  • The deterioration of dimensional accuracy, caused by springback, is one of problems to always occur In sheet metal forming processes. As the demand for lighter and stronger metals increases, the development of improved forming processes settling the springback problem becomes more important. In this work, asymmetric springback phenomena are investigated, which occur in the shallow-drawing process with the anisotropic sheet metal and axisymmetric tools. The improvement possibility of dimensional accuracies, mainly, flatness, was examined by applying segmented blank holding forces as a method for springback control.

  • Recently, geotechnical engineering researches have been conducted on the Limit State Design (LSD) for deep and shallow foundations; however, there are very few studies on the retaining wall. As a basic study for the introduction of the LSD of a railway retaining wall, this study evaluates whether the reliability index satisfies the target reliability index for each failure mode in the standard drawing of the retaining wall. It also analyzes the feasibility of the LSD method by using the Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) for the standard drawing of a retaining wall. In a portion of the standard drawing of the railway retaining wall, the reliability indices of the sliding and bearing capacity failure modes did not satisfy the target reliability index, and could not satisfy the limit state by the LRFD. Hence, the standard drawing of the railway retaining wall will need to be revised if the LSD is to be applied.

  • Genomics & Informatics (NLM title abbreviation: Genomics Inform) is the official journal of the Korea Genome Organization. Herein, we conduct a statistical analysis of the publications of Genomics & Informatics over the 16 years since its inception, with a particular focus on issues relating to article categories, word clouds, and the most-studied genes, drawing on recent reviews of the use of word frequencies in journal articles. Trends in the studies published in Genomics & Informatics are discussed both individually and collectively.

  • In our ongoing efforts to explore the species diversity of the harpacticoid fauna in Korea, we present findings on four newly identified species from family Tegastidae Sars, 1904. Although this family is frequently encountered in phytal communities, the diversity of tegastid copepod species within Korean waters largely remains to be elucidated. Drawing from our collections of tegastid harpacticoids from Chuja-do and Geomun-do Islands, we provide morphological descriptions for Tegastes lobus sp. nov., T. tresetosus sp. nov., T. pilosus sp. nov., and Syngastes acutus sp. nov., and propose their taxonomic relationships in relation to other species within the genus. Finally, we update the list of tegastid harpacticoids found in Korea and provide a key for identifying the six confirmed species from this region.

  • Hunminjeongeum was made by the Great King Sejong, and composed of 17 consonant and 11 vowel letters. All the 28 letters were made according to the shape of vocal organ or space at the point of articulation for each letters. This review article focused on phonetic and phoniatric consideration for explanation of the designs of the middle vowel letters, especially three main vowel letters [ • (天, heaven), ㅡ (地, earth), ㅣ (人, human)] using video-fluoroscopic evaluation as well as computed tomography scanning, etc. During articulating / • / sound, a ball-like space at frontal portion of the oral cavity was found, tongue was contracted, and sound was deep (舌縮而聲深). During /ㅡ/ sound, a flat air space between oral tongue and hard palate was created. Tongue was slightly contacted neither deep nor shallow (舌小縮而聲不深不淺). During /ㅣ/ sound, tongue was not contacted and Sound is light (舌不縮而聲淺). Tongue was moved forward making longitudinal oro-pharyngeal air space. So, I'd like to suggest that we had better change the explanation drawing from a philosophical modeling to a more scientific modeling from real vocal tract space modeling during articulating middle vowels of Hunminjeongeum.
