Object extraction is needed to track objects in color traffic image sequence. To extract objects, we use background differencing method based on MOG(Mixture of Gaussians). In extracted objects, shadows may be included. Due to shadows, we may not find exact location of objects and sometimes we find adjacent objects are glued together. Many methods have been proposed to remove shadows. Conventional methods usually assume that color and texture information are preserved under the shadow. Thus these methods do not work well if these assumptions do not hold. In this paper, we propose a new robust shadow removal method which works well in those situations. First we extract shadow pixel candidates by analysing color information and compute the ratio of shadow pixel candidates over the total number of Pixels. W the ratio is reasonable, we remove shadow candidate Pixels and if not, we use data in history array containing Previous removal records. We applied the method to real color traffic image sequences and obtained good results.
As supplying of automatic surveillance or patrol systems based on image processing, the needs on object extraction technology from images increases. The extraction is more difficult when the lighting condition is changed from time to time. There are many approaches to extract objects from images excluding shadow. They have a common problem something like loss of object region according with shadow removal. In this paper a restoration method using color information of objects to complement the problem is presented. The usefulness of the method is verified using images taken from different lighting conditions and selected from well-known DB.

There is a need to convert the old low- or medium-resolution satellite image-based thematic mapping to the high-resolution satellite image-based mapping of GSD 1m grade or lower. There is also a need to generate middle- or large-scale thematic maps of 1:5,000 or lower. In this study, the DEM and orthoimage is generated with the KOMPSAT-2 stereo image of Yuseong-gu, Daejeon Metropolitan City. By utilizing the orthoimage, automatic extraction experiments of land cover information are generated for buildings, roads and urban areas, raw land(agricultural land), mountains and forests, hydrosphere, grassland, and shadow. The experiment results show that it is possible to classify, in detail, for natural features such as the hydrosphere, mountains and forests, grassland, shadow, and raw land. While artificial features such as roads, buildings, and urban areas can be easily classified with automatic extraction, there are difficulties on detailed classifications along the boundaries. Further research should be performed on the automation methods using the conventional thematic maps and all sorts of geo-spatial information and mapping techniques in order to classify thematic information in detail.

A digital city model represents a 3D environment of a city with various city object information such as 3D building model, road, and land cover. Usually, at least two satellite images with some image overlap are necessary and a complex satellite-related computation needs to be carried out to create a city model. This is an expensive technique, because it requires many resources and excessive computational cost. The authors propose a methodology to create a digital city model including 3D building model and land cover information from a single high resolution satellite image. The approach consists of image pan-sharpening, shadow recovery, building occlusion restoration, building model extraction, and land cover classification. We create a digital city model using a single KOMPSAT-2 image and review the result.
This article presents a new method for semi-automatic extraction of building information (height, shape, and footprint location) from monoscopic urban scenes. The proposed method is to expand Semi-automatic Volumetric Shadow Analysis (SVSA), which can handle occluded building footprints or shadows semi-automatically. SVSA can extract wrong building information from a single high resolution satellite image because SVSA is influenced by extracted shadow area, image noise and objects around a building. The proposed method can reduce the disadvantage of SVSA by using multi-spectral images. The proposed method applies SVSA to panchromatic and multi-spectral images. Results of SVSA are used as parameters of a cost function. A building height with maximum value of the cost function is determined as actual building height. For performance evaluation, building heights extracted by SVSA and the proposed method from Kompsat-2 images were compared with reference heights extracted from stereo IKONOS. The result of performance evaluation shows the proposed method is a more accurate and stable method than SVSA.
Monitoring water surface has become one of the most prominent areas of research in addressing environmental challenges.Accurate and automated detection of watersurface in remote sensing imagesis crucial for disaster prevention, urban planning, and water resource management, particularly for a country where water plays a vital role in human life. However, achieving precise detection poses challenges. Previous studies have explored different approaches, such as analyzing water indexes, like normalized difference water index (NDWI) derived from satellite imagery's visible or infrared bands and using k-means clustering analysis to identify land cover patterns and segment regions based on similar attributes. Nonetheless, challenges persist, notably distinguishing between waterspectralsignatures and cloud shadow or terrain shadow. In thisstudy, our objective is to enhance the precision of water surface detection by constructing a comprehensive water database (DB) using existing digital and land cover maps. This database serves as an initial assumption for automated water index analysis. We utilized 1:5,000 and 1:25,000 digital maps of Korea to extract water surface, specifically rivers, lakes, and reservoirs. Additionally, the 1:50,000 and 1:5,000 land cover maps of Korea aided in the extraction process. Our research demonstrates the effectiveness of utilizing a water DB product as our first approach for efficient water surface extraction from satellite images, complemented by our second and third approachesinvolving NDWI analysis and k-means analysis. The image segmentation and binary mask methods were employed for image analysis during the water extraction process. To evaluate the accuracy of our approach, we conducted two assessments using reference and ground truth data that we made during this research. Visual interpretation involved comparing our results with the global surface water (GSW) mask 60 m resolution, revealing significant improvements in quality and resolution. Additionally, accuracy assessment measures, including an overall accuracy of 90% and kappa values exceeding 0.8, further support the efficacy of our methodology. In conclusion, thisstudy'sresults demonstrate enhanced extraction quality and resolution. Through comprehensive assessment, our approach proves effective in achieving high accuracy in delineating watersurfaces from satellite images.

Additional high resolution satellite images, other period or site, are essential for efficient city modeling and analysis. However, the same ground objects have a radiometric inconsistency in different satellite images and it debase the quality of image processing and analysis. Moreover, in an urban area, buildings, trees, bridges, and other artificial objects cause shadow effects, which lower the performance of relative radiometric normalization. Therefore, in this study, we exclude shadow areas and suggest the selective histogram matching methods for image based application without supplementary digital elevation model or geometric informations of sun and sensor. We extract the shadow objects first using adjacency informations with the building edge buffer and spatial and spectral attributes derived from the image segmentation. And, Outlier objects like a asphalt roads are removed. Finally, selective histogram matching is performed from the shadow masked multi-temporal Quickbird-2 images.
Various shadows are one of main factors that cause errors in vision based vehicle detection. In this paper, two simple methods, land mark based method and BS & Edge method, are proposed for vehicle detection and shadow rejection. In the experiments, the accuracy of vehicle detection is higher than 96%, during which the shadows arisen from roadside buildings grew considerably. Based on these two methods, vehicle counting, tracking, classification, and speed estimation are achieved so that real-time traffic parameters concerning traffic flow can be extracted to describe the load of each lane.

In this paper, facial feature areas in user picture are created by facial feature points extracted by ASM(Active Shape Model). In a existing virtual make-up application, users manually select a few features that are exactly. Users are uncomfortable with this method. We propose a virtual makeup application using ASM that does not require user input. In order to express a natural makeup, the modified alpha blendings for each cosmetic are used to blend skin color with cosmetic color. The Virtual makeup application was implemented to apply Foundation, Blush, Lip Stick, Lip Liner, Eye Pencil, Eye Liner and Eye Shadow.
We present an effective algorithm for automatic tracing of retinal vessel structure and vascular landmark extraction of bifurcations and ending points. In this paper we deal with vascular patterns from RGB images for personal identification. Vessel tracing algorithms are of interest in a variety of biometric and medical application such as personal identification, biometrics, and ophthalmic disorders like vessel change detection. However eye surface vasculature tracing in RGB images has many problems which are subject to improper illumination, glare, fade-out, shadow and artifacts arising from reflection, refraction, and dispersion. The proposed algorithm on vascular tracing employs multi-stage processing of ten-layers as followings: Image Acquisition, Image Enhancement by gray scale retinal image enhancement, reducing background artifact and illuminations and removing interlacing minute characteristics of vessels, Vascular Structure Extraction by connecting broken vessels, extracting vascular structure using eight directional information, and extracting retinal vascular structure, and Vascular Landmark Extraction by extracting bifurcations and ending points. The results of automatic retinal vessel extraction using jive different thresholds applied 34 eye images are presented. The results of vasculature tracing algorithm shows that the suggested algorithm can obtain not only robust and accurate vessel tracing but also vascular landmarks according to thresholds.
