  • Emotion is very important feature in educational situation. Because it has high influence to memory, educational achievement, motivation. This study tried to find out possibility of serious game as emotional engagement tool in educational situation. We did our pilot experiment to elementary school students who are english as second language. In this L2 learning situation, we did our basic experiment with English language learning serious game called 'Word Collectrian". Word Collectrian has some features for emotional engagement. It has interaction for dynamic word visualization, providing context video for word usage, putting visualized word on learner's virtual home. According to experimental result, word Collectrian has possibility for educational achievement and emotional engagement effect.

  • The present study investigated the validity of a serious game named 'Draw Ttoring' developed for accessment of children's attention and tried to provide the basic information about it. To this goal, we tested it to 284 elementary school students in measuring various behavior data(reaction time, total playing time, correct rate, discrepancy between type of TMT). Futhermore, the behavior data was compared with academic achievement to see the external validity. In results, 'Draw Ttoring' showed various behavior data and correlation with academic achievement. In Type A of TMT, total time and reaction time had a correlation with academic achievement, while, in Type B of TMT, total time and correct rate did. Mental flexibility calculated by the discrepancy between Type A and Type B showed also the positive correlation with academic achievement. These results showed that the serious game named 'Draw Ttoring' can provide more various information about children attention and these can't be observed by traditional paper pencil test. Finally, serious game can provide an good alternative method to access children's cognition.

  • This paper proposes a serious game for rehabilitation training targeting old persons and patients for rehabilitation. The serious game suggested for rehabilitation training provides the whole body movement recognition-based interface using the 3D depth camera. When the user stands before the camera, it distinguishes the user from the background and then recognizes the user's whole body with 15 joints. By analyzing the changes of location and direction of each joint, it recognizes gestures needed for the game. The game contents consist of the games for upper limb training, lower limb training, whole body training, and balance training, and it was realized in both 2D and 3D games. The system suggested in this article works robustly even with the environmental changes using the 3D depth camera. Even with no separate device, the game recognizes the gestures only using the whole body movement, and this enhances the effect of rehabilitation.

  • We have developed a serious game for the elderly named 'Paldokangsan3' as a next version of 'Paldokangsan2' which was a walking game with memorization in shopping streets using controllers of hand buttons and foot boards with PC developed in 2012. The interface of had buttons and food boards were changed into the interface of motion capture with the aid of Kinect. The expected effects are improvement of memorization, improvement of concentration ability to find out items in the vision, improvement of vitality through physical walking actions, as well as improvement of mental health through entertainment activities of game play. We have tested 25 volunteers of more than 65 years old in Cheonan city community center for the elderly for 2 weeks. We got the result that the game play was showing positive effectiveness on memorization, physical exercise and self-esteem in mental health area of the elderly.

  • In the middle of global circumstance, having superior workmanship becomes very important factor to be competitive company. Especially, manufacturing development transferred to industry of knowledge service in these days, having superior workmanship is very important factor to determine company's success or failure. Because of this reason, company invests lots of money in recruiting and manages employees in the aspect of total period, such as workmanship training, management and assessment. This study research about development of 'Recruiting Serious Games' and suggests game that makes company conduct recruiting mission for some period and gives practical interview and chance of work through quantitative and qualitative assessment.

  • Recently, the number of children who are required to take special care are increasing because of the fast-changing society and the environment factor. Among them, most children in poor family are leading to Children with borderline intelligence, so urgent action are needed to prevent this situation. This study is conducted to establish the reason why children with borderline intelligence are taking place. In addition, this study embodies serious game as a solution which is able to prevent and cure this children with borderline intelligence problem. This game was made to improve weak memory, concentration and judgment of children with borderline intelligence and was verified in effectiveness by thirty people and experts.

  • Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Discrete Event Simulation (DES) are tools widely used in the context of the construction industry. While BIM is used to represent the physical and functional characteristics of a facility, DES models are used to represent its construction process. Integrating both is beneficial to those interested in the field of construction management since it has many potential applications. Game engines provide a human navigable 3D virtual environment in which the integrated BIM and DES models can be visualised and interacted with. This paper reports the experience obtained while developing a simulator prototype which integrates a BIM and a DES model of a single construction activity within a commercial game engine. The simulator prototype allows the user to visualise how the duration of the construction activity is affected by different input parameters interactively. It provides an environment to conduct DES studies using the user's own BIM models. This approach could increase the use of DES technologies in the context of construction management and engineering outside the research community. The presented work is the first step towards the development of a serious game for construction management education and was carried out to determine the suitable IT tools for its development.

  • In this study I divided the development history of educational serious games into three periods. from 1995 to 2020 in Korea. I drew out some characteristics of each period. And I analyzed the correlation between the level of technology and learning effects or fun. so I found out some results. According to my analysis, the level of technology and learning effects and fun are not related to successful factors. While play style which is familiar and accessible to students like casual game has been commercially successful. It also confirmed that well-balanced games between fun and learning effects are a key factor in commercial success.

  • In recent times, a trend has emerged which rejects negative elements such as violence and gambling associated with games, and emphasizes positive functions such as academic study, which is a desirable phenomenon. Serious games have great potential and unlimited boundaries in their scope, and need much study and research from various perspectives. Especially today, in enhancing the national image of Korea with "Korean games" for the next generation, creative storytelling is urgently required. In this study, I aim to investigate the functions and roles of serious games and to foresee their future direction of development. I also examine the essential elements of storytelling in games suitable for the next generation.

  • The purpose of this article is to analyze the needs of middle and elder generation about serious game for the elderly. The results of this study are; (1) elder generation prefers leisure activities such as mountain climbing, yoga, golf, walking and travel, etc., for health, interest, the development for oneself and relieving stress; (2) they don't prefer game activity for leisure, but prefer to use serious game for health, simulation, medical treatment and sports than middle generation; (3) elder generation has various characteristics and needs so that we should consider their demographical variables when we research and develop serious game contents for the elderly.
