Colonization of Microbial Biofilms in Pipeline of Water Reuse

  • Aim of this study was to investigate biofilms attached in pipeline of water reuse from the MBR system treating sewage without chlorination in correlation to the outflow water quality. Two general pipe materials: polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polyethylene (PE) were employed in the experiment. The peak growths were found at week 4 in both pipes. The maximum biofilms in PE pipe was $33mgVSS/cm^2$ with the growth rate of $4.75mgVSS/cm^2-d$ which was significant higher than that of PVC pipe. Biofilms examined by PCR-DGGE technique revealed five bacterial species in PE biofilms namely Sinorhizobium medicae WSM419, Sinorhizobium fredii NGR234, Geobacter sp. M18, Parachlamydia acanthamoebae UV-7, and Mycobacterium chubuense NBB4. The VSS concentrations in outflow had directly correlated to the biofilm attachment and detachment. High COD concentrations of outflow appeared during biofilm detaching phase. In summary, water quality of reuse water corresponded to the biofilms attachment and detachment in the pipeline.

  • To assess land subsidence estimation and preparedness in the Geum River basin, this study applied GIS techniques and identified six key areas. The Geum River basin has experienced an increase in heavy rainfall since late 2010, and four study areas have shown an increase in groundwater levels. Land subsidence primarily occurred from June to September, with higher rainfall years in 2020 and 2023. Approximately 83.6% of land subsidence in Chungcheongbuk-do province occurred in Cheongju-si, mainly attributed to aging sewage pipes. The regions experiencing population growth have likely led to the construction of underground infrastructures and sewer pipes. Thus, it is considered that various factors, including sewage pipe leaks, precipitation, slope gradient, low drainage density, and groundwater level fluctuations, have contributed to land subsidence. Improving land subsidence estimation involves incorporating additional natural factors and human activities.

PE 선피복 파형강관의 부식 및 마모 특성 (Corrosion and Abrasion Characteristics of PE Sheet Laminated Corrugated Steel Pipe)

  • Feasibility of using PE sheet laminated CSP(Corrugated steel pipe) to sewers were tested via corrosion and abrasion tests for PE sheet laminated CSP; 1) corrosion test for PE film and PE coated plate, 2) corrosion test for joint of PE sheet laminated CSP, 3) corrosion test for outside of PE sheet laminated CSP, and 4) abrasion test for inside of PE sheet laminated CSP. The results for the corrosion and abrasion tests are as follows. 1. Results for corrosion tests on PE films and zinc coated steel plates that were coated with PE films show that the surfaces of both PE were not changed compared to those of original PE samples. Furthermore, PE films maintained strong adhesion on the steel plates even though they were exposed to sewage and seawater provided cutting planes of the steel plates were treated with molding. But, results for corrosion tests on the spots that were previously cut off by a knife and a cutting planes of the steel plates were treated without molding show that steel plates have been corroded if they were exposed to sewage and seawater. 2. Results for corrosion tests on joints of PE sheet laminated corrugated steel using sewage show that gathering rust was observed at cutting plane of PE sheet laminated corrugated steel after 180 days, but PE film was not flaked off. However, PE film at cutting plane was flaked off when PE sheet laminated corrugated steel was exposed to seawater. Furthermore, flaking process was severely progressed at lockseam points of which the surfaces were not smooth. 3. Results for laying PE sheet laminated corrugated steel under the ground show that the surface of untouched PE film was almost identical to that of original PE film. However, the spots that were previously cut off by a knife and a cutting plane of PE sheet laminated corrugated steel have flaked off. 4. As a result of abrasion tests conducted with PE sheet laminated corrugated steel and sand, brilliance and thickness of PE was not greatly changed under the severe abrasion conditions. Therefore, the durability of PE sheet laminated corrugated steel for abrasion was determined to be good.

하수관로 검사 및 연결 절단부 로봇의 개발 (The Development of Robot that is Detecting of Sewage Pipe and Cutting of Connection Projecting Part)

  • The issue with the drainpipe now a day is that they are laid underground. Causing us to perform additional work to repair, such as digging up the ground and peeling off the insulator that surrounds the pipe. And such series works are difficult that concession appears from government and municipal office. However, if we can save time and money. Performance of piping robot that we are studied in existing session through fixing unit and improvement of cutting bit shorten and wished to heighten work efficiency. And we are trying to develop a unit that can cut up the projecting parts which connects with the interior part of the drainpipes.

콘크리트 하수관거 보수용 초속경 수중불분리 모르타르의 재료적 특성 (Material Properties of Ultra Rapid Hardening Mortar for Repairing Sewage Treatment Concrete Pipes)

  • 국내에 설치된 하수관거 중에서 20년을 초과한 콘크리트관의 연장은 66,334km로서 전체의 42.5%를 차지한다. 열화된 콘크리트 하수관거에서는 내부 하수의 유출로 인해 관로 주변의 동공을 확장시켜 땅꺼짐 등의 문제도 발생시키기 때문에 이에 대한 보수를 통한 유지관리가 필요한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 초속경시멘트 및 분리저감제를 적용한 수중불분리성 모르타르를 하수관거 보수에 적용하기 위한 기초연구를 수행하였다. 배합조건에 따른 응결시험 결과 분리저감제 혼입에 따라 종결이 최대 172%정도 지연되는 것으로 나타났다. 수중분리도는 분리저감제 0.3% 이상 혼입시 pH 12 이하로 측정되었고, 현탁액량은 분리저감제 0.2% 이상 혼입시 50mg/l이하로 측정되어 국내 KCI-AD102 기준을 만족하였다. 기건조건과 수중조건에서 타설하였을 때의 강도비 평가 결과, 분리저감제 혼입시 80% 이상의 강도비를 나타내어 국내 KCI-AD102 기준을 만족하였다. 부착강도는 분리저감제 혼입시 기건조건보다 수중조건에서 타설하였을 때 높은 강도로 측정되었다. 내수성 검토는 분리저감제 혼입량에 따른 흡수율과 투수성으로 평가하였고, 각각 42.6%, 36.6%의 성능개선을 확인하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 형식 조립식 하수관거 기초의 상재하중과 외압에 따른 거동을 범용 구조해석 프로그램인 ABAQUS 2009의 CAE 기능과 범용 CAD 프로그램인 Auto CAD Mechanical 2011의 3D 모델링을 통해 실제 실험결과와 비교하여 복잡한 구조의 구조물에서의 해석 정당성과 방법을 제안하고자 한다.

  • Sewage facilities are positively necessary for environment improvement such as rainwater removal, sewage disposal, preservation of the quality of water and health of the citizens in present-day. Meanwhile, a deterioration of the concrete sewer pipe is increasing rapidly due to the chemical and physical attack and especially biochemical attack that is to say biodeterioration. So, in advanced countries, prediction techniques and corrosion inhibition system for sewer concrete are developed and are being applied. Also, antibiotics were developed already but application of that is low because it is not economical and has no practical use. But, in domestic, countermeasures for the corrosion of sewage concrete are not sufficient and biochemical attack is not reflected in those essentially. In this study, to prevent biochemical corrosion of the sewer concrete, surface of the concrete was spread with liquefied inorganic antibiotics and then its engineering properties were experimentally investigated. As a result, compressive strength of the specimen spread with antibiotics were similar to those of non spread, Both bond strength and abrasion amount of the specimen spread with antibiotics were inferior to non spread. Properties of absorption and air permeability of the specimen spread with antibiotics were superior to non spread. Finally, carbonation depth, chloride ion penetration depth and weight change ration of the specimen spread with antibiotics were smaller than non spread.

하수관 퇴적물 감지를 위한 초음파 퇴적센서 개발 (Development of Ultrasonic Sediment-level Sensor for Sewage Pipe Application)

  • In this study, we successfully developed a highly reliable ultrasonic sediment sensor to detect the sediment levels in sewer pipes in harsh environments. The ultrasonic transducer employed in the ultrasonic sediment sensor was designed so as to possess a simple structure. The developed sensor was carefully optimized by simulating the electromechanical characteristics, radiated sound wave pressures, and directivity via finite element analysis. It was also designed to possess a simple mounting structure minimizing the flow disturbance in a 400-mm sewer pipe; additionally, eight ultrasonic transducers were arranged in a four-channel mode, allowing for measurement of the sediment height in five easy steps. Through experimental evaluations, we verified the performance of the ultrasonic sediment-level sensor and its industrial applicability. The results suggested that although the precision value was notably low at 15 mm, the sediment detection performance was adequate; therefore, the developed sensor can potentially be used in industrial applications.

차집관로의 조사 및 분석을 통한 하수관로정비 사업의 효과 감소 원인 분석 (Cause Analysis for Reduced Effect of Sewer Pipe Improvement Project Based On Investigation of Interceptor Sewers)

  • 차집관로는 국유지가 많은 하천변에 매설되어 있어 파손이나 침입수/유입수(불명수, I/I) 의 유입으로 공공하수처리시설의 운영효율이 떨어지며, 하수관로 정비사업의 효율도 저하되는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 하수관로 정비사업 효과의 감소원인에 가장 많은 영향을 미치는 차집관로를 대상으로 감소원인에 대한 분석을 하였다. 즉, 대상지역 3개소를 선정하여 차집관로의 현황조사(관로연장, 관경, 관종, 매설년도, 매설위치 등), 차집관로에 대한 차수(Pump 작업) 및 준설작업을 병행한 관로내부(CCTV)조사, 맨홀내부(육안)조사, 유량 및 수질조사 결과를 이용한 오염부하량 산정 등을 수행하였다. 합류지역은 동시 다측점 유량조사와 차집관로 유량 및 수질(BOD)조사, 오염부하량 비교 등을 수행하였으며, 차집관로 부실화에 따른 침입수/유입수 발생 현황 등 실태조사를 실시하였다. 연구결과, 하수관로정비 사업의 효과를 감소시키는 주요 원인은 차집관로의 노후화 및 미정비로 인해 공공 하수처리시설로 저농도 하수 및 불명수 유입되기 때문인 것으로 분석되었다.

SWMM 모형을 이용한 비점오염 분석 및 CSO 관리방안 연구 - 부산시 온천천 유역 대상 - (The NPS Analysis and CSO Management Based on SWMM for Oncheon Basin)

  • Oncheon basin which are located in Busan is divided into 43 basin on the basis of main pipe, constructed with Storm Water Management Model (SWMM). Occurrence situation for Outflow and pollutant loads by long-term continuous rainfall is examined for treatment district and river analysis point of Oncheon basin and a reduction vs effectiveness table for effective CSOs managements is made for each of treatment districts according to each of managements. In case that treatment equipment is located at the discharge point of CSO, treatment efficiency is analysed. It is supposed that treatment equipment have an efficiency on the basis of a concentration and runoff discharge over a critical flow is discharged with it untreated and treating runoff discharge with treatment equipment at each of runoff discharge points and treating it gathered at sewage treatment plant (STP) through trunk sewer is compared for a relative treatment efficiency.
