is general, is acquired through costly trial-and-error process. As a prerequisite for developing a scientific approach to roll profile design, we present a finite element model to simulate 3-D deformation of complex-shaped parts occuring in multi-pass sequence. Demonstrated is the process model's capability to deal with rolling of a complex-shaped part.
The numerical analysis of elastohydrodynamic lubrication for the ball and roller bearings is performed in order to study the effect of the number of rolling elements and the shaft load on the minimum film thickness. A finite difference method and the Newton-Raphson method are used in the analysis. For a given shaft load, the maximum load of rolling element is determined along with the number of rolling elements. And then the minimum film thickness is calculated for several rolling bearings. The shape of film thickness and the pressure distribution are also studied.
H-beams are generally produced by hot rolling composed of a Break Down Mill (BDM) and a Finishing Mill (FM). The goal of the current study was to develop BDM rolling of H300x300 beams from blooms slit from slabs. In order to manufacture H300x300 beams, the caliber design and the pass schedule of BDM rolling were proposed for a bloom instead of a beam blank. The proposed BDM caliber design and pass schedule were tested using FE-simulation and pilot tests. For the major shape dimensions, such as flange width, web height, web thickness, as well as BDM rolling loads, a comparative analysis between the FE-simulation and the pilot rolling tests was conducted. The results of FEM analysis and pilot rolling tests showed good consistency. Moreover, BDM rolling loads were predicted to be in the range of allowable rolling loads. It was concluded that the designed BDM rolling is suitable for implementation within current manufacturing capacity.

It is very important to find out causes of strip pinching for the high quality of products and for the stable operation of hot roiling system. We have examined the strip pinching from three points of view to find out the causes of strip pinching in hot rolling system: strip shape, rolling operation conditions, and behavior of strip. Wedge, off center, and difference of rolling force through CMD are found to possibly provide major initial causes of strip pinching. Generally strip pinching occurred in the tail of strip. Thus, computer simulations by using a FEM code were also carried out to find out the initial mechanism of strip pinching depending upon the force and geometric boundary conditions at the time of strip tail rolling. The strong compression force effect due to the sudden release of strip tail from the work roll and non-uniform strip tail shape (ex. Tongue tail) across the CMD were found to provide possible major causes of strip pinching.

The steel plate for shadow mask is used in a Cathode-ray tube of TV monitor and is the strictest product in surface quality because hundreds thousand of holes are perforated in a plane of 25 ${\times}$25 inches. To mass-produce this product, a reversible cold rolling mill for silicon steel was used and the rolling technology and the activity for quality improvement are described in this work. Because the steel plate is a mild steel, which is very sensitive to strip-breakage even in a low tension, we reset the minimum tension values matching to the operating conditions. The roll mark due to the multi-segmented araangement of shape controlling roll was prevented by hardening the intermediate shape controlling roll and by changing the existing working-roll into a HSS (Hig Speed Steel) roll. The scratch caused by the speed difference between a idle roll and a strip was prevented by increasing the roll roughness. With these activities, the steel plate for shadow mask can be stable. The continuous improvement of quality is, however, required for the customer satisfaction both of domestic and overseas market.

Leaves are an important organism for photosynthesis and transpiration. The shape of leaf is crucial factor affecting plant architecture. V-shape leaf rolling is enhancing canopy photosynthesis by increasing the CO2 penetration and the light capture by reducing the shadow between the leaves. Therefore, moderate leaf rolling is thought to more high grain yield per area than flat leaf. We investigated 278 KRICE_CORE accession's Adaxial Leaf Rolling Index (LRI) in first heading using the following equation. For each accession, genomic DNA was used for sequencing. We sequenced the genomics with ~8 X coverage to detect SNPS. Raw reads were aligned against the rice reference (IRGSP 1.0) for SNP identification and genotype calling. To generate genotype data for GWAS, SNPs were filtered with minor allele frequency 0.05. Finally, 841,134 high-quality SNPs were used for our GWAS. The significant threshold was -log10(P)>7.23. From the results, 2 significance SNP were detected. Considering the LD block of 250kbp, 60 candidate gene were selected including Hypothetical gene and Conserved gene. In this poster, we analyzed candidate gene affecting adaxial Leaf Rolling through single-trait GWAS.
