In this paper, a prediction and compensation method for the error in the phase measured by using the proportionality between two wavelengths in the TW-PMP (Two-wavelength Phase Measuring Profilometry) is proposed and experimental results are shown to verify the usefulness of the proposed method. For sample object, firstly, a phase-shifting with a quite large number of steps is adopted in measurement, compared with the conventional phase-shifting method, secondly, a 3-3 step phase-shifting method is used to measure the same object which is applied to high-speed 3D shape measurement, and then, measured results from these two phase-shifting methods are compared to calculate measurement noises. From the experimental results applying the proposed compensation method to the measured beat phase and absolute phase, it has proven that noises are decreased by 90% and 17.2% for each case.
This paper proposes a new reconstruction method of high-resolution facial image from a low-resolution facial image based on top-down machine learning and recursive error back-projection. A face is represented by a linear combination of prototypes of shape and that of texture. With the shape and texture information of each pixel in a given low-resolution facial image, we can estimate optimal coefficients for a linear combination of prototypes of shape and those that of texture by solving least square minimizations. Then high-resolution facial image can be obtained by using the optimal coefficients for linear combination of the high-resolution prototypes. In addition, a recursive error back-projection procedure is applied to improve the reconstruction accuracy of high-resolution facial image. The encouraging results of the proposed method show that our method can be used to improve the performance of the face recognition by applying our method to reconstruct high-resolution facial images from low-resolution images captured at a distance.

Wind energy can be utilized for the generation of electricity, due to significant wind potential at different parts of the world, some countries have already been generating of electricity through wind. Pakistan is still well behind and has not yet made any appreciable effort for the same. The objective of this work was to add some new strategies to calculate Weibull parameters and assess wind energy potential. A new approach calculates Weibull parameters; we also developed an alternate formula to calculate shape parameters instead of the gamma function. We obtained k (shape parameter) and c (scale parameter) for two-parameter Weibull distribution using five statistical methods for five different cities in Pakistan. Maximum likelihood method, Modified Maximum likelihood Method, Method of Moment, Energy Pattern Method, Empirical Method, and have been to calculate and differentiate the values of (shape parameter) k and (scale parameter) c. The performance of these five methods is estimated using the Goodness-of-Fit Test, including root mean square error, mean absolute bias error, mean absolute percentage error, and chi-square error. The daily 10-minute average values of wind speed data (obtained from energydata.info) of different cities of Pakistan for the year 2016 are used to estimate the Weibull parameters. The study finds that Hyderabad city has the largest wind potential than Karachi, Quetta, Lahore, and Peshawar. Hyderabad and Karachi are two possible sites where wind turbines can produce reasonable electricity.

It is required more precise analysis for practical load because of complexities and varieties of vehicle structure. To establish the numerical model, many researchers have been developed designing tools for linking F.E. Analysis results and experimental results. There studies have generally focused on each experimental method or analytical method separately. There are few studies based on both methods. This paper conceives new procedure for the determination of the load direction and magnitude applied on mechanical structures. New procedure is the combination of the analytical and empirical method with analyzed strain by F.E. Analysis under unit load and with measured principal stress by strain gages under driving load, respectively. In this paper, we theorize the procedure of practical load determination and make the validity and the practicality of the procedure with the application to T-shape jointed structure. F.E. Analysis is conducted to get the principal stress on arbitrary points in the F.E. model of T-shape joint under unit load. Then experiment is carried out to get the principal stress on the same points of F.E. model. To demonstrate the actual driving condition, the load conditions are bending and torsion. From these two data sets, the magnitude, the direction and the position of load can be obtained. Theory and practice do not always coincide; since there are some errors such as ill-poseness, measuring error and modeling error in experimental data, we examine the proper method of error minimization.

In this paper, a new structural approach to on-line signature verification is presented. A primitive pattern is defined as a part segmented by a local minimal position of speed. And a structural description of signature is composed of subpatterns which are defined as such forms as rotation shape, cusp shape and bell shape, acquired by composition of the primitives regarding the directional changes. As the matching method to find identical parts between two signatures, a modified DP(dynamic programming) matching algorithm is presented. And also, variation and complexity of local parts are computed from the training samples, and reference model and decision boundary are derived from these. Error rate, execution time and memory usage are compared among the functional approach, the parametric approach and the proposed structural approach. It is found that the average error rate can be reduced from 14.2% to 4.05% when the local parts of a signature are weighted and the complexity is used as a factor of decision threshold. Though the error rate is similar to that of functional approaches. time consumption and memory usage of the proposed structural approach are shown to be very effective.

The ship movement implies current position, wave, wind, and its other factors. We need to know exactly the location and the shape of the ship and control its motion because of these effects. In order to control the small ship according to the movement of the large ship, the position and shape of the ship should be given first. In this paper we propose the method with which we know the current status of the ship without dynamic equations of the ship. There are several methods to track the system such as optical, radio frequency, radar, camera, and infrared light. We propose the movement of the ship using the GPS absolute axis. But, the genuine error by the GPS itself and the movement of the ship cause the result of the GPS of not being accurate. This paper reduces the error of the location and the shape of the ship and gives the exact values of the ship movements even if the GPS implies some error itself.

In this paper, a morphological shape decomposition method is proposed for the purpose of pattern recognition and image compression. In the method, a structuring element that geometrical characteristics is more similar to the shape function is preselected. The shape is decomposed into the primitive elements corresponding to the structuring element. A gray scale image also is transformed into 8 bit plane images for the hierarchical reconstruction required in image communication systems. The shape in each bitplane is decomposed to the proposed method. Through the experiment. it is proved that the description error is reduced and the coding efficiency is improved.
The Cassegrain telescope consists of a primary concave mirror and a secondary convex mirror. In the case of a secondary mirror, it is more difficult to test wavefront error than for a primary mirror, because it reflects the entire testing beam, as it is convex in shape. In this paper we tested the wavefront error of a complex aspheric convex secondary mirror by using the Simpson-Oland-Meckel Hindle test. To separate the systematic errors, such as fabrication error and alignment error of a meniscus lens, we adopted the QN absolute test (pixel-based absolute test using the quasi-Newton method) as well. Finally, we compared the measured result with that of an ASI (Aspheric Stitching Interferometer) made by the QED company, which resulted in an rms difference of only 2.5 nm, showing a similar shape of astigmatism aberration.

The timing chain system, which is a typical power transmission technology applied to a vehicle, has been widely used by the automotive industry because it is normally designed to last a car's lifetime. However, the timing chain system may cause some problems due to the shape of the chains and the polygonal behavior on contact between the chain and the sprocket. In addition, noise and vibration caused by transmission error are the most typical problems encountered by major automotive manufacturers and they are considered as the main source of customer complaint. The initial tension of the chain-sprocket system is thought to be the main cause of transmission error, and it is regarded as the source of engine vibration and noise. The initial tension of the chain system should be controlled carefully since a low initial tension can cause twisting, which may lead to a system malfunction, while a high initial tension can reduce the service life due to a worn down contact surface. In this paper, the kinematic analysis model is generated with various initial tensions, which are controlled by changing the shape of the fixed guide with the largest contact surface with chain. The results showed that the transmission error was minimized on a particular range of initial tension, and the tendency showed that the error changed with a higher sensitivity at a lower initial tension.

Since the third industrial revolution has been started in the 1980s, the form of buildings has been varied and atypical by the development of building technology. Such free-form building has a curved shape unlike the existing standard buildings, and to realize this, it is necessary to manufacture the free-from panel. The shape of the free-form panel must satisfy a limited error ratio compared with the design shape, and the technology to produce free-form panels is very difficult. However, there are many problems such as enormous cost and construction waste generation when implementing free-from construction. Therefore, the development of free-form panel manufacturing technology should be made to solve the problems caused by the free-form construction. In this study, the error rate analysis of the mixed mortar panel was conducted by selecting the proper mixing ratio of the mixed mortar for the shape of the free-form panel.
