  • Objectives : This study is to propose a new hypothesis about the interpretation of 'Ming (明)' in Shanghanlun and the direction of future research about Yangmingbing(陽明病). Methods : We analyzed the original form of the chinese characters 'Ming(明)' and tried to understand their contexts in Shanghanlun. At the same time, we analyzed 2 clinical cases diagnosed and treated as Yangmingbing according to newly hypothesized definition. Results : From etymology, 'Ming(明)' means becoming distinct. Patients in 2 cases suffered from cold hypersensitivity of hands and feet, overactive bladder syndrome and dizziness, all of which became distinct and problematic. For this reason, we diagnosed patients with Yangmingbing(陽明病) and administered herbal medicine then they improved. Conclusions : The disease names in Shanghanlun have clinical message by the name itself. From etymology, at least in 15 characters provision of Shanghanlun, Yanmingbing means the disease made by becoming conscious about symptoms. Future research about Yangmingbing (陽明病) should start from here.

On the basis of these, two medical cases were analyzed by reordering in accordance with time sequences and causality for confirming narrative factors. Results : The narrative approach to analyzing cases shows us that different diseases could be the result of same pathological patterns based on Shanghanlun. This tells us following four aspects. [1] Shanghanlun is the causes-oriented records and the text includes narrative factors. [2] Shanghanlun six diagnostic system is a process of constructing plot of medical case history through the clinical interpretation of contextual meaning of patient's life. [3] In the process of diagnosis, Schemata and script are engaged in assuming and confirming six patterns diseases. [4] The subjective factors of an individual can be applied universally through the provision of Shanghanlun. Conclusions : Narrative factors of Shanghanlun six diagnostic system suggest the possibility and value of Shanghan Medicine as Narrative Medicine in terms of Medical Humanities, essence of medical diagnosis and therapeutic action.

Methods : Two patients with headache not otherwise classified were treated using Saengkangsasim-tang according to Shanghanlun provisions, and the effect was also compared with Soshiho-tang. The results were evaluated using a numerical rating scale (NRS) and the Korea Headache Impact Test-6 (KHIT-6). In addition, new clinical implications for the interpretation of Shanghanlun provision 157 were reviewed. Results : As a result of analyzing the results of the two cases, treatment with Sosiho-tang was ineffective but improved when using Saengkangsasim-tang. After administration of Saengkangsasim-tang, all headaches decreased to the point where they were not uncomfortable in everyday life. Conclusions : The administration of Saengkangsasim-tang to patients with headache diagnosed according to Shanghanlun provision 157, suggesting that it is clinically effective when applied according to the definitions provided by the Shanghanlun provisions.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this paper is to find out the safe dose and clinical use for administration of Glycyrrhizae Radix in Shanghanlun(傷寒論). Methods : Web-databases(OASIS, NDSL, Pubmed, Google) were searched with keywords including 'Licorice', 'Pseudoaldosteronism', 'Glycyrrhizin', 'Testosterone' on 14/10/2016. The searched about 40 papers and books were reveiwed. Results : Glycyrrhizin(GL) and 3-monoglucuronyl glycyrrhetinic acid(3MGA) in Glycyrrhizae Radix are found to be the main compounds vulnerable for inducing pseudoaldosteronism. The dose range of Glycyrrhizae Radix in Shanghanlun prescriptions is from 0.25 g to 12 g as a daily administration, and this dose satisfies the guidelines of WHO, European Union, ABC etc. And risk factors contributing for personal sensitivities are old age(>60), female sex, liver dysfunction, hypokalemia, prolonged gastrointestinal transit time, anorexia nervosa, decreased 11-${\ss}$-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase-2 activity and hypertension. Conclusions : As a result, dose of Glycyrrhizae Radix in Shanghanlun(傷寒論) is safe. However, the personal sensitivity and unexpected drug interactions are independent from doses of GL, so doctors should monitor those risk factors and symptoms of pseudoaldosteronism when administering Glycyrrhizae Radix.

  • 1. Objectvies The study is purposed to find the role of the six-channels of shanghan(傷寒六經) on the relation between ${\ulcorner}$Dongyisusaebowon(東醫壽世保元)${\lrcorner}$ and ${\ulcorner}$Shanghanlun(傷寒論)${\lrcorner}$ 2. Methods The study is compared ${\ulcorner}$Euiwonleun(醫源論)${\lrcorner}$ with the process of study on the ${\ulcorner}$Shanghanlun(傷寒論)${\lrcorner}$, origin and theorys of the Shanghan six-channels(傷寒六經). 3. Results and Conclusions Just as Dong-mu fully understood the concepts of ${\ulcorner}$Shanghanlun(傷寒論)${\lrcorner}$ through the six of Shanghan(傷寒六經) proposed by Chu-gueng(朱肱), the ideas of Differential Diagnostic System(辨證體系) of ${\ulcorner}$Shanghanlun(傷寒論)${\lrcorner}$ had much influence on ${\ulcorner}$Dongyisusaebowon(東醫壽世保元)${\lrcorner}$. Therefore a new medical theory could be born.

Shanghan used in Diagnosis of Diseases is a premise of many provisions of Shanghanlun. And Shanghan is made up of finished fever, expected fever, chill, body pain, loss of appetite, image of tension. • Shanghanlun is a medical text published by the Jiaozhengyishuju in 1065 A.D. during the Northern Song dynasty. The first edition featured larger characters but in 1088, a version with smaller characters was published with reduced price. This study compared various versions of Shanghanlun to clarify its system. Especially the alteration in the Chinese version by Jhao Kai Mei was comparatively analysed by the shape of letters and specific marks. Also, information on the various publications in Japan is included in this study, which we believe will be the logical outline for comprehensive understanding on the propagation and progression of Shanghanlun in East Asian region.
