This study proposes to develop a 3D printed re-entrant(RE) strip by shape memory thermoplastic polyurethane that can be deformed and recovered by thermal stimulation. The most suitable 3D printing infill density condition and temperature condition during shape recovery for mechanical behavior were confirmed. As the poisson's ratio indicated, the higher the recovery temperature, the closer the poisson's ratio to zero and the better the auxetic properties. After recovery testing for five minutes, it appeared that the shape recovery ratio was the highest at 70℃. The temperature range when the shape recovery ratio appeared to be more than 90% was a recovery temperature of more than 50℃ and 60℃ when deformed under a constant load of 100 gf and 300 gf, respectively. This indicated that further deformation occurred after maximum recovery when recovered at a temperature of 80℃, which is above the glass transition temperature range. As for REstrip by infill density, a shape recovery properties of 100% was superior than 50%. Additionally, as the re-entrant structure exhibited a shape recovery ratio of more than 90%, and exhibited auxetic properties. It was confirmed that the infill density condition of 100% and the temperature condition of 70℃ are suitable for REstrips for applying the actuator.

Shape memory is physical phenomenon which a platically metal is restored to its original shape by a solid state phase change by heating. TiNi alloy the most effective material in the shape memory alloy(SMA). To study(measure) recovery stress of intelligent composite. Ti50-Ni50 shape memory matrix with prestrain SMA fiber. When SMA fiber of the intelligent composite is heated over austenite starting temperature(As) by electric heating. a recovery stress are generated. The recovery stress of the intelligent composite was measured by strain gage or photoelastic experiment. Measuring method of recovery stress by photoelastic experiment was developed in this research. It was certified that photoelastic experiment was more effective and more precise than strain gage method in the measurement of recovery stress.
Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) copolymers cross-linked with pentaerythritol, a four-way cross-linker, are prepared to compare their mechanical and shape memory properties with the one cross-linked by glycerol. Composition of PEG and pentaerythritol is varied to search for the one with the best mechanical and shape memory properties. The highest shape recovery rate is observed for the copolymer composed of 30 mol% PEG-200 and 2.5 mol% pentaerythritol. Four-way cross-linking by pentaerythritol significantly improves shape recovery rate and retention of high shape recovery rate after repeated use compared to the one cross-linked by glycerol, a three-way cross-linker, and difference and advantage of additional cross-linking point are discussed.
The tensile deformation and shape recovery behaviors were studied in Ni-Ti shape memory wires showing different transformation characteristics by annealing at $200{\sim}600^{\circ}C$. Both R phase ${\rightarrow}$ B19' martensitic transformation at lower temperature and B2 ${\rightarrow}$ R phase transformation at higher temperature occurred in the shape memory wires annealed at $200{\sim}500^{\circ}C$. Transformation temperature and heat flow of B19' martensite increase but those of R phase main almost constant even with increasing annealing temperature. In the case of wires annealed and then cooled to $20^{\circ}C$, plateau on stress-strain curves in tensile testing can be observed due to the collapse of R phase variants and the formation of deformation-induced B19' martensite. In the case of wires annealed and then cooled to $-196^{\circ}C$, however, plateau on stress-strain curves does not appear and stress increases steadily with increasing tensile deformation. Comparing shape recovery rate with cooling temperature after annealing, shape recovery rate of the wire cooled to $20^{\circ}C$ is higher than that of the wire cooled to $-196^{\circ}C$ after annealing, and maximum shape recovery rate of 95% appears in the wire annealed at $400^{\circ}C$ and then cooled to $20^{\circ}C$. $R_s$ and $R_f$ temperatures measured during shape recovery tests are higher than $A_s$ and $A_f$ temperatures measured by DSC tests even at the same annealing temperature.

In this paper, the electro-chemical-machining characteristics of Ni-Ti Shape Memory Alloy(SMA) was investigated. From the experimental results, the optimal electro chemical machining conditions for satisfying the machining quality(fine surface & high recovery stress) might be confirmed. And it was concluded that optical electro chemical condition for Ni-Ti SMA could be obtained at approximately 100% current efficiency and high frequency pulse current.

Actuators using shape memory alloys use the one-way shape recovery stress. But when external load is applied the accumulated plastic strain induced by repeated deformation is the factor of generation of uncorrect recovery stress and unreliability. To solve this problem, two-way shape memory effect (TWSME) is considered. TWSME induced by plastic deformation have advantages including simple heating cycle without external force and enough recovery force for using actuators. but there is no research on cylinder-type or tube-type shape memory alloy actuators using two-way shape memory effect until now. Therefore in this study, characteristics of two-way shape memory effect is verified through the compression experiments using cylinder-type and tube-type specimens.
Shape memory polyurethane (SMPU), grafted with a fluorescent dye (Rhodamine, Mehylene violet, or Fluorescein) through an allophanate linking, was tested for the fluorescence and the shape recovery effect. The main chain of SMPU was composed of 4,4'-methylenebis(phenylisocyanate) (MDI), poly(tetramethyleneglycol) (PTMG), and 1,4-butanediol (BD), and a fluorescent dye was connected through a second MDI linked to the carbamate moiety of the main chain. Three series of SMPU, differing according to their dye content, were prepared to compare their shape recovery and fluorescence properties. In tensile mechanical property, maximum stress increased up to 350% compared to the linear SMPU, and strain remained above 2000%. Shape recovery went to as high as 97%, and remained almost same after repetitive shape recovery test cycles. Finally, the fluorescence emission of SMPU was demonstrated in the luminescence spectrum and fluorescent light emission pictures. In addition, the response of SMPU to external stimuli such as metal ions was investigated.
The objective of this study is to compensate the elastic recovery in the flexible forming process using the predictive models. The target shape was limited to two-dimensional shape having only one curvature radius in the longitudinal-direction. In order to predict the shape error the regression and neural network models were established based on the finite element (FE) simulations. A series of simulations were conducted considering input variables such as the elastic pad thickness, the thickness of plate, and the objective curvature radius. Then, at sampling points in the longitudinal-direction, the shape errors between formed and objective shapes could be calculated from the FE simulations as an output variable. These shape errors were expressed to a representative error value by the root mean square error (RMSE). To obtain the correct objective shape the die shape was adjusted by the closed-loop using the neural network model since the neural network model shows a higher capability of estimating the shape error than the regression model. Finally the experimental result shows that the formed shape almost agreed with the objective shape.
This paper presents a method witch tan improve the dielectric recovery characteristics of UHV class gas circuit breakers by changing the nozzle shape. To calculate the dielectric recovery voltage between electrodes, the flow field and electric field analysis in a 362kV model interrupter has been performed with the commercial programs, RAMPANT and FLUX2D, respectively. As a result, we found that the nozzle shape affects the characteristics of dielectric recovery between electrodes and obtained great improvement of it by the changing the downstream nozzle shape.

The aim of the current study was to predict shape recovery behavior of Ni-Ti shape memory alloy (SMA) wire after loading-unloading and after wire drawing. The superelasticity of SMA was analyzed by a hyper-elastic model for the Mullins effect using ABAQUS. Firstly, tensile tests and loading-unloading tests of the Ni-Ti SMA wire with a diameter 1.0 mm were performed using an MTS servo-hydraulic tester. The parameters for the Mullins effect were computed by ABAQUS based on curve-fitting of the loading-unloading test data. The proposed FE-model predicted the shape recovery of Ni-Ti SMA after wire drawing. Finally, the effectiveness of the model was verified by drawing experiments. The wire drawing experiments using the Ni-Ti SMA were conducted on a drawing machine(1ton, 50mm/s). In order to evaluate the shape recovery of Ni-Ti SMA, the drawn wires are annealed for 30min at $450^{\circ}C$.
