Two non-conventional HVDC converter arrangements are compared. These include the Capacitor Commutated Converter (CCC) in which series capacitors are included between the converter transformer and the valves, and the Controller Series Capacitor Converter (CSCC), based on more conventional topology, in which series capacitors are inserted between the AC filter bus and the AC network. Results show that both options have comparable steady state and transient performance. Danger of ferroresonance with the CSCC option is eliminated by controlling the amount of series compensation. The dynamic performance simulations is peformed by PSCAD/EMTDC
LCL filters are widely used in high-order harmonics attenuation of output currents in grid-connected inverters. However, output currents of grid-connected inverters with LCL filters can become unstable because of the resonance of the filters. Given that the characteristics of output currents in inverters mostly depend on filter performance, the exact analysis of filters by considering parasitic components is necessary for both harmonics attenuation and current control. LCL filters have three or four parasitic components: the series and/or parallel resistance of the filter capacitor and the series resistance of the two filter inductors. Most studies on LCL filters have focused on the parasitic components of the filter capacitor. Although several studies have addressed the parasitic components of the filter inductor at the inverter side, no study has yet investigated the concurrent effects of series resistance in both filter inductors in detail. This paper analyzes LCL filters by considering series resistance in both filter inductors; it proposes an active damping method based on the virtual series resistance of LCL filters. The performance of the proposed active damping is then verified through both simulation and experiment using Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulator(HILS).
The small signal model for input series-output parallel connected converter system employing charge control together with input capacitor voltage feedback loop is developed. From the model developed, the effect of input capacitor voltage feedback loop to the system stability and outer loop compensator design is analyzed. Theoretical results and simulation show that input capacitor voltage feedback loop has no critical effects on the system stability, so the system can be reduced to a equivalent single module for the stability analysis and outer loop compensator design.
Subsynchronous resonance(SSR) causes a torsional shaft torque on the generator. Damages resulting from the uncontrolled SSR have resulted in the breakdown in the shaft and costs for replacement power. This paper is to determine the feasibility of controlling SSR by the fast modulation of series compensation capacitors. The presence of subsynchronous currents in the system was detected by a subsynchronous relay which was modeled by the transient analysis of control systems(TACS) in electromagnetic transients program (EMTP). The capacitor segments were switched by bi-directional thyristor switches. These were modeled into EMTP. The strategy to switch the capacitors were modeled as a closed loop system. The paper proves that effective control of SSR can be obtained only by the detuning of the system and the removal or blocking of subsynchronous energy from the system. (author). refs., figs., tabs.
This paper presents an interleaved resonant converter to reduce the voltage stress of power MOSFETs and achieve high circuit efficiency. Two half-bridge converters are connected in series at high voltage side to limit MOSFETs at $V_{in}/2$ voltage stress. Flying capacitor is used between two series half-bridge converters to balance two input capacitor voltages in each switching cycle. Variable switching frequency scheme is used to control the output voltage. The resonant circuit is operated at the inductive load. Thus, the input current of the resonant circuit is lagging to the fundamental input voltage. Power MOSFETs can be turn on under zero voltage switching. Two resonant circuits are connected in parallel to reduce the current stress of transformer windings and rectifier diodes at low voltage side. Interleaved pulse-width modulation is adopted to decrease the output ripple current. Finally, experiments are presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed converter.

The depletion of natural resources and renewable energy sources, such as photovoltaic (PV) energy, has been highlighted for global energy solution. The PV power control unit in the PV power-generation technology requires a high step-up DC-DC converter. The conventional step-up DC-DC converter has low efficiency and limited step-up ratio. To overcome these problems, a novel high step-up DC-DC converter using an isolated switched capacitor cell is proposed. The step-up converter uses the proposed transformer and employs the switched-capacitor cell to enable integration with the boost inductor. The output of the boost converter and isolated switched-capacitor cell are connected in series to obtain high step-up with low turn-on ratio. A hardware prototype with 30 V to 40 V input voltage and 340 V output voltage is implemented to verify the performance of the proposed converter. As an extended version, another novel high step-up isolated switched-capacitor single-ended DC-DC converter integrated with a tapped-inductor (TI) boost converter is proposed. The TI boost converter and isolated-switched-capacitor outputs are connected in series to achieve high step-up. All magnetic components are integrated in a single magnetic core to lower costs. A prototype hardware with 20 V to 40 V input voltage, 340 V output voltage, and 100 W output power is implemented to verify the performance of the proposed converter.
TSCS 제어기는 고속 부동 소수 연산이 가능한 DSP(Digital Signal Processor) 플랫폼과 실시간 RTOS(Real Time Operating System)로 구성되어 있다.
This paper presents the power supply system which is made of three units: the capacitor charging and main pulse unit, simmer power supply unit, and series trigger unit. The capacitor charging and main pulse unit charges the capacitor bank by using the series parallel resonant converter and the generated main pulses apply to the lamp. The series trigger unit ionize the xenon gas located in the lamp and the simmer power supply unit sustains the ionized condition. It means that the lamp lifetime and efficiency are advanced by reducing the number of triggering. Not only the operation of the proposed system but also the performance of each unit will be verified by the experimental results.
