The advent of 5G mobile communications, which is expected in 2020, will provide many services such as Internet of Things (IoT) and vehicle-to-infra/vehicle/nomadic (V2X) communication. There are many requirements to realizing these services: reduced latency, high data rate and reliability, and real-time service. In particular, a high level of reliability and delay sensitivity with an increased data rate are very important for M2M, IoT, and Factory 4.0. Around the world, 5G standardization organizations have considered these services and grouped them to finally derive the technical requirements and service scenarios. The first scenario is broadcast services that use a high data rate for multiple cases of sporting events or emergencies. The second scenario is as support for e-Health, car reliability, etc.; the third scenario is related to VR games with delay sensitivity and real-time techniques. Recently, these groups have been forming agreements on the requirements for such scenarios and the target level. Various techniques are being studied to satisfy such requirements and are being discussed in the context of software-defined networking (SDN) as the next-generation network architecture. SDN is being used to standardize ONF and basically refers to a structure that separates signals for the control plane from the packets for the data plane. One of the best examples for low latency and high reliability is an intelligent traffic system (ITS) using V2X. Because a car passes a small cell of the 5G network very rapidly, the messages to be delivered in the event of an emergency have to be transported in a very short time. This is a typical example requiring high delay sensitivity. 5G has to support a high reliability and delay sensitivity requirements for V2X in the field of traffic control. For these reasons, V2X is a major application of critical delay. V2X (vehicle-to-infra/vehicle/nomadic) represents all types of communication methods applicable to road and vehicles. It refers to a connected or networked vehicle. V2X can be divided into three kinds of communications. First is the communication between a vehicle and infrastructure (vehicle-to-infrastructure; V2I). Second is the communication between a vehicle and another vehicle (vehicle-to-vehicle; V2V). Third is the communication between a vehicle and mobile equipment (vehicle-to-nomadic devices; V2N). This will be added in the future in various fields. Because the SDN structure is under consideration as the next-generation network architecture, the SDN architecture is significant. However, the centralized architecture of SDN can be considered as an unfavorable structure for delay-sensitive services because a centralized architecture is needed to communicate with many nodes and provide processing power. Therefore, in the case of emergency V2X communications, delay-related control functions require a tree supporting structure. For such a scenario, the architecture of the network processing the vehicle information is a major variable affecting delay. Because it is difficult to meet the desired level of delay sensitivity with a typical fully centralized SDN structure, research on the optimal size of an SDN for processing information is needed. This study examined the SDN architecture considering the V2X emergency delay requirements of a 5G network in the worst-case scenario and performed a system-level simulation on the speed of the car, radius, and cell tier to derive a range of cells for information transfer in SDN network. In the simulation, because 5G provides a sufficiently high data rate, the information for neighboring vehicle support to the car was assumed to be without errors. Furthermore, the 5G small cell was assumed to have a cell radius of 50-100 m, and the maximum speed of the vehicle was considered to be 30-200 km/h in order to examine the network architecture to minimize the delay.

Road pavement requires repetitive maintenance works to maintain satisfactory service level to the public. However, the repetitive maintenance works upon deteriorated pavement structure make negative effects to deterioration speed. It often leads to inefficient use of limited budget. For that reason, the pavements require reconstruction work to recover their original performance. Recently, construction demands in the Korean national highway have already been reached to maximum level, and the aged pavements start to demand much more reconstruction works. However, in the real world, road agencies have often been confused when they determine maintenance design for such aged road sections due to budget constraint. It is because there is no reliable long-term maintenance strategy that supports their decision making. To support their decision making, this paper aimed to suggest the best maintenance strategy considering changing process of pavement performance by repetitive maintenance works. As an analysis method, probability distribution and hazard function to estimate the life expectancy were adopted, and then the results were used for long-term life cycle cost analysis with deterministic or Monte-Carlo method under various scenarios. As an empirical study, the Korean national highway data that has long-maintenance history data since 1986 has been applied. Last, this paper considered quality assurance of maintenance work to improve maintenance quality. These could be important information as a part of long-term maintenance strategy of pavement.
Interest in freeway truck traffic has increased largely due to greater safety concerns regarding truck-related crashes. The negative interactions between slow-moving trucks and other vehicles are a primary cause of hazardous conditions, which lead to crashes with larger speed variations. To improve operational efficiency and safety, providing a climbing lane that separates slow-moving trucks from higher performance vehicles is frequently considered when upgrading geometrics. This study developed an operations strategy for freeway climbing lanes based on traffic conditions in real time. To consider traffic safety when designing a dynamic strategy to determine whether a climbing lane is closed or open, various factors, including the level of service (LOS) and the percentage of trucks, are investigated through microscopic simulations. A microscopic traffic simulator, VISSIM, was used to simulate freeway traffic streams and collect vehicle-maneuvering data. Additionally, an external application program interface, VISSIM's COM-interface, was used to implement the proposed climbing lane operations strategies. Surrogate safety measures (SSM), including the frequency of rear-end conflicts and, were used to quantitatively evaluate the traffic safety using an analysis of individual vehicle trajectories obtained from VISSIM simulations with various operations scenarios. It is expected that the proposed algorithm can be the backbone for operating the climbing lane in real time for safer traffic management.
The purpose of this study is to investigate how the degree of distribution influences the calibration of snow and runoff in distributed hydrological models using a multi-criteria calibration method. The Hydrology Laboratory-Research Distributed Hydrologic Model (HL-RDHM) developed by NOAA-National Weather Service (NWS) is employed to estimate optimized parameter sets. We have 3 scenarios depended on the model complexity for estimating best parameter sets: Lumped, Semi-Distributed, and Fully-Distributed. For the case study, the Durango River Basin, Colorado is selected as a study basin to consider both snow and water balance components. This study basin is in the mountainous western U.S. area and consists of 108 Hydrologic Rainfall Analysis Project (HRAP) grid cells. 5 and 13 parameters of snow and water balance models are calibrated with the Multi-Objective Shuffled Complex Evolution Metropolis (MOSCEM) algorithm. Model calibration and validation are conducted on 4km HRAP grids with 5 years (2001-2005) meteorological data and observations. Through case study, we show that snow and streamflow simulations are improved with multiple criteria calibrations without considering model complexity. In particular, we confirm that semi- and fully distributed models are better performances than those of lumped model. In case of lumped model, the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) values improve by 35% on snow average and 42% on runoff from a priori parameter set through multi-criteria calibrations. On the other hand, the RMSE values are improved by 40% and 43% for snow and runoff on semi- and fully-distributed models.
In the Republic of Korea, the LTE-based public safety (PS-LTE) network is being built for the 700 MHz frequency band. However, the same bands are also assigned to the LTE-based high-speed railway (LTE-R) network. Therefore, it is essential to utilize the co-channel interference management schemes for the coexistence of two LTE networks in order to increase the system throughput and to reduce the user outage probability. In this paper, we focus on the downlink (DL) system for the coexistence of PS-LTE and LTE-R networks by considering non radio access network (RAN) sharing and LTE-R RAN sharing by PS-LTE users (UEs) to analyze the UE throughput. Moreover, we also utilize the cooperative communications schemes, such as coordinated multipoint (CoMP) for the coexistence of PS-LTE and LTE-R networks in order to reduce the UE outage probability. We categorize the coexistence of PS-LTE and LTE-R networks into four different scenarios, and evaluate the performance of each scenario by the important performance indexes, such as UE average throughput and UE outage probability.
The rapid changes of financial environment have increased the need and demand for personal financial advisory service from financial experts. In particular, as the individual customers want to get more customized financial services, the financial institutions created the private banking (PB) sector and have constantly expanded their PB services. However, it remains still problematic that the private banking system requires high costs so that the number of eligible customers who can have proper PB services is quite limited. To solve this problem, we propose an intelligent agent that can provides specialized and customized personal financial advisory services to the customers with low costs. The proposed agent systemizes and structures the information and knowledge of financial experts in private banking services so that individual customers can easily access to high-quality PB services when they need. On the first attempt we develop a framework of U-smart PB, an intelligent agent for personal financial management based on different scenarios related to personal financial decisions, and derive its core services. This system not only provides information simply, but also proposes to support personal investment decisions technically as an intelligent agent that embodies real-time customized financial management in a ubiquitous environment, regardless of time and place.

In this paper, we propose Low Energy Service Discovery (LESD) protocol for common discovery mode of IEEE 802.15.8 Peer Aware Communications (PAC). In order to minimize power consumption, Basic Repetition Block (BRB) is defined. Device is able to select operating mode and synchronize other devices through it. Proposed MAC procedure is Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) based on overhearing technique. Even if device has not been received response signal since transmitted request signal, it is able to discover other devices of same group through the overhearing technique. IEEE 802.15.8 PAC has required that performances of common discovery mode are presented about discovered devices during the simulation time, discovery latency and average power consumption. By considering the number of devices per group and channel environment, two scenarios are evaluated through system level simulation and the simulation results of proposed scheme are compared with CSMA/CA in same simulation conditions. As a result, proposed scheme is able to get high energy efficiency of devices as well as increase the number of discovered devices during simulation time when the longer the number of devices is distributed over a limited area.

The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to intelligent technologies and services that connect all things to the internet so they can interactively communicate with people, other things, and other systems. The development of the IoT environment accompanies advances in network protocols applicable to more lightweight and intelligent sensors, and lightweight and diverse environments. The development of those elemental technologies is promoting the rapid progress in smart car environments that provide safety features and user convenience. These developments in smart car services will bring a positive effect, but can also lead to a catastrophe for a person's life if security issues with the services are not resolved. Although smart cars have various features with different types of communications functions to control the vehicles under the existing platforms, insecure features and functions may bring various security threats, such as bypassing authentication, malfunctions through illegitimate control of the vehicle via data forgery, and leaking of private information. In this paper, we look at types of smart car services in the IoT, deriving the security threats from smart car services based on various scenarios, suggesting countermeasures against them, and we finally propose a safe smart car application plan.

This research focuses on the warrants for the Two-Way Left-Turn Lanes (TWLTL). Using a microscopic traffic simulation tool, two key parameters were investigated herewith. One is a wide range of the Design Hourly Volume (DHV), reflective of recent Korean roadway volume characteristics, that is conventionally reduced from the Average Daily Traffic (ADT). The other is driveway spacing, the length of the middle-lane section where two conflicting left-turn demands often compete for space. In addition, unlike previous researches, the way and the procedure the TWLTL operation is realized in the VISSIM S/W with its add-on application such as VISVAP is clearly stated and described in detail. According to the result of simulations for 10 volume scenarios, as expected, the higher the volume level is, the more delay the left-tuner experience. The Level Of Service (LOS) for most cases was in the range of C and D based on the non-signalized intersection LOS criteria. Furthermore, the TWLTL was found operable up to the volume level of 1,116 and 1,860 vph in heavy direction (equivalent of volume level 7) for 3-lane and 5-lane facility respectively, which covers significant portion of existing two to four-lane highway volumes in Korea.

This study aims to assess offshore wind energy resources around Jeju Island using the InVEST Offshore Wind model. First the wind power density around the coast of Jeju was calculated using reanalysis data from the Korean Local Analysis and Prediction System (KLAPS). Next, the net present value (NPV) for the 168MW offshore wind farm scenario was evaluated taking into consideration factors like costs (turbine development, submarine cable installation, maintenance), turbine operation efficiency, and a 20year operation period. It was determined that there are high wind resources along both the western and eastern coasts of Jeju Island, with high wind power densities of $400W/m^2$ calculated. To visually evaluate the NPV around Jeju Island, a classification of five grades was employed, and results showed that the western sea area has a high NPV, with wind power resources over $400W/m^2$. The InVEST Offshore Wind model can quickly provide optimal spatial information for various wind farm scenarios. The InVEST model can be used in combination with results of marine ecosystem service evaluation to design an efficient marine spatial plan around Jeju Island.
