This is an exploratory study that examines the publication and use of sex education books for youth and considers their values and applicability to sex education for youth in the future. In-depth interviews were conducted with book editors, sex education experts, and public librarians-those who play important roles in children and young adults' reading of sex education books-and analyzed. According to the research participants, parents and caregivers often rely on sex education books when they find it hard to deliver sex education to their children on their own. Sex education books are also often used by sex education experts in their classes. The research participants said many sex education books that were published in South Korea only focus on 'the body education,' which deals with body changes during puberty. Gender inequality is another subject that needs to be changed. The research participants agreed that a sex education book should not just be a simple medium that delivers fragments of knowledge on sexuality but a broader learning playground where children and young adults can learn independent perspectives on sexuality based on comprehensive views on life. This study suggests a guideline for sexuality education books, which will be useful for library collection development.

Gender sensitivity is a concept needs to be substantially count since early childhood when a child starts understanding and developing their gender role. As such UNESCO published the guideline on Comprehensive Sexuality Education(CSE) guidelines. In Korea, the Ministry of Women and Family selected the book called 'Nadaum children's book' in order to support children to better develop the gender sensitivity in their early childhood. This study aims for qualitative research on 101 books for low-grade children of Nadaum Children's Books. Content analysis and theme analysis were conducted based on UNESCO's CSE guidelines. This is to analyze the frequency rate of the CSE concepts and how the value of gender sensitivity is described throughout the books. The results shows that 'family member' and 'value of tolerance' were most frequently appeared while 'puberty' and 'sex and health' were not included. In addition, the results of theme analysis showed that this book well described the activities pursuing the value of gender sensitivity as well as process of being materialized it.

This study analyzed the 77 most popular sexuality education books for children and young adults published in Korea, based on various criteria, including subject matters, format, implied readers, and author's occupational background. Among the key topics of the International technical guidance on sexuality education developed by UNESCO, the most mentioned was that it is natural to have curiosity on one's own feelings and body and that sex education books can help them learn about them. Respect on one's own body, knowledge of sexual and reproductive organs, eggs and sperms, menstrual cycle, effect of hormones were also easily found topics from the books. The least mentioned topics were HIV/AIDS and Gender-based violence. 63.5% of the analyzed books were books with/without illustrations. Other formats include picture books, comic books, and photo-illustrated books. Publication of books aimed for particular gender started to increase from 2019. Diversity of authors' occupation were also shown starting 2019. Further research on the role of sex education books is crucial to help all children and young adults develop their own sexuality and understand that of other people, and ultimately to live in a harmonious society.

This study has been done in order to examine elementary school pupil's knowledge and attitudes on sex. The subjects of the study were 1904 elementary school pupils in the 5th and 6th grade of three elementary schools in Kyonggi-do, Korea. A guide book for the teachers on sexual education published by the Ministry of Education and Human Resources has been used as the tool for the study. Data analysis has been performed by using SPSS Win(l0.0) with mean, standard deviation, t-test, F-test(ANOVA), and Pearson's Correlation. The results show that the human relationship area showed the highest, next were physical development, sexual culture and sexual ethics, and the last were sex health and sexual psychology. The Pearson's correlation between each area of knowledge and attitude on sex show a significant correlation statistically in the level of p＜.001 in all areas. When examined individually the highest correlation was demonstrated between physical development and sexual health and human relationship by r＝.573, while it demonstrated only r＝.265 the lowest between sexual ethics and physical development.
