  • We report results from an analysis of the X-ray archival data on MCG-2-58-22 obtained with Ginga, ROSAT and ASCA. By analyzing both short- and long-term light curves, we find clear time variations, ranging widely from, $\~10^3$ s to more than several years, in the X-ray energy range 0.1 - 10 keV. In addition, a flare is detected in 1991, overlaid on a gradual, secular flux decrease from 1979 to 1993; this flare has a time scale of about 1 year, and the X-ray flux increased by at least a factor of 3. The implications of these observational results are discussed in terms of accretion flow dynamics near a supermassive black hole.

  • Given high accretion rates close to the Eddington limit, narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1) are arguably the most important AGN subclass in investigating the origin of the black hole mass-galaxy stellar velocity dispersion ($M_{BH}-{\sigma}$) relation. Currently, it is highly debated whether NLS1s are offset from the local $M_{BH}-{\sigma}$ relation. The controversy mainly comes from the fact that the [OIII] line width has been used as a proxy for stellar velocity dispersion due to the difficulty of measuring stellar velocity dispersion in NLS1s. Using the SDSS spectra of a sample of 105 NLS1, we performed multi-component fitting analysis to separate stellar absorption lines from strong AGN [FeII] complex in order to directly measure stellar velocity dispersion. We will present the result of decomposition analysis and discuss whether NLS1s follow the same $M_{BH}-{\sigma}$ relation based on the direct measurements of stellar velocity dispersion.

  • We investigate the relation between AGN gas metallicity and their host galaxy stellar metallicity using a sample of local Seyfert 1 galaxies. Stellar metallicity is measured from stellar absorption lines while AGN gas metallicity is derived from the flux ratios of UV emission lines. We use a high quality spectra obtained from the Lick AGN Monitoring Project, to obtain pure host galaxy spectra based on the spectral decomposition analysis, leading to accurate measurements of the Mg2 (5175) and Fe (5270) indices. In the case of AGN gas metallicity, we measure the ratio of NV1240 to CIV1549 lines using UV spectra from the archival IUE and HST STIS data. We will present the results of metallicity measurements and comparison between AGN and stellar metallicity, and discuss the implications of the results.
